Question for all the Austin girlies!

Ok girls, I have a few questions for you. Right now I'm about an hour away from Austin, and I'm considering heading more toward the Austin area. So, here are my questions:

    1. Is the extra price on rent (compared to here) really worth it? Is Austin really that great of a place to call home (put Round Rock and other surrounding areas in this, too)?

    2. If I were going to dance in Austin (which I plan to do some time later), would I just be better off staying here and driving an hour and back? (With this question, consider this- I'd waste more on gas, but I'd pay less in rent...)

    3. Which clubs fall on the North side of Austin (and let's not stick Joy in there- I've heard some weird stuff about that place)? I have a general idea, but I'd rather work on the North side if I'm coming from the North side (a thought, but not required if a better club is situated somewhere else).

    4. Is there anything else I should know? Feel free to let me know because I've got a month and a half until my lease is up (but I can stay in my grandmother's guest house if I need to stay longer), and I'm trying to get all the information I can so I'll be able to make a good decision.

Austin is the only way I would head right now- I don't want to go to Dallas (though I wouldn't mind later in the future). Mox and I want to stay close to our families, so we don't want to get too far away. Anyway, thanks is advance for all the help! You girls are so awesome!

Considering how much gas is these days, you're probably better off living in the city than driving in unless you're only going to work once or twice a week. Plus it's a lot easier to blow off work when you're facing a long commute, trust me. And there are certainly reasonable deals to be found as long as your heart isn't set on living in a loft downtown.

The clubs far out north are Joy and Perfect 10, both of which are in Round Rock. Joy isn't that bad. Sugar's and the Yellow Rose also sort of qualify as north but are more centrally located--near Highland Mall or North Lamar. XTC, the only nude club, is where I work and is sort of northeast, but I would never in a million years recommend it to other dancers; I just happen to do well there but I think the overall skeeziness of the environment would freak out a pretty little newbie such as yourself.

You should take a night and come hit some clubs. Katrine (like how I volunteered you there?) and I would be happy to take you around to Joy, P10, the Yellow, Sugars, so you can get an idea of what you are working with.

Austin is a very easy town to work in. No licensing, no pasties or other weird laws, and fairly straightforward house fee and shift policies. It is a good place to start, I think.

Oh, yeah, and if you're an hour north of Austin aren't you in Belton or something like that? In that case the answer is OF COURSE THE EXTRA RENT IS WORTH IT! Unless you're in some posh country home with horses, a pool, and servants.

Haha...funny...you got the town EXACTLY right! LOL That's funny! The only thing is that I think I'd have major issues adjusting to "city" life- I've lived out in the country as far as I can remember (on acres of land, to be exact).

I'm just tired of being "here", ya know? It's nice, it's preacful, it's my home, but it's not a "fun" place to live. For people with kids or those that are retired- it's great! For a 20 year old who is sick of being stuck- not so great.

    Thanks for the advice, though!

Oh, and I forgot to say this...hehe...

I might have to take you guys up on that offer- later. I'm going to get me a "normal" job first, so I can have something to help me out with my degree (I'll have my Associate's in May). The good thing, though, is that I take classes online- moving and such will be no problem.

One other question (and this one will be kind of strange coming up on here, but let me explain)- do any of you have a personal trainer or know one? No, I'm not looking to get trained. Mox (my dude) is working on his certification, and we were just wondering what the job market for that kind of stuff is like. Thought I would ask you all first before finding a "trainer" website.

Also- Yes, I think I would probably be scared to death if I worked at XTC...LOL...

Hehehe, let's take her with us to Texas Ladies and the Strip, LOL!!!

Susan has said everything that needs to be said. From where you are, my club, Perfect10 would be less than one hour drive probably, you should get hired and work there for a little while to see if stripping and Austin is a good fit for you. Its a nice big club with lots of dancers but also plenty of customers.

Avoid the Champagne Room for a while unless you are sure the customer isn't a pervo. Extras do occur back there on occasion.

You can bounce around all the different Austin clubs if you get tired of one. If you go to the Rose and DK tells you not to work anywhere else, ignore him, he's a pompous ass.

Don't know if ya'll will read this or not and I actually posted it as another question on the Newbie page but I was wondering if I should change clubs and work a little closer to home at Sugars? Can ya'll share your thoughts on that club? Thanks. Oh, btw Susan, I've been to XTC a few times with friends and we always have a good time, a little skeevy maybe (you said it first), but always a good time, haha!

Sugars sucks ass for money. Its a nice club but I won't work there. Its not dirty per say, just not for me personally.

Yes, I'm bumping up an old thread, AND I'm not even a "girlie". LOL!

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that, in my own personal perspective and experience, there really isn't that much of a difference between Joy and Perfect 10. They both have large VIP rooms, little dark corners, lots of the same types of girls and even the same girls since many jump back and forth, and some of the same crazy dance specials (although Joy probably has a bit of an "edge" in that). To me, the only difference will probably be in ownership/management philosophy. Either place would probably be fine for any dancer...just a matter of which managers you'll be comfortable working with.

Last night, and early this morning I visited both clubs. I lasted two hours at Joy before I became bored out of my mind and decided to hit Perfect 10 (something I rarely do) for the first time in about a year. A few minutes after I walked in, I counted out about 7 dancers that I've seen work at Joy (including one I had just seen two weeks ago and another that...well, never mind...let's not go there in this thread).

I talked to the one I had seen two weeks ago, and her explanation for making the jump across the highway was management. She said Joy management was too uptight (which had me laughing quite a bit...I always thought they were way too laid back). She told me that the only way I could experience this, though, was to hang out in the dressing room after closing time, but that's never going to happen.

Point being, based on my personal experience...there really isn't that much different between the two clubs...it's just going to be a matter of where you feel most comfortable.

Oh, yeah, I was pretty bored with P10 as well...I really need to go back to doing the dayshift thing...night shift has become such a drag...

Uhh, AE, if Lefty is still managing Joy I can't imagine why any girl would think mgmt is too uptight, ESPECIALLY considering some of the late-night dressing room antics I used to witness there LOL!

I did well at Joy until they got too crazy with the dance specials - bringing in too many cheapass custies. After that I moved to Sugar's and did much better, best money I'd ever made in Austin.

To answer the question of whether the extra rent to live in Austin is worth it: A big fat resounding YES YES YES! Austin is a great place to live! And, you can get some decent deals there like Susan said. I rented a large guesthouse in Rosedale from a nice older lady for $600/month, all utilities included. Not bad.

Thanks for your thoughts, Bridgette! I plan to move that way sometime in the future, but I won't say exactly when because I'm not sure!

I know...that's why I had a bit of a problem with the whole "uptight" explanation that particular dancer gave me...as for Lefty...well, that's a whole other story. My info on him is a bit out of date, though, so I probably shouldn't elaborate publicly...although if you're interested I could tell you what little I know via PM.
