Default Help: Can anyone describe the type of movements that you do when dancing?

Okay. I'm new here, so first off... Hello all!

    Now, for the actual post...

I haven't had any experience in exotic dancing/stripping at all, but I have recently decided that I would like to break into the field by auditioning at a full nude BYOB/juice bar place. I'm happy with my body. I'm happy with my newly aquired (and inexpensive) costumes/shoes. The only thing that I'm not confident in is my ability to dance.

I have been reading many, many threads on this forum. I know several videos have been recommended by people, but they are too expensive for me to purchase at this point. My money supply is running low. (Don't worry... I'm not thinking of dancing only for the money. I think it would be something exciting and fun for me.)

Before I am able to get myself up on stage I want to be confident in my abilities. So, I would love to practice some moves at home. I was just wondering if anyone would be able to describe some of the actions and movements that they do on stage.

I have noticed many people have pretty much said to just get up on stage and see what happens, but I really have no place to start. I can make very sexy facial expressions and do things like turn my head in sexy way, but how do I make the rest of my movements sexy? I feel like I would run out of things to do.

My goal is not to have a routine when I get up on stage, but having some practice in moving will give me much greater confidence. Thank you all for any tips or movements you or others do that you might be able to describe for either stage work or lap dances... You know... just as long as it isn't tell me to smack myself on the ass in front of a customer...

if you can't afford the video's try to see if your local library has anything on the subject... i was able to borrow the "s-factor" book from my library... they don't have any specific videos on exotic dancing, but maybe something like belly dancing might be helpful... but deffinately look for the "s-factor" that book has tons of information... hope this helps you out some...

Never lose sight of why guys go into a strip venue - they go to see you naked.

They also go in with certain preconceptions - that you are an exhibisionist getting a kick out of what you do, that they might just be able to get your phone number, etc. [You should be able to get lots more on this from the varying threads in the forum.]

You'll be judged less by dance style than by whether you have a nice figure, and whether you meet their pre-conceptions.

The simplest thing you can do when you start is to make losts of eye contact. Eye contact of 6 - 10 seconds is normally a flirtation signal - the inevitable effect of a dancer making this length of eye contact with a custy is him thinking; "wow - she fancies me". If a custy thinks you fancy him, (true or false), dance style comes second to the gonads going into overdrive - just watch the male ego inflate.

As the saying goes - "if you've got it - flaunt it". Don't worry so much about dance style - it's the flaunting that counts.

    Agreed about the "S-Factor".

Read it, learn it, do it.

    Some basic ideas for you....

    - Take your time. Move to the rhythm but don't go crazy gyrate all over the place. Find your own pace, but in don't be affraid to take it slow. Dancing on stage is not like dancing with your friends at a night club. Taking your time goes for undressing as well. Tease your audience. Firgure out how long the club will give you for your stage set during the am night contest, and stay dressed for the first quarter of the set. A song in a SC averages about 3 min. If they only give you one song to dance to, then don't start undressing until at least 30-40 seconds into the song. You'll still have plenty of time to show off to the audience.

    - As Phil mentioned above, eye contact can be a very powerful tool. If you can make some good eye contact it will certainly be a plus. So try to make as much eye contact as you can, it wil help you to make a connection with your audience. However, don't get too discouraged if you find some of the guys don't make eye contact with you. Sometimes you'll find they'll just want to stare at other points of interest.

    - In addition to eye contact, a great smile is another thing to keep in mind. If you're the type who smiles all the time, cool. If not, a flirtatious smile every now then can be another way to connect with the audience.

    - Transitions. Any moves you come up with or try to incorporate whether it's standing, using a wall, using a pole, doing floor work, keep your transitions in mind. Try to practice moving smoothly into and out of moves and on to your next move. Don't make it look like you are just running down a check list and doing one move after another. Be sure to practice at home, in front of a mirror and/or in front someone who can give your a solid critique. Be comfortable with your routine.

