Default Getting too tired, losing $$$

This is similar to the thread from the dancer who would walk away from money, but I am not burned out. I just seem to get to a place in my shift where I am just too tired, and my body starts aching and I just can't feel ambitious enough to keep hustling.

I think part of the problem is that at many of the clubs I work at the shifts are very long (8-10 hours) and the clubs mostly don't get busy until 11pm or later. So I've already been working my ass off for 5-6 hours when a decent amount of business finally walks in the door. I've tried just chillin' for the first 2-4 hours when it is slow, but it really goes against my nature. I also look at it as if I am not working very hard the whole time I might really be missing out on some good money. I also can't help but think what if it doesn't get busy at all tonight?? So I work hard the whole time I am there.

Unfortunately I get to a point at about 6 hours in where my body starts hurting and I have to just slow down, thereby leaving money in the guys pockets that I know I could have gotten if I had more energy.

I already do my best to eat right, get plenty of sleep, exercise, and I don't drink or do drugs. If there are other tricks out there that I don't know about any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks, XOXOXXX Paris Love

I would split it into two 4-5 hour shifts in my mind and spend some time in between just chilling and eat a protein bar.

I too work very long shifts and I think of a few things.....

    1. The person doing hard labor or flipping burgers for the same amount of time.... at least I CAN take a break wihtout telling someone, I could even have a cocktail......

    2. The fact that the next guy I run into just might make my night and I'll be damned if being pissy and tired is going to have him select someone else

    3. Each time I do make money I use that time to slow down,i.e if i've just made 100$ and the club isn't that packed I'll kind of chill out. Reason being next time I approach a customer I have a better disposition seeing as though I just made a sale and havn't gone to him after being told NO a lot of times.

Just a note: These are only helpful when the club is not very full, and while I know these are not things that will make you physically less tired or drained sometimes the brain gets in gear and the body will follow. Hope u found any of this useful!

I have the same problem Paris. When I'm at work, it ON!! Sometimes I "blow my wad" too soon with a couple of customers then am tired when the evening rush comes. I try to grab a redbull, maybe with Vodka if needed, and just keep on keepin on........

As you know I work long shifts like you do, six days of a week. I get tired too, and sometimes I just sleep most of the day. I get sluggish at work too, but in some of the clubs I work at, the better money older guys come in earlier in the evening. I lose energy and don't feel like hustling as hard at times. especially when the money is harder to get.

Going on stage a lot in these clubs gets tiring too. I have a thyroid condition which makes me more sluggish too, plus my iron and potassium is low. My muscles ache at times, at the gym and at work, and I know that is due to low levels of potassium. I take medication for it and have for years. I am anemic too.

Have you considered going to an internal medicine specialist and having your thyroid and blood checked? That could be part of your problem.

I had full blood work done a few months ago at an insurance physical. So no medical reason for me to be feeling tired and worn out. I noticed myself starting down this path about a year or year and a half ago. I think maybe my age just might be catching up with me . I never really learned to pace myself, and If I don't start making money as soon as I get to work, then I work even harder. I don't feel comfortable enough to just chill until I am at about half of my nightly goal, then I feel okay enough to relax a bit if it is still early in my shift. I actually had a night like that tonight, and it helped me to keep going strong until closing tonight.

Tina, you take care of yourself! I know it must really be tough to get through a shift with medical problems, especially when working in a smoked filled atmosphere 6 nights a week. I already had a lot of admiration for the work you do (and I know some of the crap you have to put up with in the clubs you work at), but the mental fortitude to overcome and push through despite your body wanting you to do the complete opposite is in the real of buddist monk type of mind control!

I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in blowing all my energy too early in my shift. I think I already know the solution, and it is to work shorter shifts with intensity. I also know that I should be cultivating regulars, so I don't have to stress too much about if anyone is going to come in tonight and if they will have the money to spend etc. I just don't gain as much enjoyment from the job if I have to rely on regulars. I guess it is the challenge of the hunt!

Hey I dont know if this helps but Starbucks has this blend called Kimodo Dragon. A bag of the coffee costs $12.99. BUT its worth it (made in indonesia). I put 2 scoops and 1 cup of water. I swear that stuff is just short of being legal crack.

I work at a Fast Food place so sometimes its hard to keep my energy up. I bring it to work too and drink it at 2 since I work 6+ hour shifts. But if you brought it to work you might have to bring a tooth brush because coffee breath sucks.
