I want to point out that this was not a thread about Scientology when it started it was actually about the whole Cruise incident about the dot com site making fun of him. I am sorry it turned into such a hateful thread, I really was hoping it wasn't.
I want to note that I did not actually start this thread so please don't attack me on it.
I think everyone can have their own beliefs and go ahead and talk about them, but attacking someone else isn't extending your belief it's just trying to belitte someone, which may be fun to others, but not to me.
I am not going to post on this anymore since I ran out of things to say and hate it when others repeat themselves.
Please don't lick me, it tickles..

I think most religions are brainwashing cults. I've run into individual churches that didn't seem to fit that mold, but in general they are all after your wallet and dangle some pie in the sky fantasy in front of you to get it.

Whoever doesn't follow the leader doesn't get the magic carpet ride to candyland.

    Gypsy,

You started this thread with a *thumbs-up* for Scientology and within your first post was defensive about Scientology and attacked anyone that attacked it. I'm sorry you don't like what I wrote. I don't take any of it back. I could add more. Lots more. Again, I study cults as a hobby. Also, if you re-read my posts, you'll find that I'm not putting Scientology down to raise up other religions. You also admit you know every little of your religion so getting upset with people that point this out is rather ridiculous. And if you say Scientology has done great things for people, please give us some verifiable examples. Saying so doesn't make it so. I can give you websites that tell of the horror stories of survivors of Scientology. Also, people don't tear into Scientology just because of what Tom Cruise says. People have been tearing into Scientology long before Tommy was a movie star. Lastly, I don't hate Scientology. I'm just calling a spade a spade. Sorry if that upsets you.

Odd coming from the one that gave this thread the title of "Scientology" with a thumbs-up symbol. *laugh*

I am sorry it turned into such a hateful thread, I really was hoping it wasn't.
I don't think it is a hate thread. We're just exposing it for what it is. That's all.

Odd. On my browser, you posted the first post to this thread.

We're just pointing out the realities of your religion. Again, as my original post suggested, read "L. Ron Hubbard: Messiah or Madman?" and you'll learn about what you're defending. Ignorance isn't a good defense.

This thread was originally part of the Tom Cruise = Nutcase thread. Rhia moved it due to the hijack.

Gypsy DIDN'T post it. And i suppose Rhia was being a shit disturber (those wascally wedheads!) with the thumbs up dealiebob.

Hahaha! That rocks, Babes. I just figured that we had enough posts discussing Scientology to break it off into its own thread.

For the record.. Gypsy did NOT start the thread with a thumbs up. She didn't start the thread at all for that matter. It just happened that her post was the first discussing well.. Scientology, and not so much the Tom Cruise site. So, that's why she was the first post. The Thumbs-Up icon was transferred from the other thread when it was split.

So there we have it. Please do NOT attack her for something she didn't do.

Anytime that ANY religion gets discussed, it's going to ruffle some feathers and cause somebody to get hurt. I think this can be discussed calmly and rationally (let's not pull a "Tom Cruise" here, people). Everyone has opinions. Discuss them, but keep the gloves up, mmkay?

This has been a public service announcement from your friendly moderator. We now return you to your regular scheduled thread.

Perhaps those of us who try to educate people about their religions are trying to help those people see their religion for what they are. Would you think it is wrong to try to explain to a person that thought the Earth was flat that it isn't? Would you think it is wrong to counter a flat-Earth believer when they post something that advocates such nonsense? I believe ignorance is not a good thing and is curable. I believe those that educate others are civic-minded and doing good. Those that advocate or wose protect ignorance are at best misguided.

Ah. I didn't know it was a split-off. That would have been nice to know.

You are being hateful, pp. You are getting some strange narcissistic needs out by chastising her because she is a scientologist. I can see it because I've done it before myself. Some people need certain things in their lives, hers being scientology. We can point out the bad in anything, but the truth is, just like anything, there is good mixed in there too. I'm sure that you leading your son down the proper path of strip clubbing instead of reading dianetics.... hey, that was def the right thing to do, right? Some of us see it as training your son to be just as fucked up as you are. Hey, I just call a spade a spade.

Well, I thought it would be obvious considering the title of the thread had changed, but the Tom Cruise one was still there. But, whatever.

Anyway.. ET is right. You are attacking Gypsy. Please stop.

