    Default MY boa's surgery..WARNING

Today again My Boa who i rescued went in for a 3 hour cranail surgery. I wanted to share the pics. of Petra because some of you liked Boas.

Petra is now home resting in a large vision cage, and not looking pretty. First surgery the cut on top of the head did not properly drain, as it healed too quickly and infection set in yet again.

This time the drain tube should take care of the closing, and help proper draining. This animal has gone through hell.

I only wish i could contact the owner. This story about my snake should be in our local paper to show what happens when people don't care. (i may try for it)

Also, the owner i NEVER met, as he was gone when i picked up the snake. $845.00 later, and i hope Petra pulls through.

    Pamela.

PS picture of my baby ball Python also who was pencil thin 2 months ago, and thriving on food now! He was left in a cage with a burning light bulb on top, and a dead sibling in with him. Petie (his name) was de-wormed today.

He's a really pretty snake. I'm wishing him a speedy recovery! And hugs to you too, I know this is very hard on you.

Yea I didnt know snakes get worms either...who knew.
Everyone loves their pets as they are like children. I hope your snake feels better....good thing you rescued it too. I cant believe the living condition it was trying to live in!
you live like an ivy vine
you can only survive by clinging onto trees
    that's your flaw
put down some roots so you can stand on your own

Thanks everyone.....Today is not looking so good. But it takes time.

Petra went into shut down mode, which is common, and helps conserve energy needed. At the same time not good for two surgeries, not allowed water, or food.

So daily i have to use spray vitamins on the skin, and oral antibiotics nightly.

I'm sorry to hear about your precious snake. I'm so glad to hear thet you're willing to spend money to fix up your snake nicely. Most people wouldn't do something so kind to an animal they 'can get for $30 at a petstore anyway'. I get that excuse so many times when I see a rattie die that could've lived if it had the proper medicine. But noone wants to take a snake, a rat, a rabbit or any smaller breeds into a vet. It's depressing. So I commend you for that. I hope he starts to feel better.

    Pamela--

How did you find the snake? It seems like it must be an interesting story.

I totally agree with lillithmorgan. Once you have an animal in your care, you are responsible for it, regardless of the monetary value of the animal.

I have 2 cats that came to me for free, who now have health insurance and twice-yearly trips to the vet, and we have been known to spend expobantant amounts of money on medecine for some cheap fish from Petsmart. Hey! They are part of the family, right?

Good luck with your poor baby. Hope he gets back to normal soon!

It's horrible what people do to their pets. It would so much simpler to say "you know what, I know I'm not going to be able to give this poor little soul the attention it needs so let me not purchase/acquire him at this time", then to take it home and treat it like crap. I just adoped two kittys myself, from a rescue shelter. My husband went to pick them up after answering an ad in the paper. Unfortunately, now my baby is allergic to them and I will be giving them to my sister who I know will care for them in the manner that they deserve.
Pam those are beautiful snakes...it's so sad what they have gone through, I can't believe people would do that to them...it's very disturbing to hear this type of abuse.

Thank you for what you did helping the snake...and all animals. For a while, we had a "million dollar kitty" competition here to see which cat would cost more in medical bills...glad we're not the only ones to make that investment!

    Great snakes...keep us posted!

Ohh again thank you so much everyone!!!!

Petra was brought to me with a head scar. The people who are WHOLESALERS for pet stores in the surrounding area simply had a snake that was too big to sell. Had a scar that kinda healed but a temperment that sucked. Ok, i got a call from a reptile friend out of West Palm Bch. They brought the snake up to me, actually not the owners, as the KID said they could not make the trip. I opened the sack up and there was a Boa, who was VERY hot, and not happy. I took the snake out as you would with a hook, only my arm around the body and noticed saliva hanging....Not normal.

So i had some reptile antibiotics on hand and said i will take the snake and treat it. He said $250. No problem.

The snake was going to die, i knew this, and took a chance.

Kinda long here sorry. So, i observed the behaviour for 1 week and it was not good, mouthing the white towel in the cage, as you put them on white to look for mites and ticks for a time.

I called my Vet. Took Petra in. Petra is a MALE, not female..Did not matter, just shows their ignorance once again.

Petra has a huge serious abcess, that neede draining and watching. This was most likely caused by a large food animal or a blunt object to the head, as imported (lied again, not captive bred) snakes go through hell during the capture and transport process.

2nd surgery is the picture you see. Petra is resting and looking pretty damn good at this point!!!! But this can change anytime.

I know own a (food included) $800 and some odd cents. I don't care. Prive is never an issue.

People lying is an issue. I am no longer pissed. I can't reveal the name of the company, but i will say...My Vet. Dr. Rex Koester knows his snakes!!! He just did a Cobra.

If you need a Vet. ever Velvet he is very kind, and good. But i have a snake that is in bad shape.

However my baby is rocking!!! Sorry so fast, phone....
