    Default Fruit/Veggie Diet

Hi I have until August to loose 5-10 lbs. I run every day and make sure I get at least 1/2 hr of cardio in M-F. I was thinking to loose those last 5-10 lbs should I up my cardio to 1 hr a day with just eating raw fruits and vegetables with perhaps some nuts and grilled chicken breast. What do you girls eat? Right now I am 5'0 and 112. My mother always told me a girl my height should never be above 105 lbs at the most so I want to be like 100-105. Thanks!

To lose weight I have been eating chopped fruit with museli and greek yoghurt for breaky... snack on a provita biscuit or two with low fat cottage cheese.. lunch..... grilled chicken on salad... and dinner.. as per normal plus cardio and wieghts .... ive lost 2 Kilos in one week.. which is only one pound to you i think.

By the sounds of you you are fine though.. i think anyhow...

If you're doing all of that workout, and your diet is already pretty clean, then your body is where it should be. There is no such thing as, "You SHOULD BE under 105 or 125". Your muscle composition, bone structure, etc all have something to add to your weight.

I'm back down to 135. I'm 5'6"...I work out with weights 3 x's a week and cardio 3 x's a week. I eat plenty of fruits, veggies, chicken and fish.

Don't listen to your mom. She's going to make you look like an anorexic.

I dunno.....Guess every one is different. I have a friend who is 5'0 and weighs 100.
Another friend who is 5'0 weighs 101 and she looks nice. She is toned however.

They both carry the weight different, and don't look sick. Not too skinny.

Just be careful. I am 5'8 and at one time weighed in at 115!!! Looked good to others, but i did not like it. My weight now is 134 (as of yesterday)

    Good luck,

    Pamela

Overall you should get your bodyfat tested to see if you really do need to loose wieght.

Yea with your described plan you should be pretty skinny by then. Dont forget to leave out the processed sugars. Go for it...its hard to stay dedicated but if you can do it...more power to ya.

If you're cutting your diet down, be SURE you're getting enough protein. You body needs that. When obese people get gastric bypass surgery, all they're allowed to eat for the first months or so is protein. Protein shakes, eggs, chicken, fish. If you're cutting your diet regularly, besure to include plenty of protein. When bodybuilders are preparing for a tourney, they stop eating anything but water and proteins such as plain baked fish or chicken. Then a few days before the show they stop consuming water. While that's a little extreme, maybe just replace breakfast with a protein shake or something like that. I wouldn't cut out any food group however. If you're exercising, you need carbs to fuel you and provide energy. Every food group serves a purpose, and I run from any diet barring a whole food group. Especially the Fatkins diet which will allow a pound of red meat and cheese, but not an apple. Just be sure that you're burning more calories than you're taking in and you'll do fine. I'm a calorie counter, and it's worked 100lbs worth of wonders for me.

As for the "you shouldn't weigh over" or "for your hight" bullshit as Lewis Black said "We are all like snowflakes." Everyone carries their weight differently. You would not guess that I weigh 190lbs. I'm 5'8, and if I got down to the 135lbs that I'm "supposed" to weigh for my height, I'd be damn near dead, or look hella unhealthy and anorexic. I'm sure you look great. Just go with it.

I would maybe skip on the fruit if you are trying to lose weight because of all the sugar. I lost a bunch of weight recently by eating mostly protein bars, protein shakes, sushi, chicken, and fish. Not fun, but it worked wonders.

Be careful beachbunnie, I did a fruit and veggie diet right before becoming anorexic. It made me so sick, caused an open illiocecal (sp?) valve that took months to fix. It's a valve to your small intestine that keeps the poisons (waste) out of the bloodstream.

Just make sure you eat protein - add some cottage cheese to the grapes or fish with the asparagus. Cereal is good carbs and light enough for when your absolutely starving. Drink a ton of water. The key is a well-rounded diet, not extreme.
...and the day came, when the risk it took to remain closed in a bud became worse than the risk it took to blossom.

I think you seriously need to reconsider trying to lose 5-10lbs especially because your mom said so lol.

Anyway, from the looks of you only responding to what Jayln had to say (no offense Jay) I don't think there is any changing your mind.

I'm really concerned that your "motivations" could be alot bigger than you realize. Now, I'm not there in front of you to access anything..but I really hope you do not develop an eating disorder.

You are 5'0 112lbs..you want to INCREASE your cardio for 60min, AND only eat fruits/veggies and "perhaps" some nuts/grilled chicken.

I'm trying to let you see where I'm getting at here. If you lose any weight, it will just be muscle. Your body needs fat (the good fats, don't confuse it with the badd stuff) to live. You need calories so that you can burn fuel, and have energy.

