    Default Air conditioning!

Now 101 F and climbing here in south central Illinois. Your friendly Loews
home center has chineese air conditioners for $72, 600 BTU. Efficency rating
of 9.8 which is average. Also american designed chineese air conditioners from
Frigidare for $99 with EER of 10.8 which is very good. (Comment difficult control system switches.)

I bought one Saturday as a booster and its humming away. ATTENTION.

Hello from Texas, where it almost always feels like that. If I didn't have an air conditioner (which up until last week I practically didn't...it wasn't working properly), I think I would die! Why the heck are things getting so hot all over the US? I had always wanted to move more North for the nice weather in the summer, but now I'm thinking "Screw that!"

I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago...it was 101 here with about 50% humidity. Radio said that the heat index was topping at about 110.

I haven't had that kind of heat since I was in ABQ...even then it was DRY heat. This humidity is suffocating.

*crosses fingers* Hope it really rains tonight!

    Dear Deni
You would have to move to northern Minnesota say north of Braindard. There's a nice area there called Gull Lake and it was in the mid 80's yesterday. The Twin Cities won't do. I checked their temp and it was 98 yesterday. Even Door County Wisconsin, a nice resort area surrounded on water by three sides was 86 yesterday. Madison was 99. Milwaukee was 98. Pretty hot up here with lots of humidity.

Tucson just cleared a record of 38 days above 100F this weekend.

The average during our little heat wave? 106F.

Ahhhh.... thank goodness for the monsoon season.

    West Illinois...

My poor husband works outside in this Yuck. I feel so sorry for him.

Local Hospitals have opened their doors, to allow people relief. Very few have taken advantage of their generosity. (they even supplied drinks and cookies)

They should have some place for people to go at night. Trying to sleep in this heat is most uncomfortable.
I hope everyone is staying cool.

We are expecting a Thunderstorm with a Tornado Watch...

Everyone thinks minnesota is such a cold place. what people forget is we are the land of 10000 lakes, lakes are filled with water, water + High temps = humidity, humidity + high temps = even higher heat index. so this past weekend in minneapolis it was 98° + 80% humidity = 107 heat index.
at that humidity it gets hard to breath! Thank god we have so many lakes to jump into!

i think god made minnesota's temps so extreme just so they could average out to normal!

Actually people from the south think Chicago/Illinois is the artic circle. I actually moved south for the climate. (Kidding I moved here for when there were job opportunites.)

So Minnesota is colder than Wisconsin by a bit, and Wisconsin is colder than Illinois by a bit.

We're down to about 83 at noon with rain so all is well. The hot weather is moving
    east.

Bless AC. Spent the weekend indoors--even had a charming dinner party Sunday night. Also the movie theaters are chilly & lovey; I saw "Charlie" on Sat. at mid day. I didn't venture down to Lake Michigan this weekend & I wonder if the temps were tolerable. Oh, we've only had three, heat-related deaths, according to news reports. Thats far, far better than the 400 people who perished nine (?) years ago.

Southwest Louisiana here. Checking in at about 95 or 96 degrees plus humidity. And the other morning, about 5 a.m., the fam and I were awakened by billows of smoke throught the house. Our A/C shorted out and was about 2 minutes from burning our house down. Thank god it rained all that day and we didn't suffocate while we got it fixed.
