Angry Permanent hair straightening- for white girls?

Hey guys- Question! I have very frizzy hair due to too much dying and lots of straightening. every time i go to work, i have to straighten it again. the problem just keeps getting worse. it's at the point where my self esteem has dropped because even if i spend 30 minutes straightening it, it's still wild and unruly. i look at other girls who have beautiful naturally straight unFRIZZY hair, and i am overcome with jealousy and sadness! lol NOT exaggerating, unfortunately. so, here is my question. I know black girls get their hair straightened permanently. is anything like that offered for white girls? i mean is there an option at a salon where i can get my hair permanently done for a little while so that i don't have the fight world war 2 with my hair EVERY morning?!

sounds like you have damaged hair sweetie....all the chemicals from coloring and all the heat is frying your hair...why damage it further with a chemical straightener?...which is a lot more damaging than color...i've seen many black women with receding hair lines and permanent hair loss because of heat and relaxer damage...which is why i stopped getting my hair fried around 10 years ago...

what you need is a really good hair care routine that includes deep conditioning treatments and regular hair cuts until you are rid of the damaged hair...i use Fantasia hair care products (from a beauty supply store) and natural oils on my hair...but my hair is very thick...naturally nappy...don't know what brands work on naturally straight or wavy hair...

a hot oil treatment using olive oil could help...
why do some people still have to fight to get the same opportunities that are given to others?

    reclusiveness...is a good thing.

the greatest revenge in the world...is success.

Have you reseached the japanese thermal straigtening? I don't know all the details, except it's expensive and it works.

Also, what kind of flat iron are you using?

yeah I dont know the details but there is the Yuko (sp?) system which is supposed to make your hair in better condition than before whilst permanently straightening it.

I had the ionic done about a year ago and paid about 1k for it.

It worked, and was pretty cool aside from damaging your hair a bit at first. But it wont curl, wave.. it just hands flat with NO BODY!

Now im getting to the point where i can actually curl my hair again and i would never use the straightening system again!

someone told me that you still have to blow out your hair if you get it straightened? what would be the point. i too REALLY want my hair chemically straightened. my hair is curly/wavy and it doesn't do anything. i too blow out and do a flat iron for work and if i go out. i know there are newer methods than when i was told it had to be blown out.

what is the ionic tp dancer? how bad was the damage? why wouldn't you do it again?

I heard about the ionic straightening before and I saw this at Sephora. I was tempted to buy it, but the ceramic one by CHI works well for me. (That's why I asked what iron the OP was using...the metal plates made it look dry and yucky.)

    this is the iron...http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...tegoryId=C7246

I posted pictures of how my hair looks with ceramic versus metal flat iron.

Don't don't don't don't DON"T straighten it after you've already fried it from color! I did that two summers ago, I was super blonde and I used an at home straightening system (I know, I know, I made a BIG boo boo with that one!) But even though it was at home, it's pretty similar to what they use in the salons, and all it is is MORE chemical! After I'd done it my hair was SO incredibly weak I couldn't put a brush through it! ESPECIALLY when it was wet! I basically always wore my hair with gel in it and let it airy dry after I'd shower. Luckily it worked out for me, but I couldn't blow dry or use a flat iron for a couple months!!!! Also, if you're using a flat iron, make sure it's ceramic! Those won't fry your hair quite as much. And use something like Redkens Extreme line or Smooth Down line to get some moisture back in your hair>....
The extreme line is used to restore proteins into fried hair......BUT you can't use it EVERYDAY cuz it will actually fry your hair more in the long run.......use the Extreme Anti-Snap potion 3-4 times a week to get some strength back in your hair, then use the Smooth Down Shampoo and Conditioner.......Leave the conditioner in for like 5-10 minutes to really get a LOT of moisture in it, it's got special oils in it that moisturize really really well! Hope this helped, I just don't want to see someone else go throught the same disaster I did!