I really do hope you do not go through with this.

i weigh around 110 and look ok. i'm the same height as you are. i used to weigh 105 and i think i looked better then...but then i had more muscle tone then too. i think you'd be too skinny if you went below 100lbs. 105lbs isn't too skinny for someone our height. finding clothes that fit is a bitch though.

also don't go too heavy on the nuts if you're trying to lose weight. they're too fattening. stick with lots of veggies and fruit, lots of water, and lean sources of protein like chicken, tuna, beans, etc. but don't go overboard on the protein. that's not healthy and can reck your kidneys...especially animal protein.

i don't eat meat, or eggs, or tons of dairy. so even though i haven't been hitting the gym as much as i used to (that will change soon), i haven't gained any weight either.

kicking up the cardio is a good thing as well.

    good luck.

Cut out sugar and preservatives/prepackaged food. I am a vegetarian and weigh 118 (5'9"). Just eat whole unprocessed grains, free range eggs, fruits, nuts, and veggies, and keep your total caloric count down.

    BeachBunni,

All my life I have heard that losing more than 2lbs a week is unhealthy.

Please strongly consider what Cinammonkisses posted for you.

I don't know your mom, but she doesn't know anything about body composition.

Like the other girls said, forget about BMI scales and ratios--they're all bullshit. Your weight is the result of many factors, not the least of which is your muscle fiber type, bone density and muscle/fat/bone ratio (which can be pretty accurately measured at any reputable gym with calipers).

See a trainer and adjust according to your MFB ratio. Best wishes.

    Sunkissed,
some other good suggestions were given by others, but the advice above is indeed the best so far.

Since you run every day and get in a 1/2 hour of cardio also, you will have to be very careful about modifying your dietary intake. An unintentionally created deficiency in your diet can effect the way that your entire body runs drastically. The more active you are, the faster you burn through what you put into your body. You should probably have a good balance going by now.

Your current daily level of exercise should have you pretty toned, so the important factor that you have to remember is that muscle weighs heavier than fat - this alone may account for what you see as "extra pounds"

Definitely see a pro trainer, they'll be able to give you the proper analysis and put your mind at ease.

Don't judge how you look by your weight. Muscle weighs more than fat, so even though you feel like you should be losing the weight cuz you've been working hard, you might stay about even cuz you're losing the fat, but muscle is building in it's place, so it evens out slightly.

PLUS I found that if I don't go NEAR a scale and just work out and eat right, I can FEEL and SEE results, like fitting into old clothes and buying smaller sizes. I don't need a scale to tell me how I look. I can SEE it. Plus then I don't get bummed out.

i feel i have to say this, and forgive me ms. sunkissedbeachbunni for jumping in on your thread, but being thin/skinny does not mean that one is anorexic (sp) or unhealthy or malnurished (sp). just because someone is smaller than a size 6 (or even 2) doesn't mean that they are starving themselves.

some of the advise given here is good...but i'm starting to think that there's an implication here that thinnes=unhealthy, and that's not true in alot of cases.

    that is all...carry on people

Thank you everyone for your comments, I'm sorry I didn't meant to make anyone upset. I will see a trainer at my gym thanks for that advice!

I don't think anyone got upset. We all just want to see you lose the weight in a 'safe' manner. Too quickly you may pass out. You may end up in the hospital hooked up to an IV getting vitamins and minerals back into you that you may deplete if you lose 2lbs a week.

I agree with the above. See a trainer. Usually you can walk into a gym and just strike up a conversation with one about what you would like to accomplish!!!

Again i have a few friends who are 5'0 and 100lbs. They look great. BUT, they eat, and workout. They just maintain this weight and carry it very well. They are far from too skinny!!!

    Lotsa luck,
    Pamela

I have always been thin. I promise I am NOT starving I actually have plenty of chest and booty and skinny arms and legs. If I eat healthy and eat everything in sight, I weigh 118 - 120. If I eat artery-clogging fast food, I weigh about 128. But I look an feel better eating healthier food, and the weight is distributed better.

I am 5'2" and 103lbs. That is me in the avatar pic. I don't look too skinny, but I have a tiny frame, my wrist measures 5 inches. It really is about body composition, when I work out more with weights I usually stay the same weight or even gain.

Delaney is right. I have a sister who is my height and nearly my age, and her natural weight in 135-140 while mine is 120. We really don't look that different- I just have smaller shoulders, wrists, etc. She wears a 6 and I wear a 2, but we both look almos the same.
