Arrow Need Quick Reply: AMBUSH MAKEOVER

Alright tomorrow, I am supposed to be helping a fellow dancer at my club "soften" her look a little bit as requested by the management. The girl has a very goth/punk rock look, which doesnt bother me at all I personally like it. However, the customers arent giving her the time of day and management is coming close to giving up on her.

The girl is actually very pretty... She had waist length jet black hair (which she constantly oils) blue eyes and pale skin.

My question is what colors as far as eyeshadow can I put on her to make her eyes pop? Also she says the reason she places oil in her hair is because it never completly dries (I dont understand, but whatever.) so I am bringing in a blow dryer and a round brush to do her hair. If any of you ladies could help me out Id deeply apprieciate it. Im great at doing make-up but my eyes are a different color and I want to make her look even better than me. Also any ideas about giving the girl a tan without the sun, the tanning bed, or streaks. Thanks.

Does she have a flat-iron? I know a dancer with glossed straight black hair and she looks great. Or curls would "dress" her look up, make her look softer and more Romantic.
Blush would be a great contrast on her face, with dark hair and pale skin. I suggest glitter/ irridescent blues and greens for her eyeshadow and liners. Have her buy a multi-shade compact of shadow and she can experiment.
Instead of her having a rough, edgy look, she should invest in some rich looking dresses and gowns.....men do appreciate the presentation and she can have a Mortica Addams-type style that will please her Goth desires.

Her hair is naturally straight, I mean stick staight, but it is pretty (it would be even prettier without the baby oil in it.) I guess I will bring a flat iron just in case. I have a curling iron and one of those triple barrel irons. I will definitley mention to her about investing some better outfits.

Tell her to try Aussie Hair Products instead of baby oil. They are priced between 3-5 bucks for a big can/tube of mousse or conditioner and the effect is great. (Aussie Dual Personality Mousee + Leave-In Conditioner smells like Estee Lauder perfume and glosses hair without an oily effect.)
She can also get a local seamstress to make gowns and robes for her for half the cost of the wardrobe lady/ costume shop, and custom made to boot.
I am kind of a slacker at the dressing-up at work aspect, but I now realize men secretly expect dancers to be the fetishy fantasy girl they see in pictures.

One thing i noticed when i coloured my hair very dark, almost black was the liner i used around my eyes. My eyes are blue, and i have very light skin, so black liner rimmed around my eyes made them pop out!! The liner matched my hair colour, which for me was a great contrast. I don't wear much make-up, but i keep my lips a pale pink most the time with gloss over it!!!

Maybe other ladies here can help with colour for the eyes. But i do love the smokey eye look in dark black liner if the hair is dark and the eyes blue.

As for her hair i would just wash, condition (no oil) and blow it out...Add some volume to it. Maybe big heat rollers may help! Or have her braid it in 4 seperate damp braids, take them out the next morning and fluff the hair up!!

    I love that look.

    Good luck,

    Pamela

I love purple eye makeup! And it looks good with blue eyes. Sometimes I'll do a purple shadow on lids with black liner and silver shiny shadow on browbone for a vampy look that's not over the top. Occasionally I'll do a purple all around, use the shadow for liner as well so it's all same color, then just use a lighter shinier shade on browbone and dark mascara. I like to do a kinda catty eye look, not waaaay pointy on sides but extended outside the eyes a bit. You can get a way with some pretty heavy eyemakeup under club lights without looking too goth. Just stay away from heavy all-black.

Also, choose ONE feature and accentuate that heaviest - either eyes or lips. Then use minimal stuff on the other. Sounds like you want to do her eyes up more, so go easy on the lips. I just use tinted shiny gloss on my lips cuz I do up the eyes. Looks kinda glam but not overdone.

Hair: mine is long, just below waist and naturally very straight. I just let it air dry while doing makeup, dressing, etc, then simply brush it as the last thing I do in the primp routine. It looks soft and stays healthier. Irons and blowdryers do too much damage! I only blowdry my bangs (just takes a sec cuz it's already pretty much dry) just to shape them up. If her hair is long, straight and pretty naturally, it really doesn't NEED all that styling to look nice. Mine is MUCH nicer without the heat-styling - less damage so less to cover up.

A hairstylist once told me (and I've found it to be the best hair advice I ever got): the more you do to your hair, the more you'll HAVE to do to it to make it look good. Leave it as natural as possible and it will be healthier - healthy hair ALWAYS looks better.

I have very light blue eyes and I never use blue or lavender eyeshadow. Every makeup artist I have ever worked with has said that blue eyes need a backdrop of pinks, taupes, or browns to make them REALLY pop. Otherwise the eyecolor gets lost in the background color and the eye looks mushy. I do rim with black (brown for civilian stuff) and put a litle white around the eye corner near my nose and under the eye at the far corner. I often use my rouge as a base eye shadow, with dark brown in the fold.

give her smokey brown and rose eyeshadows to make her eyes look even more blue, and long feathery lashes. put pale rose on her cheeks and get some shimmer highlight to put on the cheekbones, right under her eyebrows, and another places the light should hit first. give her soft, rosey, full lips.

So, how did the makeover turn out? Did she make any permanent changes?

Brown eye shadow - dark, dark chocolate brown, just a touch of it in the corners. same sort of liner, only on the top lid of the eye. Will give her a sort of retro look. Very sexy... false eyelashes.. if your willing to go that route and a petal pink color for her blush. Just a touch.

Lip liner in a pink or even a nude color and clear gloss.

For a revved up sexy look, black liquid eye liner and some black eye shadow, just in the corners to make her eyes look smoky. mascara or lashes, whichever your preference is and lastly one of those eighteen hour, wont come off, red lipsticks. Once again with her coloring it will look classic and very sexy.

    Hope this helps.

As a pale goth chick with black hair I have to say... NO BLUSH. Egads. If she is really super pale, especially. She'll end up looking like a hooker ala 1985.

    *shudders*

With pale skin she can really do any eye shadow colors she likes, even to go with her attire. Cool colors WILL look nice with the dark hair and blue eyes, but warm colors dont need to be counted out.

Plain black liner cant hurt either.

That's an image of me with just the black liner. Keep in mind that I dont have blue eyes, but it works fine for blue eyes too.

Or maybe you can try to emulate Amy Lee. She's a hot pale chick with the right hair and eye coloration.

The makeover turned out ... well everyone else like it, she didnt feel comfortable. I mean all in all you have to love what you see in the mirror, if you do not like it it will show through clearly.
Besides, I later realized the fact that she wasnt making any money as she claims had little to do with her heavy make-up, it had to do with her heavy drinking but that is a whole another issue in its self. However, she did ask me to do her make-up again, so who knows. Oh and I gave her a quality blow-dyer so that she could dry her hair throughly, she did make that permanent change. Believe me the pole and I thank her... no more baby oil in the hair.
Thanks to everyone for there suggestions and information, it really helped.
