    Default secondhand smoke- ugh

This morning I woke up feeling like complete crap- again. It was a smoky night in our club last night and I spent 7 hours breathing those toxins in.

I know, I know. If the club were nonsmoking, we'd lose customers. We are one of two strip clubs in the area, and the other allows smoking, too. I don't want to lose business to that club. I don't want the stupid customers to stop coming in because they can't smoke and then sit in that filth. God forbid they stop putting others' health at risk because of their rights, after all. But this is ridiculous.

Am I crazy, or did I read somewhere on SW that there is some sort of supplement you can take after being exposed to secondhand smoke? I know nothing can help the damage that is done to your lungs, but I could swear I read something about some kind of vitamin on here. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

Smokers, please forgive my pissy attitude today. This just sucks because I love my job, but I'm trying to be healthy, and waking up almost every morning for 14 months with a hangover and a cough is starting to get to me.

ugh. i know how you feel. why don't you try taking a few 10 min breaks outside w/ someone to breathe some fresh air when it's slow. I've been doing that and it helps a lot.

I KNOW how you feel! Being an ex-smoker, I'm super-sensitive. I was pretty sick last week from second hand smoke exposure. Blech.

Reformed Smoker here as well - and I feel you, the smoke is nasty - and besides my health (lungs, throat) I'm sure it also wrecks havac on my costumes, skin and hair.

I did find a supplement at my natural food store and it's called Super Critical Antioxidants. The lady said it used to be called Smokescreen but they changed it to market it to all around pollutants. The ingredients are mainly Tumeric and Green tea (?) so I don't know how helpfull they can really be, but I'm willing to try anything.

And I know lots of people would disagree but I say, ban smoking in bars and restaurants. I mean why not? I read study after study about the monetary effects that ban had on California establishments and they literally saw no impact whatsoever. And really that makes sense. I used to smoke and if I still did, I can't see not going out versus being able to smoke indoors any kind of real issue.

And I'm really not fanatical, but it seems silly to allow something unhealthy that is SO intrusive on an environment.

I can't stand it and dancers spend way more time in the club than I do. It seems most of the dancers, smoke too, so what can you do?

ugh.... smoke gives me migraines, but to be a dancer, i'm just going to have to learn to deal with it. i'll try the antioxidant stuff, and keep working with my neurologist, i suppose. also, i'm an herbalist, and what i've heard help are green tea (drink the tea made from the whole fresh leaf- lipton sells it in the gorcer's all over the place, but you can probably get better stuff at a natural foods store or herbal shop. you can brew it at home and drink it as iced tea from a bottle.) vitamin E (this is also good for skin, hair and nails, which are damaged by smoke), and eating lots of carrots. also, anything with vitamin C, such as rose hips and raspberry leaf, is good. raspberry leaf is also called "women's tea" because it helps regulate menstrual flow, pretty much makes cramps vanish, dissolves pms, and is even safe for pregnant and nursing women, or young babies. you can't take too much.

I personally just drink beverages that are high in antioxidants whilst at work -- for instance, red wine (if it must be alcoholic) otherwise I stick with tea, green tea and/or my cranberry/goji mix drink.

This helps me cleanse my system (as such) of the smoke and not wake up feeling

As for banning smoking... smoking is already banned wherever/whenever food is served as well as one third of all pubs, clubs and bars must be non-smoking. The state gov't here (QLD) is thinking of eventually doing a complete ban on smoking in all pubs, clubs and bars.

I actually like the one third rule as it has cut back on the amount of smoke in a bar/pub/club... and therefore allowing us non-smokers to go to an area that isn't drenched with it (due to people smoking in that area).