Honestly, i just think it's a scam. If someone was to go all the way to Operating Thetan level 8 (there may be a 9, too, but the shit for it hasn't leaked) they'll wind up paying out damn near 300,000$

You wouldn't believe some of the horror stories people have!

I see no reason to chastize Gypsy for her... Aw, hell with it...

*shoots spitballs at Gypsy_Girlchild for being an icky scientologist*

Ahem! Now that that's out of my system... Where was i?

    j/k

I have actually been accused of being an 'Apostate' Scientologist out to smear the church (one wonders if that would fall under Hubbard's "Fair Game" decree), but then i've also been accused of being an Apostate JW because i talk smack about Watchtower, too (Wanna see the thought police? Check out Watchtower).

Sorry you think I'm being so. There is little emotion I have for this old topic. It's just a subject of study for me.

Well, to be accurate, if I'm chastising her for anything is not knowing her religion very well and using that stance as part of her defense.

I can see it because I've done it before myself. Some people need certain things in their lives, hers being scientology.
She made statements that I read as being open-minded to learning about her cult. After all these posts, that assessment was obviously wrong. If it had been right, this thread would have developed along a different line.

We can point out the bad in anything, but the truth is, just like anything, there is good mixed in there too.
You need to read up on Scientology more then. *laugh*

First, I have no son ... or daughter for that matter.

Second, that you think stripclubs are a fucked up thing to do is interesting given the forum you're posting to.

Third, nice of you calling me "fucked up". I'm so glad receive your assessment of myself. I know you're qualified to do so. I guess I can only mediate on my evil deeds and hope for an early painful death.

I was trying to have a discussion. Nothing more, nothing less. I didn't call any poster here "fucked up", "shit starter", "hateful", or such. I tried to encourage self-education and where to look for such information. That's all. Oh well.

PP. While I commend you on studying religions, you need to realize that you are no expert. It's not up to you to "educate" anyone. People who believe in a religion do so because they want to, and in their own way. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In a whole lot of religions, there is no wrong way, and no right way, just the way of the person who chooses to practice it. That is their right. If you don't believe in that particular religion, what's it to you? Honestly. Leave them alone.

Just because you are against Scientology, you do not have to insult someone who believes in it.

You're really starting to remind me of the Tom Cruise/Matt Lauer interview where only Tom was right---and the rest of the world was wrong. Again, just because you study something, you aren't an expert. And people on the inside of that religion have every right to be upset when they are being told "Go learn about your religion". Don't make judgments about what they do and do not know. You couldn't possibly know that.

    Rhiannon,

I would consider myself an expert on cults. I've been invited and given talks to groups about them. Sat on discussion panels dealing with them. My degree in psychology and minor in business administration plus the years of being a marketer gives me quite a good insight into their mindsets, how they operate, and why they flourish (or die). However, if you think one has to have published a book on a topic before being an expert, I am not that much of an expert yet. Yet. I am currently circulating a book proposal to publishers to do so. The working book title is called "Cults: The genesis of religions" and is about the life cycles of cults. Most cults that will be covered have died out, but that's because most cults do. Those that don't become established religions like Christainity, Islam, and such. If you like, I can send you the book proposal for your review.

But only allowing experts to disagree in a discussion greatly limits discussions. People do not and should not need to be a recognized expert to speak on a topic as long as they can back their statements with facts. And if people don't debate topics, people are then just talking without listening.

And encouraging people to learn more about their religion isn't a sin or wrong. I started off giving a link to a book that dealt directly with the cult in question from an ultimate insider.

A degree in psychology and a minor in business does not make you an expert on cults. Neither does writing a book. Each to their own ideas. Encouraging a person to learn more does not include calling them ignorant or chastising them, which you have done both. It's how you are choosing to communicate your ideas that is annoying. Everything you write has this narcissistic air about it, as if you are the number one expert on everything there is. Some of it just reeks of bullshit.

I agree with ET. And no, I don't believe that publishing a book makes a person an expert. I have a problem with the word "expert" in general. It says in a way that a person knows everything there is to know about a topic. And I think that's pretty impossible. Things are constantly evolving and branching off. No one can possess ultimate knowledge. You just take what you've learned, work with it, learn even more still.

I would be very interested in reviewing the proposal. I'm open-minded enough. I just ask that you are the same way with other members is all.
