    Default Poor Posture

It has come to my attention that I have terrible posture. My family noticed that I didn't have that problem before I had my breasts done. Unfortunately, I've had my implants for 6 years, and I'm guessing poor posture the entire time. It seems like my back isn't strong enough to hold itself upright for very long... I just end up slumping forward. My shoulders tend to curve forward as well, and I always have neck problems. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to correct it?

I had to correct my bad posture to help heal an old back injury. The main task is to strengthen your shoulder, back and stomach muscles, since all these groups work together to form a "frame" for your spine.
Also, I wear tight sports bras (my puppies want to come out and play all the time LOL) and the tight elastic is like a "rubber band" reminder to sit up straight. The bra also "spreads" some of the mass of your breasts up towards your shoulders and lessens the "hanging" weight of your cleveage.
Invest in some posture-enforcing chairs and pillows...the main thing is to form habits that keep your back straight. (I also have a sheet of plywood under my mattress.)

Pilates or Yoga helps strengthen back muscles. You may also want to consider getting a reduction? I'm not sure what steps you are willing to take...

But, start weight lifting or doing Yoga/Pilates. You'll notice a difference.

Need more information on what your posture is doing. Describe the curvature of your spine when you are standing "normally", what your shoulders are doing, etc.

What are your hips doing at the same time? Does your butt "stick out" as your torso goes forward?

I aree that pilates will definatly help as will yoga but it will take more than one or two sesions to notice a diffeence. Too many people drop out after a couple of weeks complaining that they dont notice a difference. You will have to go at least once or twice a week for a coluple of months before you notice any big changes. Also try to find a good chiropracter. This did wonders for my posture and back problems as they realign your spine. I also see an accupuncturist once a fortnight and this seems to help too.

I don't have big boobies but have a tendency to slouch. Pilates helps me a lot with that.

I used to walk around with a book on my head when I was a kid. Mom said that it would help me stand up straight. Might want to give it a try and see if it helps.

Have you had your spine checked? I have that problem and they told me it was due to bone density loss and possibly scoliosis...

If I were you I'd go to a chiropractor and get it checked out. Even if it's just posture, plain and simple, they can perscribe you a back brace for off hours that will help your back straighten without pain.

I guess I have to quit being so lazy with pilates! I have the Windsor DVDs & I like them, I just need to work on my motivation. Madmaxine, you're right about strengthening my shoulder, back & stomach muscles.

I never really thought about bone density loss, but that's a definite possibility. I'm lactose intolerant and I despise milk. I'm pretty sure my huge lack of calcium doesn't help the situation. Today I made an appointment with my doctor, so maybe he'll refer me a chiropractor & some kind of spine specialist.

Just in case I haven't said this lately, I love SW members Everyone is so intelligent & gives awesome advice.... thank you!

Alot of women with implants have posture problems. Something gentle like Yoga or the Alexander tecnique may be good, even some massage. Usually I recomend Chiropractic or an osteopath because I swear by it, but I was with my best friend once when she had chiropractic and I was worried about her implants rupturing from the force of some of the adjustments.
