    Default Batman Begins...

    Hey, had to be me...

I'm seeing this tomorrow night at 11:59pm. There is one single film i have wanted to see more, and that will be out next year. But i'll make do with my second fave this year.

    It looks GREAT.

See i always HATED Tim Burton's interpretations. He admitted that he had never picked up an issue, and it SHOWED. The damned first one should not have been called Batman, it should have been called "The Joker." It's called "Batman" shouldn't Batman be IN the movie? Then to Batman Returns. Lets not mention Catwoman's here-not-there platforms that appear and vanish... And the Penguins quest to be "gasp" MAYOR! *cowers in fear*

    Then...

    The bat-nipples...

I don't even want to mention the bat-nipples.

Please don't make me talk about the bat-nipples.

Jim Carrey was cool, though they dressed him up in the old Riddler costume from 1966! Look the last thing i wanted to see was Jim Carrey's package! And Tommy Lee Jones acting like the Joker. You know the thing that pissed me off about that movie the most? Two face is my fave Bat-EvilDude. That flick had him flipping the coin and flipping the coin until he got the desired resuld. MY Two Face, the one from the comics, takes the result of a coin toss 100%. See, he's only 50% evil. That's what makes him a great Villan, his good side will start arguing with his twisted side sometimes, he's NUTS. He's evil as hell but sometimes you see the man he was, the man who was consumed by the split personality... They RUINED Two Face.

Then the next one. Gawd. All i have to see is Uma Thurman, a great actress, actually have to spill a line like "CURSES!" to just sink into my chair. Not to mention the hockey playing thugs. And we are supposed to take this movie seriously? And, oh god, Ahnuld. I could have seen him as Mr. Freeze, even though he is more of a thin Captain Picard type, but i could have seen Ahnuld... With a real script. Then there's Bane. Bane is a pretty much one trick pony, BUT the Batman writers won't allow him to be one. He broke Batman's back when he first appeared. But he has since grown to respect Batman. He is still an enemy, but he is all concerned about honor and respect. Did anyone see even a scrap of that in the last Batman flick?

My opinion is this, when you neuter Batman's villans you also neuter Batman. They need good parts, too. But Batman/Bruce most of all.

We are talking about the MOST human Superhero of all. He has no powers, yet he kicks SUPERMAN'S ass every time they fight. Superman can lift a 747 in modern continuity, a mountain if he really has emotional investment in it (since 1986 gone are the planet poving days, they scaled him back). But at the end of the day, we are talking about a regular guy that can kick SUPERMAN'S ass! And do it more than once!

I just want it to be Batman. The Batman. I want it to get it right.

ALL i ask for is a flick that takes Batman as seriously as Spiderman and Spiderman 2 took Peter Parker.

Cuz lemme tell you something about Batman, from someone who has read his books as second best (which is saying something, for me). Bruce Wayne doesn't really exist. The Billionaire playboy is the real secret identity. When Bruce Wayne's parents were axed in front of him the real Bruce Waybe died, and what was to become Batman was born. There is no Bruce Wayne, it's all an act. And from everything i hear about Batman Begins it NAILS that part.

I cannot wait. If you want i'll review it for you folk (and i'll even promise to keep the comic stuff to as minimum as i can under the circumstances).

I thought the first batman movie was great. Since there was only one villian, we got to learn alot about him and his character. We also got to learn alot about batman too. I mean, the whole thing is about dark people and upon which side of good or evil they land on.

The second batman - I shake my head. It was the beginnings of hollywood formula goons getting into the scene. You could see it.

We'll double the budget and that should double the ticket sales!

Instead of one bad guy - we'll have TWO bad guys. Now we have to share 120 minutes trying to understand what makes these two bad guys tick and ...

We'll double the action! And special effects!

In the end, I felt like I saw some mumbled words and heard a lot of explosions and screeching tires.

Pretty soon your just watching unknown people running around in costumes blowing things up. What makes these people tick?

    I was pretty disappointed.

The third batman - I was past disappointed and reaching right into being pissed off!!!

Life is a puzzle. Life is a mystery. Even our eyes can play games with us. Do you have any idea how much philosophy could have been put into the character of The Riddler? I mean, if you really do think to much - you WILL go nuts! All you have to do is listen to a freshman in PHIL 101 take it to the max to see the ridiculousness.

