Default Trying it on for the first time

I'm from Salt Lake City and I'm thinking of getting into the business. I admit that I'm pretty nervous about getting up in front of a room of strangers and shaking my ass around while only wearing two pasties and a g-string. I guess my biggest problem is that I've always been very modest because that's the way I was raised. Well now I need money fast to pay some major bills and I'm unsure how to overcome that modesty problem. Any suggestions??

The view from the other side of the fence....

You are contemplating getting into an unusual branch of the entertainment business. Unfortunately, men go to strip venues with a set of pre-conceptions, one of which is that you're getting a degree of pleasure dancing for them.

If you are going to feel embarrassed shaking it about, then this embarrasment will communicate itself to your audience, and your earning potential will be substantially reduced. You're not going to get tips, etc., from a customer if your body language is saying: "I don't like dancing for you."

A lot of dancer's I know get round the embarrasement problem by having distinct work persona. They then rationalise things in their own mind by thinking it's "stage name" shaking her stuff, not "real name".

The other way to approach things in your own mind is to realise that while at work, you are in a very special environment. The way you behave at work is totally different to the way you would behave in your real life. Regard being at work as a total exception from your normal personality/way of life, [i.e. adopt a work persona], and realise that you go back to being the real you as soon as you walk out of the door of the venue.

The way I got over mine was to imagine that I was dancing with and for my BF (boyfriend). Heck, I had done plentyy of floor dancing at bars before with a bunch of people.

Next, you are going to say that, "IF I GO OUT ON THE DANCE FLOOR, PEOPLE WILL SEE I'M NOT THAT GOOD". Not to worry. Places I have worked, the patrons could have cared less. Some were more interested in drinking, talking, and just loitering. Just work throught it, no big deal. And to those that are watching, just glance at them. If they appear friendly enough, smile. If not, look at the ceiling, wall, or something.

Now comes the part where I am supposed to tell you have confidence, well, I'm not. Because everybody, and I mean everybody who got up there the first time (including me) was scared krapless. It will last about 20 seconds, but keep moving. If you can get up there and avoid freezing, you would have it won.

Hey, it is your world, get out there and conquer it!!
