Currently, I bond my hair myself. I would love to get professional poly-wax extensions, but they're way too expensive. Thinking about braids but don't wanna come across "too ethnic"What works best for you? Do you use human or synthetic?

I have weaved in the past and only used the cornrow technique. If you shop around for cheap human hair extensions, you can get a hairdresser to do it for you for a decent price. The cost of labour for my weave was ~$80 and the girl did a top class job. It was definitely worth it.
If you want braids without looking too ethnic, you could have someone do many thin braids on your hair with extension. Start braiding at root for about an inch and leave the rest as a full head of hair. Noone will be able to tell you are using extensions, it's incredibly discreet. Using this technique, you can use different styles (afro, curly, straight), lengths (short, long) and colours without damaging your own hair and you can use synthetic or human hair. Human hair looks better and lasts longer though but it needn't cost the earth. Shop around and find the labour at a good price. But remember that you get what you pay for so don't skimp on the costs too much!
You could also do cornrows on their own (Alicia Keyes). They are so hot. You can look at her pics to get ideas on different styles.
Or you could just go au naturale. You know the afro is back anyway, so experiment with it! Do a Kelis!!!
Just a few ideas. Buy some black hair magazines for more ideas.

Spice, bonding is sooooooooo unhealthy. If anything, I hope you are removing the bonding glue with bond remover?Originally Posted by tmlsuperspice
I do not think braids are to "ethnic" there are alot of beautiful braid styles to choose from. Depending on how long your hair is, you could have the braider braid a tiny bit at the scalp, then let the rest flow with hair.
I have a stocking cap weave. Basically my stylist threads the cap onto my natural hair (that is first wrapped) and then threads the hair to the cap. My hair is all natural, so it only lasts about 3 months for me...but will last longer for someone with relaxed tresses.
People of colour have some very delicate hair. Whereever you decide to go, please have a professional do it. Espcially with something like weaving. Also, make sure you condition, and clip those ends!
