And it was only appraised at $57K! Talk about your publicity stunts.

Let's hope this gal doesn't "recoup" her investment by raising dancer fees.

I like what she wants to do with the proceeds. I have often thought of how hard this must be for Dennis Rader's family. Many rapists and murderers have normal families and hide their crimes- part of their thrill is the secret. When they get caught, their families are victimized too.
BTW, the house that Scott & Laci Peterson owned in Modesto CA sold for $390,000, which was $10,000 over the asking price. But the buyer plans to live there. Yikes.
I wasn't expecting it but that was actually a nice story. Hopefully she's sincere when she says she doesn't have any intention of profiting off the macabre aspects.

Some people have some weird, freakish desires. LIVING in a house in which you know a husband killed his wife and unborn child? Ick...
And, BTK...They should just rip the place down.

She already is,and it was intentional,or she would have spent her money better with a house that was the value of what she spent.Originally Posted by DesireTime
I doubt if the location or the nice walk in closets were a factor at all.
i got no problem with it either way,its her money.
I just hope this makes dancers money and doesnt cost them money.
I guess by "profit" I was thinking in more of a literal "selling it piece by piece on Ebay" kinda way.Originally Posted by BigGreenMnM

Reading Ms. Borins comments (posted above) carefully, she admits to overpaying.
To Mrs. Rader and the children, the overpayment (above the mortgage) would be a capital gain on sale and taxed at 10 per cent. This is a cheaper tax rate than a $30,000 gift
taxed at an ordinary income rate.
My point being she is trying to help out the family and give them some additional money to live on, with the additional amount being the premim (or overpayment) on the real estate sale. (this is scenario "A")
Newspaper reporters do not like to get into peoples motivations for doing something as
that is subjective and not a "fact." However the article did not say if Borin kew Mrs. Rader in the past. Given that Boring is 45 years old, and we can presume Mrs. Rader is probably in her late 30's or early 40's, (unproven projection without specific facts but likely), maybe they knew each other in the past. Maybe Mrs. Rader was was a dancer with Ms. Borin in the past? (Pure speculation. Maybe Doc Catfish can comment.)
Another thought, and based on screwed up housing market, but one would think that Kansas has a more logical value market than the bigger cities.
So here is scenario "B". (Similar to "A" above but with a twist and another assumption.
The house probably has a first mortgage. It may have a maxed out home equity loan
at a high adjustable rate due to credit
and payment issues. (Pure speculation.) Say the house was overvalued and that the
sum of the existing 1st mortgage balance plus the maxed out home equity loan (technically a second lien on title) is now greater than the appraised value of the house.
For the Rader family to get any help at all financially from the deal, you would have
to overpay because the proceeds from sale at the real estate value after paying off the
loan notes might be zero to the family.
I could start another thread on the dangers for doing a 5% downpayment deal
right now on condos in Miami to a consumer buyer should the market fall even 10%
from its inflated present value. However that would be off topic and ignite a
firestorm, and it should be in "Dollar Den."
Got to go. Later.

Whether they knew each other I don't know, but I doubt that the longtime owner of an adult nightclub and a devout Christian housewife would have had anything to do with each other, particularly considering Ms. Borin is kind of a minor celebrity around Wichita (you'd have to see her cheesy late night TV commercials to understand).Originally Posted by Niceguy
Of course, Mrs. Rader never thought her husband of 30+ years was a serial killer either, so who knows.
More Info About the Rader family.
Well, this is flyover country.Another thought, and based on screwed up housing market, but one would think that Kansas has a more logical value market than the bigger cities.
But it also has to be considered that were talking about a tiny 960 sq ft house (you could put four houses that size on a regulation basketball court with room to spare) built during the baby boom era. Park City is essentially a ramschackle suburb full of such homes (median house value is only $65K and even new homes average only about $115K).
The courts have to decide of the proceeds from the sale are going to be used to settle wrongful death suits, so the irony is way overbid or not, Mrs. Rader may not see a dime of that money.
Former SCJ now in rehab.
Even if the money from the sale is used to settle wrongful death suits, it's still going to a good use.
I hope the house is torn down and something better is put on the lot. Dennis Rader was widely known as a jerk before he was known as "BTK" and I'm sure the house absorbed bad energy from him. He lived there long enough.
PS It would surprise you what good Christian wives and strippers have in common. More than you'd think.....We're the opposite ends of the Madonna/ Whore Complex Teetertotter.
There are a surprising amount of "good christian" killers out there.
Just fitting in with society I suppose...
