Default Trying to Grow Hair out

Hi everyone! I'm new here! I am trying to grow out my hair after a series of bad haircuts by my stylist. A little background info - the girl who does my hair is the sister of my best friend. I started letting her cut and highlight my hair after she finished cosmetology school. At first, she did an awesome job, cut and colored exactly the way I wanted.

Now that she has some experience, it seems that she has become "scissor-happy" and has chopped my layers the last 2 haircuts after I specifically asked her not to.

Anyway, now I have layers that are WAY too short, and I am trying to grow them out as quickly as possible. Does anyone have any products/tips/ideas on how I can make my hair grow faster? I remember reading once that certain vitamins help with hair growth, I just don't remember which ones...

Thanks for any help you can give me!

well, many of us on the board looooooove the Wal-Mart Hair pills. There is a super long thread on it but I'll be damned if I can't find it for you!

What happened to the wal-mart hair pills thread? anybody?

I had a similiar experience with too much bleach breaking my hair. Now I just lay low on the bleach and rely on hair color to bring my natural color as close to blonde as I can get it. I also started using Y serum by Nexxus. It claims to regenerate your hair to it's "baby state". I don't know how true that is but I know the stuff has really helped my hair more than anything. I also just recently bought a pair on nice scissors at Sally's beauty supply store and when I see the split ends coming I just snip the tip end of them off, maybe a millimeter. This helps breakage as well and extra trips to the beauty salons to that scissor happy stylist.

I'm growing mine out too, I regret chopping it all off. I brush a couple times a day, and pull the loose hairs out when I fiddle with my hair (in my mind, it's clearing the way for the follicle to grow a new hair.)
Some food sources for hair are gelatin and beer. Taken internally.

OK, I have heard about gelatin. My mom used to take it for her nails. She would mix the unflavored kind (yuck!) in with her orange juice. I don't think I could stomach that, but I love sugar free cherry jello.

I will definitely check out the WalMart hair pills too!
I will try to search for the thread too, if anyone else is interested.

As for the stylist, well, that's an awkward situation. I should have never had her do my hair in the first place. Now it will be weird if I suddenly stop going to her. Maybe I will give her one more chance, and STRESS not to cut my layers. I think if she did it again I would tell her to her face how upset I was! lol

    Thanks ladies!

    Biotin...

You can get it at GNC, I think most drug stores have it too.

One word......Biotin. It's the main ingredient in those walmart pills. I just bought a straight bottle of Biotin, and I've REALLY noticed that my nails are stronger and able to actually grow out for once in my life, I can only imagine how my hair is doing. (It has grown a LOT....and it's stronger so it doesn't break as easily.....ie longer hair)

Daily scalp massages!! Use your fingertips (not your nails) to really scrub at your scalp when you're shampooing...it not only get the blood circulation going (which helps hair growth) it makes sure that all "dirt" is washed off (helping to prevent clogs) and feels heavenly... *sigh*

That and Walmart Hair pills. A few months ago, I cut around 6 inches off my hair (it really needed it)...so that took my length to just under my shoulders. Right now...my hair has grown down past my shoulder blades (I would say it comes to the bottom of my bra strap). So I've pretty much grown back what I cut off. It's all about the massage and the vitamins!!

^ The pony tail must work, I knew a dancer with nice thick hair down to her butt and she always had it in a ponytail. Even at work.
Plus it's so dang hot this summer, getting your hair off your neck will cool you considerably (90 % of heat is lost through your head= from blood flow to head.)

Well, I have the hair disaster of a life time..

Last fall, my hair got caught in a FAN.. yes. you read right.. my shoulder length hair got caught and I had to layer my hair.. I bawled..

I was already taking the walmart hair pills... almost a year later, I just cut my hair, it was past my shoulders (I cut it to my shoulders because of swimming and dead ends).. I swear by these vitamins.. there is no way I would have been able to grow it out this quickly..

I LOVE the walmart hair pills. I also take biotin & fishoil. Last year I went from pitch black hair to light red, then to black and then brown again. Needless to say, I overprocessed my hair and ruined it. I had to cut it extremely short, but it's almost healthy again & it's growing out at a decent rate. You might want to check out:

Wow! Thanks everyone for the replies. I did go to Wal Mart last night and I got vitamins called "Hair, Skin, & Nails". They were the only thing I could find that sounded like hair vitamins. It does say on the bottle 3000 mcg of Biotin, and it sounds like Biotin is what works. You have to take 3 a day, which stinks for me because I HATE taking pills, but I am going to try them.

There are 120 in the bottle, so I figure that should last me a little more than a month. Hopefully by then I'll be able to see some sort of difference.

Thanks again for all of your great ideas!