They really could have had the audience walking out of there with bent minds with a good screen writer (aka The Matrix - of which there are three philosophy books written already.)

But no - they focused on the "star power." Lets get a guy who can make goofy faces, name recognition, and has nerd like attributes into "that sixties suit." (I totally agree with Madcap on the UNIMAGINATIVE costume.)

It was obvious that Batman Forever was a complete "Hollywood Creation." You know - like Paris Hilton - no substance and all style.

And once again - it is pack in the badguys day for BM-III.

I agree - so much more could have been done with Two-Face and the meaning of luck in all our lives. There could have been so much more added regarding what influences our lives the most - luck? or our own devices? I myself have been tortured by this. Did I make all this money that I have made by my own sweat and cunning? Or did I simply win the universe's lottery unwittingly?

I really think that batman movies should be concentrated on ONE single character.

I have high hopes for Batman Begins. Hopefully, they will take Scarecrow all the way to what Scarecrow can be. From the trailers, and it's focus on fear, inner fear - it gives me hope again.

    Dea~

If you want to see the Batman Villans at their finest go pick yp Catyclysm: Prequel to No man's land, then get all of No man's land. It's all in trade paperbacks (I think six of them). This has got to have the best Harvey Dent/Two Face portrayal ever in 40 years. Harvey dent has to be the defense attourney and Two face has to prosecute the guy who used to be commisioner Gordon. You can actually find this story in your local bookstore in the graphic novel section. Oh, oh, oh, The Joker is like Satan. Lex Luther is even in it.

Also "Bruce Wayne: Fugative" to see what it might be like to have the line between Bruce Wayne and Batman shattered. This one's wicked. Nightwing (The original Robin graduated to full fledged Superhero slugs it out with Batman and fails to land a whisker, fucking cool)

I just HAVE to reccomend my favorite story of all time. It's called "A Superman for all seasons." This deals with a Superman early in his career terrified of fucking up at at the Superhero buisiness. Same guy that wrote Watchmen wrote that, Alan Moore. It defined Superman's character for 25 years since then. It's fucking wild.

I will definitely see "Batman Begins". However, I eagerly anticipate it's sequel, "Okay, Batman Is Still Doing It", which will be be followed by the conclusion of the series, "Batman Is Finished Now".

Soon to be a classic trilogy, you betcha.

I'm actually really looking forward to this movie. I, too, disliked the other Batman movies. I'm not a comic buff...but I hate when "Hollywood" takes a great thing and chops it up by putting famous people who cannot act into it. Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl...pffffffffft...Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy...ick...I would have expected them in a movie that would poke fun at the Batman movies...but to put them in the actual movie...just bad, bad, bad...not surprising it sunk at the box office.

Batman Begins really looks like it's more serious...and more along the lines of being true to the Batman that he's supposed to be.

Totally give a review of the movie, Mad...that would be "hot".

My GOD! That's Batman from the comic books. It's a horror movie for Criminals. Best thing is that there's no camp. Gotham looks like a real city, rather than some gothic cartoon. It's violent, but violent in ways that add something rather than just violent for the sake of being Violent. Batman is scary. He’s scarier than the Scarecrow. Sure, the Scarecrow has his fear toxin… and when you see his face after the toxin got a hold of you… it’s scary, horrific and terrifying… But man… When you’re a corrupt cop upside down looking at a 17 story drop, hanging by god knows what staring into the face of some lunatic in a Bat mask interrogating you with a voice forged out of fucking hell… I realized… It isn’t the chin or even the eyes that make Batman… it’s that hideous scary as fuck voice and that he holds your life on a press of a button – and to that criminal… you have utterly no idea what his ethos is… He’s not in a uniform, he can’t be bought and there’s something utterly unhinged about him. Something insane, methodically insane. This isn’t a jokey Batman… This Batman is all business.

Best comic book movie i have ever seen, and this includes the original Superman (And that is some high praise from me). I'm seriously thinking about seeing it again after i get out of work today...

