my shin splints have gone away, my knee doesn't bother me anymore, but my lower back does still bother me sometimes. I feel like I constantly need to stretch my back...like my vertabrate are compacted together or something.Originally Posted by BAILEE

I use those - they help alot! I get the clear gel kind, they come 2 pair in a pack for like $4-5. Superglue them in, like use alot of glue so the whole surface is glued down - they won't come out like that. I cut them to size, stick them in place, lift one side and squirt glue in all around, then do the other side. Less messy that way, instead of trying to put the glue on the whole surface before putting them in place.Originally Posted by BAILEE
thanks-I'll try that.

My feet are bad, bunions on the sides and I have several corns too. A lot of the problem with stripper shoes is that they are NOT leather, and therefore don't stretch and conform to our feet. We are basically wearing Payless shoes with higher heels, and the human foot was not made to wear plastic and vinyl on it.
If we could get leather platforms that are properly fitted to our feet we could cut our foot problems in half.
I need to start going to a podiatrist to fix my feet. LOL

That is so true, Tina, I used to wish out loud all the time that someone would start making really fine, nice leather shoes with good insoles like some of the nicer regular heels I own. I would pay a lot of money for a high-quality stripper shoe. Hmm. I wonder how hard that would be to get started.
Go to a cobbler, see what she or he can do for you. However, leather shoes with high quality insoles won't stop bunions, strained tendons, or other back and foot mutations. I'm not sure how it would effect corns though.

Some women are genetically pre-disposed to get bunions. The situation is definitely aggravated by wearing tall shoes. What a bunion is is the misalignment of the metatarsal bone on the big toe. That bulge looks like this in an x-ray
Surgery to correct a bunion is unfortunately not pleasant![]()
I'm usually barefoot and wear super thin flippies everyday, so the most damage stripper shoes has done to my feet over the years is on top from straps and strips that cut into my skin and left permanent marks.
My back is way screwed up. I crack my sternum ALOT and wake up to make the adjustment at night.
I also had the weak knee problem, but I stopped dancing and after six months my knees got better. I am starting again though, so I will be taking all the advice I can find!

After dancing for over 9 years now, my feet and toes especially are all tore up. I have already spoken with a podiatrist and she said they would have to shave the inside of my toe bones in order to straighten out some of the permanent damage that has been done. oouucchh! To say the least. I just try to keep mine painted and looking as nice as they possibly can. Thats about all I can do right now.

I would like to add my two cents on this topic. For all you lovely ladies that are having feet problems I would suggest that you see a chiropractor who specializes in extremities. Your feet have 26 separate bones in them and they all need to be in perfect alignment...by wearing the shoes you wear you are putting an enormous amount of stress on the joints in the feet...when one bone in your foot moves out of position the rest of them are soon to follow and that is how you end up with the bunions, corns etc....now if you have athletes foot that is something enitrely different and you need to consult your primary care doctor. When a chiropractor performs adjustments on your feet he is realigning the bones and ultimately taking the pressure off of the joints and allowing the feet to function better. You must find a competent chiropractor who specializes in extremities however.

I'm not totally in the same boat however a very similiar one thanks to the fact that I'm a "floor work" girl. Thanks to my knees, I refuse to work in clubs that are too stage focused these days. If I do have to work in one of those clubs, for whatever reason, I must use a rug or else I won't be able to walk around let alone dance on stage due to how painful my knees have become.... esp. my right knee.Originally Posted by Bridgette

I can't stress enough how much my vitamins help me. Take a good calcium (not the cheap plain crap) and a good glucosamine/joint combo. I can feel my knees getting drastically worse if I skip the vitamins for only a couple days.Originally Posted by Genevive
I love my seven and a half's heels. Urinating on ones own feet is something Ive heard of to take the pain away from a sea urchin sting when surfing. I don't have any bunions or anything but my back is paying the price FOR SURE.Originally Posted by GoldCoastGirl

I don't wear dancer shoes, only 3.5 inch heels. I get so many complements on my non-stripper shoes. Luv it.
will your calf muscles be shortened permanently, even if you never wear heels other than work, and you work out your calfs regularly?
also when i give dances i take my shoes off, so does that knid of balance out?
No, honey, it doesn't balance out. Think about it - if they are studying women wearing heels that are "normal" - that is 2-3 inches or so, they are not assuming that women are wearing those shoes 24/7. They assume that they wear them to work, maybe on a night out... pretty much the way we do.
Ballerinas are the most flexible women on the planet (well, second to contortionists) - but they are still very vulnerable to that kind of muscle/tendon injury because of the pointe, and tippy toe standing (and I'm reasonably sure NONE of them wear heels on their days off). As to the permanence of the injury, I would consult with a qualified medical professional.

I've broken a small bone in my right foot, doesn't work the same any more. That was from impact, switched to platforms shortly thereafter. WEAR PLATFORMS!

The bottoms of my feet are permanently hard and rough, even the razor and the sander at the salon only helps it for a day or so. Luckily no bunions. A 6" heel makes a world of difference than a 7.5" heel.
I would love to wear normal short heels if I wasn't so short w stubby legs.....![]()

I have a lot of problems with my arches for some reason. Maybe it's because I always wear flip-flops when I'm not working. Hmmmm......I love wearing boots when I work, for the ankle support.

I hear ya on this one- my toes were never as "weird" looking as they are now. After doing a few years worth of jazz and ballet, my feet don't look the same. I'm glad that I didn't have funky looking feet to begin with- I can't even imagine what they'd look like!Originally Posted by Nina
