    Default white spots

Ever summer I get white spots all over my body but mostly my upper body. Ive been googling and found out it is a fungus on the skin and happens when you sweat, get hot or tan.

Has anyone ever had this? I want this to go away so my photos dont have to be touched up as much and well just for me. What worked for you when you had this problem? Suggestions welcome

Do you exfoliate? Perhaps your using a scented cream which is getting into your skin while you sweat… umm.. or you could have a skin condition.

Good luck, hope it clears up!!

Selsun blue shampoo. Just take a bath with it or put it directly on the spots and let dry !

i have them permanantly on my lower legs just by my ankles, they have been there for years, but are faint enough thst i hardly notice or rememeber-my dad told me ages ago its a fungal thing too, but in some people, usually darker skinned ( i got just enough maori in me to have blood simiallaries) are prone to it something to do with their bloodlines of having darker pigments.

maybe micheal jackson wasnt lying when he mentioned he had a skin disease! haha

the white spots are nothgin to worry about as far as i know.

I've heard of using selsun blue shampoo on them. Supposedly it really does work. Maybe try that before you plunk down the $ for a derm. One of my friends has that too it always flares up when she tans.

The problem you're describing is Tinea Versicolor, a yeast that ocurs naturally on the skin. When there is overgrowth it causes the white spots.

    Now for the technical jargon:

Tinea versicolor is cause by a yeast type of skin fungus, which is present on normal skin. If the skin is oily enough, warm enough and moist enough, it starts to grow into small "colonies" on the surface of the skin. In these colonies the yeast grows like crazy and leaks out an acidic bleach. This changes the skin color. The patches are lightly reddish brown on very pale skin but they don't tan. Because of lack of any tanning, they look like white spots on darker or tanned skin. This is most often seen on the neck, upper chest, upper arms and back.

The infection is treated with either topical or oral medications. In very mild cases, non-prescription antifungal creams will work. Prescription antifungal lotions and sprays may work better. The most economical effective treatment is to apply an antifungal shampoo (Nizoral, Loprox) to the body as if it were soap, but leave it on for some minutes before rinsing.

Try tea tree oil products. I like the Selsun Blue idea but fear an allergic reaction to the soap in the solution.
I knew someone with a problem like this and the doctor had to prescribe a steroidal cream. That might be the easiest way to go.

It it possible that skin just lacks pigmentation in some places?

My right shin is so blotchy ever since I started tanning two months ago. There are places where it gets dark like the rest of me, and places that refuse to tan. I'm in a stand up booth (so I've heard) that rules out the fungi that you can pick up from beds.

I have an appointment with the dermatologist but it isn't for 3 weeks.
    Could I just be colorless?

My coworkers get it periodically from the tanning beds. You just use any anti-dandruff shampoo as body wash and it should disappear within a week.
...and the day came, when the risk it took to remain closed in a bud became worse than the risk it took to blossom.

I think I will try the shampoo. :\ I dont even know where the fungus comes from....I would so I could keep it from coming back. Its not so extreme on me; I think I just look funny.

How come others are getting it when they tan.,......is it from tanning beds?
