Default Cruise Interview - Is He Pretty Enough?

I watched part of the interview this morning. In short, he doesn't think antidepressants do any good and the way I took it, they couldn't possibly benefit anyone. A lot of people are fairly PO'd. Is he pretty enough to survive this massive slap in a lot of individual's faces?

Yeah, I watched "Extra" last night and they had bits and pieces of the interview. I set my TiVo to record it because I want to see the whole conversation before I really form my opinion. BUT, the parts that I did see.. Whew! Where does Tom get off acting all high and mighty and all-knowing? Where's his medical degree? He hardly knows EVERYTHING about anti-depressants and Ritalin. Someone needs to knock him off that pedestal he keeps himself on.

He came off like an ass in my opinion, and made HIMSELF look stupid.

I completely understand where he is coming from...and quite frankly, I agree with him. I think that there is a lot of truth to what he is saying. HOWEVER...there is one small factor that he is forgetting and it's FREE WILL. Everyone has the freedom to choose what they want in life. Just because they don't choose what he thinks is best doesn't make them lesser beings, what not. The problem ISN'T that he believes that a lot of these "medicated" ailments are wrongly done so...but that he's putting himself out there as the supreme know-it-all and basically calling anyone who chooses to take meds "stupid" or whatever term he uses.

He's recently "hired" his sister as his publicist...and since doing so, his "image" is going down the tubes. She doesn't put reins on him (like his last publicist did). Producers, et al were pissed off that he walked the red carpet with Katie Holmes and gave interviews at the Batman Begins movie...taking the attention away from the actual stars of the movie and even tooting his own movie! He's completely out of control...the Divine Dichotomy would be that he needs to chill out with a few Ritalin himself. heh

Very true VG. I also watched Oprah. First Katie Holmes? I mean she is cool, but if you ever watched Tom's path in life, it would seem this would not be a female he would chose.

I really really like him. But he attacked Brooke Shields for having to take antidepressants. Wow, he is laying his image on the line here.

But yes he is too pretty to fail! All this crap he is pulling is a way to get him "big" again in the spot light. Brad pitt had the show for a while, Tom made sure that stopped.

And yes he needs not have his sister manage him. He needs to be put on a tight leash again. The guy is acting 15 years old for crying out loud.

I actually thought he was on a drug for a short time. I now know he is just acting the fool for attention. After all his BIG movie will be due out, and they want to make more $$$$$ than any.

SO.....He better act his age, because pretty does not last forever, then you have to rely on you're 'brain' which he seems not be doing at the moment.

Don't attack people, and then go on OPrah with the "i just love people and life so much" shit.

Ya know i feel for Katie, i think he will break her heart, he goes through women like piss.

He'll keep Katie until she learns that she can think for herself.

I really think that's what happened with Nicole Kidman...he was "happy" with her until he couldn't "control" her anymore.

I hope it turns out alright, but I have a feeling that it's going to end badly.

He is going through a mid-life crisis - that is what the Katie thing is all about.

He is a scientologist - that should tell you he is a wacko right at the beginning. He is doing scientology no service - but perhaps is doing the public a service - by showing the wacko ideas these people have.

He should just say "Americans are to dependent on their drugs these days" and leave it at that. But nooooo - he has to go on an elaborate into bizarre and unaccepted notions. Like vitamins are going to help schizophrenia and the like. Puh-leeze.

Yep. Just wait until day he needs meds. Especially to help with a crisis! Oh and it will happen if he lives to a ripe ole age. No one is exempt from developing a "disease." It will hit the papers like flies on shit. Papparazzi (sp) will be waiting for this!!

Scientology abhors psychiatry and Psychotropic drugs. It's a religion thing. Even Paramount is becoming spooked by Tom Cruise's irrational behavior. They're seriously looking to ditch Mission Impossible 3 because of Cruise's lunacy.

However, 20 reason why psychiatry is better that Scientology...

As 'bad' as it is, psychiatry is still better than Scientology because...

    1. Psychiatrists don't practice medicine without a license (Scientologists do).

    2. Psychiatrists don't use the court systems to harass and silence former patients (Scientologists do).

    3. Psychiatrists don't dead agent and black op people who speak out against them (Scientologists do).

    4. Psychoanalysis doesn't cost $500,000 or more (Scientologists can cost just that).

    5. Psychology doesn't promise it can cure homosexuality (Scientologists do).

    6. Psychiatrists don't dissuade people from getting proper medical attention when they need it (Scientologists do).

    7. A psychiatrist won't hard-sell you for $5,000 to put up a "Think for yourself" propaganda billboard in Germany (Scientologists did).

    8. Psychiatry isn't based on a silly science fiction story about murdered Galactic Conferation citizens (Scientology is, I am not kidding here).

    9. Most psychiatrists don't claim to have been run over by a freight locomotive on Venus (Scientologists do. Again, no joke).

    10. You don't have to do 50 hours of "Op Pro by Dup" when you go to a psychiatrist (Scientologists do).

    11. Psychiatrists don't make you sign a billion year contract.

    12. Psychiatrists don't send you to prison camp, where you are made to do slave labor, when your "stats" are "down."

    13. Psychiatrists don't call your home 9 times a day wanting to know if you are "confirmed" for an event.

    14. Psychiatrists don't make you disconnect from your parents, family, and friends (Scientologists do).

    15. Psychiatrists don't pressure you into making a pro-psychiatry "personal" web page and then secretly install censoring software from the "Psychiatriac Patients Online" CD (Scientologists have).

