Hmm...interesting...

According to the students I have who are of middle-eastern/arab origin, they have become lukewarm in their support of bin Laden because the terrorist acts have done little to change the worldwide perception of Islam, except to make that perception a bit more negative. They more often express doubts as to the wisdom of such actions as suicide bombings, bombings of schools and hospitals, etc.
My latest conspiracy theory: I am convinced that Dick Cheney is, in reality, Elmer Fudd.

Granted, lw. However, I assume that your students are living in Texas and probably have lived in Texas for most of their lives !
What I found interesting about this poll were the specific results from middle eastern countries surrounding Iraq, i.e. Jordan, Syria, Pakistan etc. What I also found interesting about this poll was the near universal opinion re Jews/Israelis, leading to questions about just how much anti-American sentiment is directly targeted versus how much anti-American sentiment is indirectly generated due to America's unflagging support for Israel.
What I found disturbing about this poll was that negative sentiment in regard to Muslims in general has exceeded 50% of the population in Holland and Germany.

The weirdest result in that poll is that only 70% of Americans and Brits consider Islamic extremests a threat to their countries; I wonder what it would take to convince the other 30%.

I suspect that a 1/4 mile wide glowing crater in the middle of Hollywood with 100,000 civilian casualties might manage to get them thinking.

If it is in Hollywood most will probably assume that it is only a CGI special effect.Originally Posted by Melonie

Actually, if this occurred in Hollywood then quite a few high decibel liberal voices might be missing, i.e. Richard Gere, Alec Baldwin, Linda Ronstadt (long list of others)If it is in Hollywood most will probably assume that it is only a CGI special effect.
