    i heart my nuvaring!

i'm pretty fond of anything that keeps me from Not Having Babies, and regulating my period (more or less) to boot, but i must say, i'm ever so glad this little thing was invented. the only thing i love more is probably the friendly nurse at the community health center who gave it to me.

i'm lucky to be one of those girls who isn't adversely affected by birth control in any way so this was an easy transition (from the pill, which i was not remembering to take). the ring is about the size of a skinny hairband, but clear plastic. It is stiffer, but still flexible and you stick it up (super easy to insert) around your cervix. its not really the "cervix ring" i thought it was going to be, as that thing isnt very large, it more rests, with the top part around it, at the back of your girly channel. you can't feel it, obviously, and you leave it in for three weeks and then take it out to bleed (though, im sure if you want to mess with hormones, could replace it then with a new one and skip that whole period thing, like it is possible with the pills. heh).
i was also lucky enough to "try out" the ring in a sexual manner, and my partner said he could feel it, but only slightly, and only because i had instructed him to see if he could. this seems odd, since the ring is very much 'there', but i guess that makes sense considering the walls of the vagina are pretty soft and it probably just sinks back. you can take it out up to three hours at a time anyway, if it was in the way, say, if you liked a lot of digital stimulation.

i've only had it for a few weeks, but unless something truly bizarre happens, i'm never going back to pills again! the hormones are much lighter, you only have to remember to change it once a month (i'm using the stickers that come with the package on my calender to remind me, heh), and i've already regained the hormone-induced size effect that make the 'ladies' a little fuller and perkier

i've been telling all my girl friends about it (they have been a bit curious) and i'm really shocked at their reactions! they say "oh its so big! i can't imagine how you use that" "how on earth do you get that up there?" "III don't even know where my cervix is", even a little bit of disgust! honestly! you think these girls had never used tampons, or had sex, or ever had their fingers within ten feet of their cookies. come on, the vagina is only like....four inches long normally.....not all that much area to explore. really, it was a bit sad to see how...well...repressed they are. perhaps they are just not experiencing pleasure right all together. how sad. the guys i talked to about it seemed to be much more comfortable with the ring idea, they were much more familiar with their girlfriends' anatomy than the girls themselves! weird.

anyway, hah, i sound like an advertisement. but practical birth control is something most of us are always looking for, right?

I used the nuvaring for a couple of months last year. The only problem I had with it is that my partner could kind of feel it during sex and in some positions. When you do take it out at the end of the month, for me anyways, it took a couple of days to get my period, so during that time my ObGyn suggested using another form like condoms. Personally the nuvaring gave me not so great effects but hey not every type of hormonal contraceptive works for everyone, but that's why you at least try them out.

I may have many faults, but being wrong ain't one of them.

I've been using the Nuvoring for a year now and love it. I went to it because I suffer from migraines and there was a connection with my period. My OB/GYN recomended it because of the low dose of hormones and because you can really leave it in for four weeks and then insert a new one skipping your period. That's what I do. I only have four periods a year and the frequency of my migrianes have reduced. As for feeling it, my partner said the only time he feels it is during digital play. This Nuvoring has been a godsend for me!

    !*!HATED THE NUVARING!*!

I liked the whole premise of the nuvaring but what I didn't like was the fact that my partner could feel it. It even got stuck around his penis and then while we were having sex, and it was cought on him, it scraped me up. OW! So then everytime we wanted to have sex, I had to take it out....um....not sexy. Now I'm on Mirena. It is a uterine implant (progesterone based) that lasts for 5 years. I can't lose it, break it or forget it. It is as effective a pills and the ring. And I have NO PERIOD.

If the ring works for you awesome! But it hurt me and was just weird.

If everything you try is a sure thing, you aren't taking enough risks. If you never fail, you put a limit on the degree to which you can succeed. In short, the only way to win big is to risk losing

HAHAHA Heaven that's sooo funny. BTW they call those bracelets "sex bracelets" in high school... how ironic.

I've been on it a couple of years now and love it, too. Next best thing to a vasectomy for the man.

It's cool that the NuvaRing is working for you. It's a very "elegant" delivery concept for low dose hormone contraception. In my experience though, most women do not like the product. Also, a few of my female colleagues tried it themselves when the pharmaceutical reps came by and had some bad experiences. I would say that Ortho-Evra (birth control patch) has been much more of a "hit" with women.