    - Know your body. Which parts of yourself do you want to accentuate the most? Do you want to show off your chest, your booty, your legs, etc? For example, if you have nice hips, concentrate on them and keep them in mind as you move; sway them when you can. Choose the type of moves that play to your strengths

    --------------------------------

OK now for some actual moves I've seen. I'll try to keep fairly basic, and if any of the dancers wish to add or correct me, feel free.....

    - Walk sexy. Practice moving around in your dancer shoes. Think hips, think slow sultry movements. Learn to cross your feet infront of each other as you walk. It will help to accentuate the movement of your hips. As you walk, don't look at your feet, and have something to do with your hands. Run your hands through your hair, hug yourself, or slowly rub yourself. Flirt with the audience.

    - Bend at the hip. If there is wall, rail or pole, you can lean against it and bend at the hips, keeping your legs strait and a little arch in youe back. You can make slow circles with your hips, or you can do a little back and forth shake. If you bend over to the crowd you can look back and do a little peek-a-boo and try to catch the eye of an audience member staring at you. Feel free to *wink* to playfully let him know you caught him staring. heh.

    - Cat crawl. If you can make a transition on to the floor and lay flat on your stomach you can raise your hips up and arch your back while keeping your head down. Kind of like a cat in heat. You can raise and lower you butt by bringing your knees together and sliding them apart. (If you move your legs in and out, be sure to support most of your weight on your upper body which is lying flat on the ground so as not to burn your knees or legs.) In fact if you have a piece of clothing you can remove and put under your knees it will help reduce friction. You can use the cloth under your knees to crawl accross the floor with too, and help protect your knees.

    - Kneeling. From a cat crawl it's fairly easy transition to a kneeling position, and vice versa. You can kneel over your legs with them together, or you can have your knees separated. Sit up strait and keep a slight arch in your back as you sit in a kneeling position. You can do a little seated bounce while kneeling, or agan you can raise or lower yourself a little bit by bringing your legs together or sliding them apart. (Again while moveing your legs together or apart, you may want to place your hands on the ground to support some of your weight so as not to burn your knees.)

    - Bicyle circles. Some popular floor moves involve doing leg work while lying on your back. One of the more common are bicyle circles. While lying on the floor just raise your legs up one at a time in slow circular movements mimicing riding a bicyle.

    - Floor Booty Shake. If your on your back on the floor you can raise your legs up strait. You can even put your hands under your lower back to help raise your but off the floor. From here you can spread your legs a little to make a "V" shape. If you rappidly twist your heels and ankles back and forth you can try to do a little booty shake. (Keep you bum loose, don't flex.) The "V" is also a good position to lift your head up and again play a little peak-a-boo between your legs with an audience member.

    - Ankle circles. While sitting on the floor in a crunch position. You can sit up a little by supporting you upper body with your elbows. With your legs together and your knees bent bring your knees to your chest. Now with your legs crossed at the ankle you can do big or little circles with your feet. (Again take it slowly) Feel free to lean you knees from side to side and look out from behind your legs.

Verf, just a suggestion, but you may want to increase your red meat intake. Next thing you'll be posting labanotation of a cat crawl.

Put on some music, close the curtains, set up a mirror, drink some wine and start dancing.
It'll take practice- no way around that.

    Oh. My. God.

Thank you all for the help you have given me... Tonight was my audition. I was so so so nervous, but I kinda knew one of the girls there and she even let me borrow her clothes. I wasn't sure on my stage name even when I got there, so the girls and the dj decided I was very... mysterious... and called me Mystery. I think it fit for tonight, and actually for most of the time... people tell me I'm mysterious often.

Anyway... I did fine in the audition... even though my legs were shaking. I almost slipped, but I was still holding on to the pole, so it wasn't disasterous. I eevn made gas money to get back home from the very nice gentlemen trying to make my first ever dance a good experience... and I'm sure they were hoping for a good experience too. *wink wink*

But... I really just wanted to thank everyone that replied to me and just the entire website. I don't know what I would have done without this resource... prolly wouldn't have gotten the courage to get on stage...