    16. You don't have to max out your credit cards or take out a second mortgage to get psychiatric help (This one speaks for itself).

    17. Psychiatrists don't help you in obtaining higher credit limits from your credit card companies so you charge another $8,000 before Thursday at 2.

    18. You don't have to clap at a picture of Sigmund Freud and chant "Hip Hip Hooray" three times.

    19. Psychiatry honors counselor / patient confidentiality (Scientologists don't). 20. Psychiatry didn't lie to the state of Utah about its religious affiliations (Scientologists did).

Scientology is quite likely the most ruthless, the most classically terroristic, the most litigious and the most lucrative cult the country has ever seen. No cult extracts more money from its members. -- Cynthia Kisser, former Executive Director, Cult Awareness Network.

The backbone of Scientology at the link below... LOL.

And, anyone who thinks this is BS... The Church sued over this stuff being leaked. Did they sue for Defemation? Nope. They sued for trade secret violations. In other words, Scientology was upset because the paper was spilling its secrets, not because the story was false.

It's a JOKE that anyone can believe this steaming pile of horseshit.

Here's a link to a page dedicated to someone who fell for it and paid a big price...

They showed parts of the interview, like I said.. And one part that struck my funny bone was when Matt asked Tom why he felt that the use of antidepressants is wrong. Tom replied "Because I don't like it." So I guess that's the end-all there.. If Tom doesn't agree with something, it's WRONG!

He's a moron. When he's finished "playing house" with Katie and finds that he can't control her anymore, like VG pointed out, he'll be done with her. Just like it happened with all the rest. It's just a matter of when Katie WILL retake control of herself. Hell, she came from a very devoted Catholic upbringing, and converts to Scientology in the 2 months they've been together? We'll see when she snaps out of it and starts drawing that line.

Ah well, he'll continue raving like a dumbass, and I'll continue watching and laughing my ass off. Hey, it's entertainment.

Cruise is shooting himself and his career in the foot with his antics of late. Picking on Brook Shields and berating Matt Lauer is just the latest in a string of idiocies by a guy who belongs to a religion (read "cult") that professes mind control and has enough money, fame and lemming-like devoted fans not to care what we think of him anymore.

Nicole wised-up, I hope Katie does soon.

Well, Cruise is good-looking and a very good actor. Marlon Brando could command seven-figure appearances in films even while he was eating his own island. As long as Cruise dedicates himself to roles that are publicly appealing, he'll have studios and directors who are quite willing to overlook his off-screen antics.

He got into a damn near shouting match with some german interviewer who called Scientology "Pseudo-Science."

Had to have a Scientology tent on set for War of the Worlds.

I kind of think that Tom is losing his looks. He looks a little crazy to me. The whole scientology religion is very strange. It's amazing how many celebrities have turned to it and Kabbalah. Whatever happened to our celebrities being strung out on cocaine? I hate it when they start trying to change the world, just make another damn movie, get your million dollars and fucking entertain us, don't preach.

I just get so annoyed at him. Psychiatry has had to work very hard to undo the social taboo and stigma of being "depressed". A few years ago, hearing someone had a "mental disorder", people immediately assumed they were dangerous and should be in straight jackets. Now it's okay for people who are mentally ill to seek help without fear of shame or embarassment, and that's wonderful.

I agree that Ritalin is overprescribed, ADHD over-diagnosed. But that's also due to parents seeking an excuse for the child's misbehavior, and school's just trying to find a way to mellow the kids and push them along.

But for other people, antidpressants are a wonderful, life changing thing. Brook Shields has post-partum depression...she wanted to kill her children. The drugs helped her NOT become a murderer.

My brother has severe anxiety, OCD, and clinical depression. Brain scans show that his brain activates very differently than that of a "Normal" brain. He wanted to kill himself. He could't talk to people. He couldn't go outside unless his shirt had been ironed 7 times and his nose blown 19 times, exactly. He hated himself, he hated his family, he tried to hurt me.

Therapy wasn't enough, consistant, tough displine wasn't enough. But the day he went on Paxil, he was a completely different person. He's sweet,c harming, considerate, he goes to parties and has tons of friends.

    It saved his life.

How I hear it, is that L. Ron Hubbard was talking to someone at a sci-fi convention and they got to talking about tax avoidance schemes. He said that religions have the best tax avoidance scheme out there. Then he said he could create a religion and it would be taken seriously - so to prove a point he went out there and did it. I am sure he was dumbfounded by the number of lemmings out there willing to believe anything.

^ LOL...I thought I heard that too. If Scientology was so "great" at mind control...why are more people Scientologists?

*sigh* Some people will believe anything...

Personally, I have never cared for the man. I have always viewed him as someone with a huge ego. I'm not into movie stars and I'm not into men who treat women like shit and use them and toss them away. Personally, I think that Nicole was doing HIM a favor by staying with him as long as she did. I personally think she is awesome and very much a role model for the most part.. you never see her as anything but classy and you never hear anything negative about her... And I agree VG.. I think the relationship with Katie will end badly. Poor Katie.. aww.. just kidding..

I saw the interview and found it more entertaining than anything else. Anything he doesn't like is wrong, sounds like a whiny little kid if you ask me. The world according to Tom Cruise was basically what that whole interview was about.. and did anyone else notice the HUGE bags under his eyes????

I personally like Matt Lauer.. (hottty!)... I think he handled it quite well considering the asshole sitting across from him...
