Default What convinced you to strip?

Who brought up the idea for you to strip?
How did (s)he run the idea across to you?
Did you reject it at first? (I suppose the answer is yes, but please elaborate.)
How long did it take for you to decide you want to go ahead with it?
What were your reasons for doing it? (I suppose the answer is money, but please elaborate.)

    Thank you!

My GF began stripping the day she turned 18, and had always been harassing me to try it - for over a year, actually. I always put her off, thinking I didn't want to deal with all the BS that went along with it (or what I perceived it to be). I admit that I had many of the pre-conceived notions about what kinds of girls were strippers, even though I knew my GF did not fit that stereotype.

Anyway, she finally convinced me to go to see her dance, and she got everyone in the club to shout and holler for me to go up and dance with her. When I did, the place went crazy, and the manager offered me a job. I loved the reaction of the crowd and how empowering it felt, so I figured I'd try it for a while to see if I could do it. That was last Septermber, and I'm still dancing.

As much as I like the money, that is not my primary reason for dancing. I happen to enjoy the effect I have on people, I get to set my own schedule pretty much, I like being able to work 3 or 4 days a week and pay my own way through school, pay for my own car, etc. It is more of a combination of being able to have the flexability to do what I want when I want.

BabyDolls had a Help Wanted Ad in the Sunday paper....

"$500-1500 per week cash, no experience needed, will train"

I figured I'd check it out..... I had never even seen another woman naked till then.

I came up woth the idea for myself after going to stripclubs a few times to party with some friends. One day I realized that I was very unhappy with my job and really wanted to go to school as a full time cosmetology student, unfortunately that meant I would never be able to keep up with my mortgage payments much less live a decent lifestyle while attending school 40 plus hous a week. That's when the lightbulb turned on.

I ran the idea by my best friend who said go for it. Then I ran a PG-13 version to my mom, I told her I was thinking about cocktailing in a SC. Mind you my mom was a cocktail waitress in titty bars for years as a single parent so I knew she would warn me about the dangers of the work environment and blah, blah, blah then give me her blessing. My jaw dropped when she said, "To hell with it... if it's only topless, get up on stage and make twice the money with half the effort!" A month later I was at my first audition.

That was two years ago. I start school August 15th and I'll only have to work one shift per week to keep my standard of living.

My BF took me to several bars, saw girls doing the dances. I thought I could do better.
More and more I thought about it, I got more and more curious about it.
I thought it would never be more than just one summer experience, surprised it lasted this long.
I used to be at it 6 to 8 hours a night 6 nights a week. But that was a year ago.
Now, I do it only 3 to 5 hours a night 4 nights a week and going down.
Heck, getting old, baby, plus I got a day time buisiness to run and a baby to raise.

I just couldn't deal with the peeling paint anymore, so I took out the Wagner power stripper and went at it.

Wait, are we talking about the same thing here?

^ My mom wasn't too happy when she found out, but she came to grips with it eventually.

At first, I was really into stripping, but eventually I couldn't deal with all the hassles. I mean, tarps and wire replacements and sunburns...I gave it up for vinyl siding.

    It's a tough business.

Amateur male stripper here: One of the female strippers I had a crush on talked me into it. Also, I'm a big flirt and this seemed like good opportunity to gets lots of female attention.

I decided I should be paid for all the sh*t I took from men.

Before that, sheer greed. A thousand a week? Who would say no?

I suppose the mindset of a boyfriend taking her girlfriend to a strip club will need to be started at another thread. That's a whole different topic.

From what I'm inferring, women know the existence of strip clubs. There just had to be something to trigger the thought of actually working in one, and there had to be motivation in following through with it.
... Excuse me ladies while I remove my naivety.

I like reading your stories. I hope you ladies who haven't shared your stories will do so. Thanks!

I was in college and broke. My cats were eating and I wasn't. A friend told me they were hiring bartenders there, but nope, just strippers.

I wasn't crazy about the idea b/c of all the stereotypes I had, though sadly my first club confirmed most of them.

The money was good, plus I graduated in 2001 and 9/11 fucked up most of my job prospects, so I stuck with it. The money was good and I got to travel doing it.

Couldn't get a job as a mechanic. There is some unwritten law that says women can't be mechanics. Had job at a truck stop as a waitress. No money.
Got pregnant. Had baby. Was not going to get married. Not to him.
Was at a bar, drinking my sorrows away, getting drunk, bartender asked me if I had any dancing experience. No, none, but was a gymnast in high school, that had some dancing in it. Fifteen minutes later, they threw me on stage.
And they told me dancers/strippers made good money, yeah, for the first 7 months when I stayed there, made not even squat. They were ripping me off.
Left that place, went to work someplace else. Then began to make good money.

I suppose I should thank that place for getting me a start. Yes, sir, I suppose I should.

Thank you, sir, thank you sir. and please drop dead.

I hate men. I was going through a horrible divorce with the one man I did love and was left homeless with only $300 a month in shut-up payments for not telling the military I was cheated on by a sailor. I had no kids but I had three lovely kittens that needed food and my new rent was 400 a month at the cheapest I could get. I had been joking with friends for a year that I'd leave my husband and become a stripper. Finally one day I broke. I had to do it. I had to be a stripper because it made sense. I had no preconceived notions of strippers. They're just women. I could make money like them. I spent two months studying the area for the best club. Upscale. Gown. I bought shoes with my last $60 on a credit card and practiced. No falling on my ass. I have to make it. Audition. Come with me, please, my dear friend. Hold my hand, I'm going to do it. I'm going to be a stripper.

Shady156, An option in the automotive service industry is a service writer. I've known service writers to make $30 - $40K annually. I turned wrenches for 5 years for Mazda and 1 year for Toyota. The downside is I heard that service managers do not like hiring former mechanics as service writers because they know too much and talk too much.

I do agree, however, that as a mechanic, you have to translate your vocabulary into layman's terms, so non-mechanics can understand. Also, you'll have to work on your selling. Service writers, just like anybody else in the industry are compensated based on their ability to generate revenue for the department. You already are a salesman - er, salesperson, but you'll have to adapt your skills to writing service.

The problem is that I detect that you are honest and don't like to rip people off. In order to succeed in the industry, you'll have to remove some of that honesty and care less for people (who probably don't deserve all that caring either).

lilithmorrigan, if you quit hanging out with the cute guys who are too good to be with one woman, quit denying who they really are, start listening to Dr. Laura, maybe I can help you remove some of your hatred toward men. Not all men are pigs, you know!

    Dr. Laura = reality check.

You tell yourself, I know he loves me, I know he'll ask me to marry him. (You're living with him, BTW.) 5 years later, you realize, Oh My God, he's not going to marry me! You hate him, you hate ALL men. Your good side says, I should start listening to Dr. Laura, now. But you allow your selfish side to say, Shut up, BITCH!

Your daughter is in the above scenario. What would you advise your daughter? Would it be different from what you would advise yourself?