By the way, this pic is of me now. I use the smooth down line still, but I only use the conditioner, and I use it at the very end after I've shampooed and conditioned with herbal essences stuff and L'orel Vive stuff. I don't need quite as much moisture cuz I'm basically back to my natural color....thank GOD!
Oh and to get it so straight I use a special blow serum that I get from local salons, it's called Kiwi color reflector Blow serum. It's in a white bottle with lime green top and text. IT's AWESOME! It detangles basically, and keeps your hair from getting fried. After I put that stuff on, I put on a straightening serum, I live in the Chicago area, and Mario Tricocci salons are around here, I use the Mario Too Straightening serum, which works friggin wonders! On top of the other two I spray a little bit of Garnier Fructis Shake Effect liquid-gel super strong hold. all of the above helps keep my hair STRAIGHT. (AND it doesn't fry it magically enough) BUT I also wash my hair every other day, If I did this routine EVERY day I'd prolly use the smooth down stuff more often to keep it from drying out! Anyways, I blow dry first obviously, (after letting my hair air dry for 10-15 min) I just kind do it haphazardly, makes me look like I was in a hurricane. After it's most of the way dry I use my brush to straighten a lil with the blow dryer. Then I use a CERAMIC flat iron, which has settings that I can adjust to pick how high the heat is. I usually have it set on 6 or 7 (it goes up to 10) And voila, my hair turns out as straight as the pic below.....and it STAYS that way!

My cousin who has naturally kinky and curly hair did it and it looks OK but still a little frizzed. It is high maintenance though , when it starts to grow out hers looks ridiculous bc the bottom is straight and the 'roots' are curly.

    Hey Velvet,

The damage wasn't that bad, but i could tell. Nothing compared to the damage coloring your hair would do. I didnt need to use a blow drier on my hair after i got the ionic done, but i still touched it up with the chi iron(couple of minutes), and for special occasions my wet to dry krembs iron.

But 6 months after i got my hair done i missed the volume and it wouldnt hold curl. It just hung straight. If you always do your hair straight the ionic would be ideal for you though. I had to GROW MY HAIR OUT before it would start holding curl again!

oh, and i got it done a about a year and a half ago, not a year.

A White girlfriend of mine went to a Black beauty salon and had her hair straightened using the same products as most other Black clients use. Her hair is naturally super curly and she received a mild relaxer and her hair is straight (she has to retouch her roots). Cost was like $80. Since White people's hair is as different as hair amongst Black people, I don't know whether or not it would work for you. Maybe ask a pro-stylist?

Personally, I wouldn't recommend chemically straightening your hair. As one who did it for years, I can tell you it is a hassle keeping up with your new growth and WOE if you let chlorine touch your hair (swimming pools). I stopped relaxing almost a year ago and my "new" hair is SOOOO much healthier than my relaxed hair. Just MO.

EIGHT hours!? Dang, thats like that time I had to sit there for 10 hours to get those tiny little braids all done up in my hair. Thats a long time, heh. But if youre patient enough..

the reason it takes so long is because every single hair has to touch the plates, so you have to do teeny sections

10 hrs!!! i had that done on the beach when i went to Jamacia! It only took her maybe an hr, her hands worked really fast! Getting it out was a pain in the butt though, and i had curly curly curly puffball hair afterward.

Yea, the idea behind it is that the ionic reshapes your hair memory, strands by strands. Basically like breaking your "curly gene" and replacing it with their "straight gene" It takes some time. You have to keep your hair unwashed and straight for like 48 hrs (even did while sleeping) so your hair takes the new straight shape.

IT works WONDERS if you want to keep the staight hair, and its way better for your hair longterm then styling everyday. (way better) and cuts your styling time to less then a third of what it would take normally.

The damage is minimal, but i always obsess about stuff like that, so i could tell. Just a trim or so later on in the month would probally take care of the little damage it does. But make sure you are going to someone who does the ionic straightener a lot because some dont fully know what they are doing.

If i didnt like curly hair i would have stuck with the ionic..

Any more questions.. feel free to ask!

Dang, that is a long time! I have always hated that my hair is so flat (even though sometimes I flat iron it to smooth it out) and then I hear people with curly hair wanting straight hair so I guess no one is ever really happy.