(Warning: homoerotic glee and small spoiler ahead

I saw it last night. Wow, British beef fest! My sister and I were snickering happily at the homoeroticism. (When there was an offer between Liam Neeson and Christian Bale to rub a wound, I thought, Yes, please.)
Did anyone notice the special blue toxin flower is just a Jimsonweed with the flower colored blue instead of purple? My brother ate Jimsonweed and was telling me the doors and walls were bubbling out towards him...LOL..
Cool Manderley-from-"Rebecca" reference in the Wayne Mansion.....between that and Bale's Welshy good looks, I was squirming with delight.
On a serious note though, I read the Panic of Gotham as a reference to our post-9-11 social climate.

One thing i dug: Have you ever wondered why so many crazy people live in Gotham City? Batman Begins has created its own answer. The people of the Narrows, the most down-and-out and desperate of all Gotham's citizenry has suffered the affects of Scarecrow's fear drug, driving many of them completely off their nut. The purpose of the doping was to drive the citizens of Gotham into such a feared frenzy that they tear one another apart. When the dust clears from the Narrows, the city suddenly has a whole new crop of hopelessly insane inhabitants. The Narrows, where Arkham Asylum is located in the film, is completely lost to the toxin.

I also thought the idea of fear/rage crazed people induced to murder eachother referred back to "28 Days Later" (Cillian Murphy was in the film too, hello!)

I didn't think Katie Holmes was that bad in her role.....

Yeah, did anyone else think during the Liam Neeson vs. Batman swordfights, "Hey, you can take this dude Batman, he got cut in half in that Stars Wars movie!" LOL

LOL, it's taken right out of a Graphic Novel called "The Long Haloween." Similar results, too. Kills me how much of this film is right out of one Graphic Novel or other.

I saw the movie last week. Loved it! I always liked batman but always thought the movies cheesed it up too much. This one was definitely the best so far. And he had the beeeesssssstest TOYS in this one! WOW!!!

Only complaint: Katie Holmes. Ugh. Bad acting. SURELY they could've found someone better for this part. She needs to stay on Dawson's Creek

I am sure she's distracted by thoughts like "My friends tell me Tom, my boyfriend, is like - i dunno - like - my dad's age. But he's not - he's a couple years younger! Ah - what do they know!"

She really should've stuck with Chris Klein. Now, HE is a hottie.. A very clean cut, nice boy. She's going to get her wittle heart broken by Tom "Cruise To The Next One". Bah

My favorite move of this year! However, I'm a little hazy as to whether the reference to the "League of Shadows" was somehow a reference to the "Illuminati" of conspiracy theories? Or if the "economics as a weapon" line might have been a quick "zinger" line critique of neo-conservatives? I guess I'm trying to read too much into this. Anyway, as to Katie Holmes, it looks as though she will be absent from any sequel

Yup, blame that one on her bringing Tom Cruise to the premier and him stopping to promote War of the Worlds to journalists ON THE BEGINS RED CARPET. The suits at Warners were allegedly pretty hot about that number.

Batman Begins has just been released in the movies here but since I have a little baby I'll probably have to wait till it comes out on video before I can see it. But one movie I cant wait till it comes out is King Kong thats a highly anticipated film over here, it looks good the trailer was released the other day.

Very good movie. I really hope word of mouth gives it legs. Most movies these days seem to live for their first weekend and die. Most movies are horrible so that is a fate they deserve. Marketing gave them a good opening weekend but marketing can only do so much. This movie is worth seeing again and I plan to. I've heard a lot of my friends (most not Batfans) praise the movie and some already having gone to see it twice.

By the way, the Batmobile has got to go. Even in this movie, it shows how with chase helicopters today it is just an unworkable concept for Batman. Now if they brought out a hover-possible Batwing (something along the lines of http://www.moller.com/skycar/ ), that would make more sense. Helicopters get close and you just fire up the jet engines. Jets try to follow you and you lose them in hover mode. Add in stealth technology and a body design that when it goes across the Moon you see the Bat symbol and then it's perfect. Besides, rats crawl and bats fly.

As for the stupidity of Tom Cruise, I hope Hollywood turns out and pitches all other movies on "War of the Worlds" red carpet.

As for the any homoerotic aspects in "Batman Begins", I think that more speaks of the viewer than the movie.

I totally am NOT into comics which makes me the polar opposite of my boyfriend in that regard. We both liked the Batman move. At first I was a little lost but after a while I really got into it and liked it just fine.
