    Hurt myself pretty bad this time...

    I pulled a muscle in my upper abs right in between my ribs last monday doing pilates.
    The sucker still hurts!

    if i try to stretch it feels like someone is yanking the muscle apart,

    what should i do?
    should I go to a doctor?

    has this happened to anybody?

    should i take something? it's really slowing me down.

    I've never done anything like that doing pilates but I've pulled something where my thigh connects to my body in there and just didn't do anything to aggravate it for a while and it went away. I'm no doctor though so I can't tell you what to do. maybe take some ibuprofen? That'd probably be what I'd do first but I hate to go to the dr.

    Defintely take some NSAIDs (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug,) like Ibuprofen. Use a heating pad or warm bath to relax the muscle. I think just rest and going easy on it will do the trick, since I don't think a doctor can do much for you.

    the lady that runs that class is great but she's a total pilates Nazi!
    if i would have known I would be in pain 8 days later I would've passed the class and went to aerobics!

    that makes me wonder about who is teaching your class! If you hurt yourself that is not good. My pilates instructor I used to work with used to tell us if anything hurts at all STOP! If we had a pain (beyond the normal soreness from exercise) she wouldn't let us do certain exercised until it went away. Now when she moved out of town I had to use my my sessions I'd already paid for with her in another studio. I HATED going there. My back ALWAYS hurt and they wouldn't let me just do my old routine. I bought my own machine and then started doing my routine from my old instructor and my back stopped hurting. Are you doing machine or floor pilates? I've never done mat pilates so I don't know much about that. Did you tell her you were hurt?

    Wow...what movement were you doing?

    I've been doing Pilates for years and I've never had anything like that happen to me...

    Like the chick in my yoga video always says (always because I play it all the time) "it's a yoga/pilates PRACTICE, not PERFORMANCE". You don't have to keep up with her or anyone else. Just do what you can do. You're getting the benefits even if you do just a little.
