    Default hair color question

My hair is in DESPERATE need to be redone. But my hairstylist can't see me for another 3 weeks. I can't wait that long. And there is no other good place near me, I trust her with my hair. But since i have alot of important things coming up in the next few weeks, do you think i could just color my hair at home? I'd have a friend do it b/c i don't want to mess it up. I wouldn't be going drastic just a honey blonde like i already am. I've heard horror stories about the hair changing colors, and i don't need that happening. I just can't go to a wedding with my roots lookin the way they do.

i need advice!! And if i do the @ home, what brands are the best?

Well...all of my forays into the world of home-hair coloring have turned out to be disasters, so I would advise against it. I never got the color right - once I bleached my hair almost white, another time I dyed it what I thought was going to be a dark blonde but turned out to look grayish-greenish-brown. My natural color is golden/honey blonde.

Can the salon put you on a waiting list for any cancellations? My salon will do this if they are booked when you need an appt.

If you do try the at home coloring, definitely do the patch test first on a piece of hair in the back of your head where nobody can see. Maybe have a friend help you so you get the timing right.

Yes i'm on the waiting list but there are people on it ahead of me.(I can normally call in and get in that week but i forgot about all the weddings coming up) The salon is very busy and is the best one around where i live. So i could go to another salon but i'd rather not. Not sure if i want to do the at-home b/c i don't want my hair to turn a crazy color. but i'm getting desperate

If you go with Loreal or any other product, make sure they have a toll free number. Call it! They will help you pick the colour right for you're roots. I have gone from light black back to light blonde in three weeks time!!! And more than once. I use Loreal. BUT...never go over the hair that is already coloured, and please if you need to do this at home...Call for a colour that is going to match.

Again, many here have had hair mishaps...So maybe another salon????

    Good luck,

Forget those little boxes of color in the supermarket and get thee to Sally's Beauty Supply! They supply the professionals.

When I color at home I go with two bottles of MegaRed in Golden Copper (hair almost to my bum, need an extra bottle). That brand has a MegaBlond as well. I've been using this line for two years and it's always worked beautifully. Even my stylist says my color is perfect. Of course, I'm a redhead anyway so I'm not actually changing the color that much.

If your natural shade is close to a honey blond then get the 20 developer. If your hair isn't anywhere near honey blond then get the 40 developer. 30 developer is for all colors inbetween.

For me, it's a toss-up whether home or stylist is best for coloring. The stylist's color is easier on my hair; at home, I get a better color.

it's better to go to a salon, even a new one, than to do it yourself if you're not experienced. i've had way to many disasters with at home colouring, and everyone i've talked to has had atleast one of the same experiences. at least if the salon screws up, they can fix it.

My hair is fairly long and sooo thick I can only afford the lovely salon highlights 3 or 4 times a year, but I touch my roots up in between with L'Oreal Feria. I've been doing my own hair dying up to this point since I was fifteen, so I have some idea what works, but this self/ salon team combo is really the best I've had so far (financially and aesthetically). I have to say, if it's only the roots I do myself, the worst I've had happen (touch wood) is a bit brassier a colour than usual, and that's easily fixed when I get the highlights.
