    Default Burlesque

So another thread got me thinking of doing an old-school stripper show...channeling Gypsy Rose Lee or the like. I got a CD of old Burlesque show tunes...a great old fashioned gown, and feather boa. It FLOPPED. I ended up canning the whole idea after about two sets as I was making ZERO money. Anyone ever try this theme and have it actually work? I'm thinking the custys of today just don't appreciate this style anymore...... At least, in my experience.... because as soon as I canned the Burlesque and changed back into my regular skimpy stripper outfits and played my head bangin music, I started making money again....

i tryed to do real old-school burlesque once upon a time but it just dosen't work. What I do is I wear 30's,40's inspired costumes and dance to new music with an older feel.Try anything off of Golden Age of Grotesque by Marilyn Manson,The Dresden Dolls,There is alot of songs on the newest Cradle of Filth.

I've done this skit and it's worked fantastically. The trick is to pick stuff the guys might be more familiar with.

why don't you do right (the Jessica Rabbit song) kick ass version by sinead
I wanna be loved by you - also by sinead
diamonds are a girls best friend - marilyn monroe
minnie the moocher - cab calloway (guys usually dig this one)
i put a spell on you - screamin jay hawkins
hey big spender - from the fosse cd
is you is or is you ain't my baby - louis jordan (is you can recall the tom and jerry cartoon episode where tom dressed in a zoot suit and sang this song. some guys actually remember this stuff)
maybe some frank sinatra might be in order
peel me a grape - diana krall(?)

and maybe implement a chair into the dance. nothing fancy needs to be done with it. just the usual sexy stuff. i've done that and the guys never forget it. they ask when i'll be doing that again. i've acquired numerous regulars that came in to see the "show".

burlesque is my specialty and my favorite way of performing.

I don't think I'm gonna take a chance on this one again. I have a few themes that work really well for me..namely my teacher get up....So I'm not gonna pull out the old stuff again. It just did SO bad for me.

Besides, gowns don't work in my club at anytime. Guys always ask why we're so dressed up if we try to wear a gown. We're really more of a party atmosphere than an upscale environment....

    Susan!
I've been working at the Colorado and a production company called Upstage center. You are the burlesque queen! Have you gotten married yet?
