Default Jaw Surgery and my face

I had surgery this morning to place "spacers" in my jaw bone.. can I just say OWWWWWWWW???

Great diet plan if you need to lose weight.. although, I'm wondering how I'm going to maintain my weight (I'm 115) with six weeks of my jaw wired shut..

BTW.. they do this by opening your mouth open and making all their incisions INSIDE your mouth, your teeth hurt, your head feels like its been squeezed like a little bug, oh, and you think puffiness from wisdom teeth removal is bad? I look like a balloon in the face and I'm to expect bruising.. black and blue they told me..

I'm so thirsty right now, and every time room temperature water hits my mouth it sends a surge of pain throughout my entire body..

Anyways, I needed to bitch. THe pay off will be great though.. this was not done for cosmetic reasons (my jaw started going out of alignment a few years ago due to my wisdom teeth causing a "Shift") but, it is considered cosmetic.. with the spacers in place, I will have a very nice jawline when this is all over with..then, I get braces.. I get to relive the horror of braces in my 30's... ( and SW doesn't have a "Metal mouth" smiley???)

I really feel for you . I had my 4 wisdom removed 2 weeks ago and i thought that was painful. Just make sure you're hydrated..can you use a straw? those painkillers help.. Get a lot of rest. Good Luck!

THis makes wisdom teeth removal feel pleasant.. and yes, when my wisdom teeth were out, I thought I was going to seriously die due to the pain.. This, I can't even explain other than right now, I'm really drugged up and I can still feel it.. so I don't know if I want to let anything wear off soon..

Aww I hope this goes well and you turn out great. Youll still be sexy even with braces....no worries. Six weeks is a long time I hope they gave you enough pain meds to keep you happy. Eat protein shakes when you are up to it to mantain your wieght.

Oh no! Hope you feel better, take those painkillers!

So this surgery will re-align the jaw and make it more symetrical on both sides? Because my jaw got out of alignment when I had some dental work done around puberty, and looks different on both sides. Is this the correct operation to fix it?

    Kat:

Yes.. this is the surgery needed to fix it.. although, I was having medical problems from it being out of alignment.. it was so out of alignment that my jaw would "Pop" and very painfully POP.. they thought at first it was TMJ, and it wasn't until I went to get my wisdom teeth out and did xrays that they figured out the problem..

You couldn't tell that it was out of alignment with a first glance, but it shifted my teeth in a manner that created a lot of crowding and an overbite again..

My surgeon told me that I will be thrilled with how much better I will feel- I had been suffering from sinus infections and migraine headaches as well.. a lot of people don't realize that teeth can cause those things.. my teeth are extremely healthy, but I am still worried.. I don't understand how your teeth can "just move around" and not fall out.. LOL.. but I was told this is quite common..

I used to have a really nice jawline- very asymetrical.. it gradually changed the shape of my face over time with my jaw being out of alignment, my face appeared "fuller" when I look back at pictures, I had more of a heart shaped and over time it became more oval in the jaw region.. so this will be awesome when it is all done..

I'm sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. Just make sure you stock up on pain killers and vibrators (hey...you have a lot of time to kill).

I got my teeth out on the 7th and although painful at first...it quickly subsided and I'm well on my way to recovery. You won't be the only metal mouth around here...I find out on August 10th if I am a candidate for Invisalign...otherwise, I'll be getting the clears.

    Hope you feel better fast!!

Oh, and baby food worked good, too. It's easy to work with.

Tryout Ensure or Boost. They have alot of the vitiams that you would be recieving from food. I drank Ensure in Vanilla while my jaws were wired shut. P.s. I was in a car accident

my lips are so damn swollen and even a straw hurts to suck anything thru.. I give up today and oh yeah, things have started to wear off.. I feel as if I have been completely sawed in half.. I don't think I have ENOUGH drugs to get me thru the next few days..

    Kryssy:

How did you get thru the time with yours being wired? How did you manage brushing your teeth and just TALKING? And, is it suppose to feel so tight like if you even turn your head wrong that it feels like things are going to disinegrate?

Oh shit this is scaring me. I have a popping in my left side of my jaw when I open my mouth a certain way and a I have tons of sinus problems. I had a friend a while back who had BAD TMJ and had to have extensive surgery and what she went through was awful so I really feel for you. At least you got it done and hopefully you'll be feeling a lot better in the long run.

Now I feel like an ass for whining about my wisdom teeth being taken out yesterday. It just hurts so f*ing bad. My shoulder surgery hurt a lot less and I had a tack and some wire nailed into it.

Are you eligible for Invisalign? Those are the clear braces. I am eligible, but they are friggin expensive!

^ Don't know who you are asking, but...

I'm getting my braces done at the local dental school. My oral surgery cost my $739 for surgically removing all 4 wisdom teeth...and that was the price for anesthesia. For the local oral surgeon, I was quoted an "average of $1,000 per tooth." That did NOT include the anesthsia costs.

For my braces, traditional metal braces are $3,200...clears are $3,400 and Invisalign is $3,800. The Invisalign dentist down the street from me charges $7,000 for the stuff.

I'm so glad I heard about the dental school.

Maybe y'all should try looking for a dental school around you...procedures take much longer...but the cost is so much more bearable.

    VG- That is INSANE!

total cost when I had just my wisdom teeth removed was 1283 with me paying only 20% (I have dental insurance thru hubby)- the 1283 was for everything including anthesia.

In regards to braces, I have no idea what they will do for me.. I get through this and then they unwire me and then I wait for about a week and go and have my braces done.. I'd love to have the invisaligns, but I think my case rules those out.

Yesterday's surgery, I have no idea how much it will be.. all I know is that everything wore off around 3 am and I woke up wanting to scream, then of course I became nauseated and my body wanted to throw up, cant very well do that with your jaw wired shut (sorry for so much detail)... I honestly feel like I am going to die.. I think at this point that feels like the only option, I have never hurt so damn bad in my life.. and I know I need to get something on my stomach, but I can't seem to try again, I tried yesterday and anything (even at room temperature) sent an electrifying shock of pain thru my body..

My head hurts, my eyes hurt, and my nose hurts, I'm sorry for whining.

Are you able to take your pain meds with your mouth wired? that was how I survived the widsom teeth...I just kept myself doped up and slept 3 days straight and was fine.

everything is in a liquid form.. and I've taken my dosages of the pain meds.. it still hurts... I finally got some ensure down, but it was a valiant effort to keep it down.. I'll try some chicken broth a bit later..

they did give me some anti nausea stuff too, but I don't think it works..

And Wisdom teeth do hurt.. a friend of mine just had hers done yesterday, so we're both laid up.. thank god for Yahoo messenger.. LOL.....I told her to have her husband come and pick me up and we'd recouperate together.. she said, "I love you (insert real name here), but not THAT much!" LOL....

Ahh.. its worth it.. just a baby I am.

Well, I don't have insurance...so it was all going to be out-of-pocket, anyways. It was a deal...and they did a really fantastic job.

Did you have all 4 wisdom teeth surgically removed and how long ago was it?

VG- I had it done a month ago.. technically, I was suppose to wait at least three months for this surgery I just had.. but, I healed fairly well and I really wanted to get it all done without a whole lot of wait, originally, I was going to have all of them pulled and get this surgery all in one, but decided after much persuasion to do them separately. Since my hubby is gone, I figured now was as good as time as any..

But to update, I feel much better today.. I actually took a shower and was able to get up and walk around a bit.. hopefully by mid week I'll be able to go to work..
