    Default Poll - Clothes Shopping

Ya, I'm probably different because I'm a guy, but today after ordering some clothes online from the States, and going out today and buying some shirts on the high street, I totalled up my receipts and realized I spent over a grand in the last two weeks! (bought a couple dozen shirts, eight pair of trousers, and five pair of jeans)

Bear in mind, last time I bought new clothes for myself was probably two years ago, and some of the stuff I'm replacing I've actually worn since college (more than a decade).

So guys and gals, how often do you go clothes shopping?

Hey, I'm always on the lookout for something new to wear! If I see it and like it, I usually buy it!

Can afford it now. To go on a splurge at those high places such as Gucci, Yves St-Laurent, and others.
Heck, used to (and still do) go to Salvation Army, Wal-and K-Mart, Family Dollar, Dollar General stores. Starvation days.

    I put once a month.

Usually, once a month or so I go out with the intention of buying clothes.
But, if I find somthing I want on just a random trip out, I'll get it.

I go clothes shopping a couple of times a month at least. I don't necessarily buy stuff each time though. I like looking almost as much as buying. Plus, I'm kind of cheap too, so sometimes I just keep looking at stuff hoping it will go on sale.

That's part of the reason why I don't buy clothes often - I'm frugal. I'll wear something til it wears out or doesn't fit anymore. And my tastes are fairly conservative - I'm a Dockers kinda guy.

But today I went to a Hugo Boss store in Leeds city centre, and found a couple of shirts I liked and would really wear, and they actually fit (barely)! Best part - the regular retail price for these shirts were £85/each (about $150/each), but they were on sale for £25/each ($45/each)!

The only thing better than knowing you look good in a new outfit is knowing you got it on sale!

$150 for a shirt. You've got to be kidding me.

From an episode of "The Cosby Show" circa 1984:

"No 14-year-old boy should have a $95 shirt unless he's on stage with his four brothers"

I kid you not, Doc. If it were full price, no way in heck I would've bought it. Then again, I am a 33 year-old man who buys clothes every 2-3 years, so I have to allow myself some leeway on my indulgences once in a while

I'd tried on some shirts at the Ted Baker (London-based designer) earlier in the day, and if they'd fit, I would've bought at least a couple of them. They looked perfect, except for being a bit too snug around my ample tummy Well, now I have my motivation to get to the gym.

EDIT TO ADD: And if I may paraphrase a movie as well...Joe Pesci, in the Lethal Weapon series:

"They FUCK YOU on the exchange rate!"

(A shirt that costs £85 in England will more than likely cost $85 in America. That's the perils of buying things on the local currency.)

I put once every few months...I have a kick-ass thrift store near me that's not picked over and has all sorts of awesome stuff, brand names etc for $1/ piece. Whatever doesn't sell on eBay is my wardrobe
I also sew...I DO tend to crazy in fabric stores, so I guess that's the equivalent of a clotheshorse.

    Feature costumes for sale!

I voted once a month...I dont always find something I like though. If I REALLY like something then I buy it no matter how much it is b/c I know I will love it.

Not sure that would interest me in the least, (well maybe if Victoria's Secret was on the itinerary).

For me, "upscale shopping" is hitting an Old Navy or JC Penney. At Saks or Neiman Marcus, I'd feel like a whore in church.

Yeah, I'm a department store guy myself (most of the damage, online anyways, was through JCPenney. Bought some stuff from Macy's too). And all but the two Hugo Boss shirts were bought at the department stores in Leeds too.

I never bought anything "designer" until my cousins, my uncle, and I were walking around San Francisco a couple of winters ago (after Christmas, before New Year's). I finally ended up buying a pair of Guess jeans for $45 (a departure from my usual $25 Levis). Those are some damn good jeans though...

I might as well tag along. The uninteresting part is paying the bill.

Heck, maybe I can compound things by throwing in a nice dinner at Ruth's Chris afterwards. By that point, coughing up a $150 food bill will seem like a trip to Burger King.

My view on clothes shopping is that it is a necessary evil, but a good way to waste a fortune if you allow it to get out of hand. I'd still be wearing clothes from 10 years ago if I could make my tits fit in the tops !

I looovveee to shop but I'm also a bargain shopper. I like expensive stuff but don't like to pay the expensive price unless it's something I REALLY REALLY want and KNOW I will use a lot. I try not to shop too much but when I'm really stressed out going shopping helps. Sometimes I don't even buy anything and just try stuff on and never find anything I really want. Then other times I find tons of stuff all at once.

I put "more than once a month", but I normally do my shopping online and may find one item at one store and a complement at another.
