Default How to be a traveling girl?

I have given it some thought and I have decided I am just not ready to quit dancing yet. I am thinking that I will go back to my old job (at the no-stage, no-pole, no class dive) and take evrybody's advice who suggestied I get out of the Chicago market. We are selling our house and lookng to move out of cook county anyway.

Traveling long distances woudl be hard on me because of my son and trying to accomodate my husband's schedule, but it coudl be done. Now I am wondering how to find booking clubs, whether some clubs use an agent and where to find an agent, . . . . oh, I don't know. Jsut wondering in general what it would be like and how to be successful as a traveling girl.

I would be more interested in traveling around Illlinois and maybe part of Iowa, indiana, or wisconsin. Close enough to make it home quickly if I had to.

    Any more ideas?

I can help you since I work exclusively as a road girl.

I started working bookings after working over a year in Houston and seeing my earnings drop and fluctuate along with the risk of club busts at any time. I just wasn't making consistent money working with tons of dancers and a decreasing customer base.

Through the old stripper website I found out about The Northern in Fargo. I contacted the club through their website, e-mailed a picture, and set a booking date about 7 weeks in advance. During that first booking I made about $1900, and only had to work with 9-12 girls per night in a high volume club. The money was easier for me to make compared to the highly competitve big city clubs so I rebooked for the next month, and through word of mouth found other clubs in the area that book and gradually I started just working on the road via bookings. The money is much more dependable.

Many Upper Midwest towns and some in Montana book different dancers each week in order to provide their customers with variety. They regulate the amount of girls who can work each week, so having a ton of dancers to compete with is not an issue. Many of these clubs pay a weekly base pay to a set amount of road girls. You usually work from 5 until 1 or 2 depending on the club Monday-Saturday and get paid $300-$450 per week depending on the club in cash on Saturday at closing. The Billings Montana clubs pay by check, no withholding, and most of these clubs send you a 1099 for the money they pay you in January.

No you don't need an agent. You just contact the clubs that book. They all have different lead times from 3-4 weeks to 2 months. I have a few clubs that I have booked out for the year, once every 4-5 weeks.

The girls that live 100 miles or less from the clubs usually drive home each night. These are usually ones with children. The others stay in a motel that has weekly rates. Most run from $200-$260 per week. I travel with a microwave and ice chest, and some rooms have a small refrigerator.

Some girls book for a week, and go home on Saturday night, then on Monday morning head out to the next booking, maybe booking 2 -3 weeks in a row, and going home for a week or two. A booking that is 300-350 miles is driveable in 4.5-5.5 hours on Monday. If I have a longer drive such as going from Billings to eastern South Dakota, I leave around midnight on Sunday.

Indiana clubs don't pay and work bookings. Some in Wisconsin do, plus central and western Iowa, South Dakota, and parts of Minnesota.

These clubs are worth booking in my opinion.

Lamp Liter in Ottawa I hear is good but I never worked it yet.
Ridgewood II in Fort Madison Iowa is ok but since it is only 4 nights you won't make as much.

Gin Mill in Fountain Valley Wisconsin ( right across the river from Winona MN pays $400 fro a Tues- Sat booking.

Four Mile Bar right down the hill from Gin Mill in the same town, pays some girls and others work for tips. You call around 3 and ask for Pam. They have a website I believe. Most likely they will book you with no pay.

A Touch of Class in Ft. Dodge Iowa is a divey looking bar but they pay road girls $350 a week. Call around 4 Mon-Wed and ask for Perry. They get some older guys who will spend in there and I've made $1700-$1800 for the week there.

Top Hat is another club in Ft Dodge. They don't pay and expect their house girls to work 6 nights so some have quit and gone to Touch of Class. Just call and see if they will book you for a week.

Aragon in Albert Lea MN pays $300 for the week. Business is so so, but I go there regularly. They get some decent regulars. Call between 10-11 and ask for Jeff or Dawn. They want a dancer reference from a dancer and a club. It's only 85 miles from the Twin Cities so I stick with it to be able to go to the cities in order to keep my sanity being in small towns all the time.

Scarlett O'Haras in Sioux Falls SD has a website and books. They pay $350 for a full pay booking. Go to their website and follow the instructions. Ron is the GM and expects a picture to be mailed. He books about 7 weeks out.

Southfork Lounge in Watertown SD is good. They pay $400 for the week. Call and ask for Bill the owner. Good middle aged regulars here.

Cock a Too- Yankton SD. Call at 4 and ask for Amy or Jan. Pay went up to $400 for the week. Make sure to confirm that with them or they may pay you $300. Go to their website and e-mail a phot before calling. 50 miles from Sioux City and 65 miles from Sioux Falls.

Teasers- Sioux City IA. I think pay is $350 a week. E-mail a photo and call them back.

Mettlers- Mankato MN 80 miles south of Minneapolis. No club pay just $25 to work. Send a picture attn: Mike or Jan and call them back. Get on the schedule Thursday before the week you want to work. I think they only let you work 5 days.

Racehorses- Salem SD 35 miles from Sioux Falls. Stay in Sioux Falls. Open Wed- Sat. Call Bob or just show up Wed at 7:15. No pay , just $10 to work if there before 7:30.

Kongo Klub- Mitchell SD 67 miles west of Sioux Falls. Pay $450 per week. E-mail photo and call Hoss Monday afternoon between 1-3. Popular club. Take whatever booking he gives you as he is hard to book. Only 30 miles from Racehorses. Don't tell Hoss if you work at Racehorses or he won't book you. Check out the website. Made $2350 there the last booking and the other 2 times I worked there around $1850. Don't let the picture of the club on the website fool you. It's been there for 25 years and the older farmers all know about it and like it.

Des Moines may work for you. No bookings but Big Earls and Minx are good clubs. You need to set a schedule, but these are bring your own beer nude clubs, and older guys go here to buy dances. Look sexy and classy when applying.

The clubs in Eastern Iowa, such as Waterloo, Cedar Rapids and Davenport don't work bookings and have house girls.

The Northern in Fargo ND has a dorm for the dancers to stay in free. Just put $20 in an envelope towards supplies. No club pay but they require each girl to either work a Friday or Saturday lunch buffet in which they pay $50. Saturday is best. Fargo has strict contact laws
and I haven't worked there recently because the bouncers are always breathing down your neck. It hurts your money but the club does good business.

There are some clubs in Hurley Wisconsin that book but I haven't heard good things about them.

Build relationships with regular customers who spend money on you in these clubs. If this works for you, try out the different clubs and keep regularly rebooking the clubs you like and become popular in. Exchange numbers with the GOOD customers, and speak to them for a few minutes when they call. Some of these guys will travel to different clubs you are booked at, not just the one you met them in. This is very important.

Once you get established, up to 1/3 of your money in a week in certain clubs may come from your regulars.

If this will work for you, this is what I can think of right now.

You may have to experiment with some clubs. All of them aren't good. The clubs I mentioned you can profit in. Of course their are some slow weeks but not bad enough to put you in the hole.

Tina I'm shocked that we haven't worked together. I've been to 5 of those on and off.

I would also like to throw out Okaboji, Iowa (300 per week in summer; 400 week in the "winter season")
and a town within a stones throw of that Milford (club named Zippers) and they pay a similar base.
I've only danced at Boji Nights. (I love the bar and have done pretty well there)
