Default Anybody in Alaska this summer?

I'm almost definitely going back home to work for a couple weeks in August (free ticket, how could I say no?). The money here has been awful the last few weeks and I need to get ahead before next semester starts.

I'm a little nervous though because my freind who all summer has been swearing that I'll make a grand a night if I come up there was a little less encouraging the last time I talked to her. Is it an awful money year, or was my freind having a bad day?

How competitive are Bush and Crazy Horse right now?

    Lena,
There is an EXCELLENT chance that I will be in Alaska working @ Bush Co. in August. I was just hanging w a friend last night who is on his way home there. He said that his family can find me free or cheap accomodations. Now...the ticket won't be cheap....but let's keep in touch over this, I hope to come up there, its a dream for me to see the beautiful land!

    Hi,

I am considering the Borealus Beach Club in Wassila...as i was it Bush co a few yrs ago, and fancy a nice serene peaceful change - there's one gal who posted on here that she had a good experience, and i am happy with $3-500 a night....does anyone know anything about this place?

If you guys were to work anywhere like that I would suggest the Bush Co. I never heard anything bad about them when I was in Alaska. Hint of advice..dont work there in the winters. It is completely dead and you probably wont make much money. It starts getting cooler there probably towards the end of August/start of September, and definitely snow by October.

I worked at Bush several years back. I would recommend that over going to Wasilla. Being in Anchorage is just like being in the lower 48 states. VERY racially diverse and more like a smaller version of a city (about 300,000 people).

They hands down get the most business, but it will vary by night. The local customers don't spend much. I would strongly advice taking off Fridays because of that.

I worked from the end of July until December 6th. I also spent a week at Crazy Horse before Bush. There is money to be made through the end of September from tourists.

Room rates have gone waay up. The new Motel 6 and Super 8 get $129 per night through September. I stayed at a ramshackle type motel/apt called the Arctic Tern Inn for $324 per week in the summer for a 2 bedroom apt and some dancers stayed there too. I'm sure they have gone up too. To me, not being able to get a weekly rate place in the $300 a week range or less is problematic, because when you have slow nights you could end up in the hole. Plus you have to count for plane fare, and transportation around town.

Cabs do big business there. I flew in and my fiancee' drove the car up so we got around easily. Plus through one of his business connections he was able to send up 10-12 boxes of our things for almost nothing, so that allowed us to set up a mini home there.

My guy flew up on business the end of March and got a direct flight from Denver round trip for $600 on Cheap Seats, plus set up his room and car rental through them. I don't know the rates now, but to cover the expenses AND make a profit, I think a dancer should figure on about 2 months there, AND have a hookup to a reasonably priced place to stay, hopefully no more than about $350 per week.

You WILL have some slooow nights, just like any other club (nights of $100 or less). That is to be expected in a place that generates a lot of money off tourists. The club gets full with locals too, but they don't spend on dances as much. The people who live outside the Anchorage area that come to town spend decently, though.

I would play with the numbers on everything I mentioned before going so that you come out ahead, and not lose money.

    Tina,

Thanks. I've worked at the Bush Co before, and I have a free ticket and will probably be staying with a freind. I was mostly just wondering about this year, how competitive it is and how much money there is (I imagine it's changed since six years ago when I was there).

Kat, woohoo! I'll PM you. :-)

A friend of mine was in Anchorage last year. She said her average was $400 a night.

I was at the Bush Company last year and did okay, but not great. Feel free to do a search on my posts from then and also to read the review I wrote.

It is beautiful up there, but they manke you work so much at the Bush that you're exhausted on your days off. I got to see some nice stuff though.

My friend who works there says that money gets worse every passing year and the quality of girls and customers is declining along with it.

    Caveat emptor.

Thumbs up Re: Anybody in Alaska this summer?

I was just there....worked at Busch company. I only worked one night and just decided to spend the rest of my time (4 days) chillin/seein the sights. I just can't start work 6 hrs before the action. There is good money potential after 10/11 pm but wtf do you do from 4pm until then? I couldn't do it. Any girls who have the patience for it can make good money over the course of the shift.....I like to be very efficient with my time so it just wasn't for me.

I will recommend a completely wonderful/personable hostel named Spenard Hostel....I loved it there...do a google search and you can find their website...there is even a picture of skeeter the house dog
