    Default Abdominal Shapes

Ive been reading alot of articles and trying to do some research on this topic. Have you ever noticed how some mens and womens abs are different shapes? Some abs petrude or flat or are all ripply. There are all different kinds.

How do all these different men and women get abs to those different shapes? I was thinking it was genetics and the way your body is shaped but as I was reading I thought it would be more the way they train. Im shooting for a flat stomach myself and wonder if this is even possible due to the shape of my body or the way I train. Last thing I want to end up with is big man ripply abs.

When you find the answer to this, let me know. I was wondering the same thing myself!

Hey TigersMilk, didn't you have a picture of your abs in an old avatar of yours? That belly looks good enough to me! It IS flat! I think a lot has to do with genetics.

It depends on your diet and excercise along with genetics -- just as long as you don't over do your ab work out and focus on other body parts then you should stay with a flat stomach, it would take alot of hard workings to geta 6 pack.
Running would be a good excercise since it'tll work your whole body but won't get the muscely look.

Well I'm no expert, but I can tell you my experience. I used to be a lot bigger and had a flabby belly, I lost a lot of weight and had a flat but still flabby belly (it was flat and smaller but still soft and cushy). I started to work on my abs and gained 2 inches on my belly (from a 25" waist to a 27" waist) but it's firm now with a little definition. I still look slim and in shape even though I'm a little bigger around the waist, just because I don't have that extra fat on the pot-area, it's all firm there now. I WISH I had a 6 pack! Those take a lot of work and I commend any woman who has the dedication and strength to achieve one! They look hot to me!

It's genes. I have an untoned 6-pack which I don't like. I wish it was flat and smooth.

Genetics is a big part of the issue--due to body composition and ratio variables--and diet is an equally important aspect.

Your training methodology is significant as well; if you're doing work to bulk your abs rather than define them, you could conceiveably find yourself with big man abs.

Two relevant books I recommend for the ladies here: The Body Sculpting Bible for Women and Body Sculpting Bible for Abs: Women's Edition

^^Thanks CO I was looking for that 2nd book. Ive read the 1st one and it was very helpful to me. Right now all my abs work has no resistance. Ive heard resistance can increase your waist width = man abs. So, its basically captain's chair, bicycle kicks, roman ab board and occasional crunches on ball. Thanks who all responded...Im sorta fascinated with everyones stomachs and how ab ripply or flat they are.

Well if that's the case then here's a pic of my belly. It's unfortunately not too ripply. I do the resistance training with weights for my belly and I don't think I'm anywher near man-abs. I don't think you can get man-abs unless you are a man or take testosterone. But what do I know.

I have a flat tummy now cos I stopped drinking. I also do pilates. STOP DRINKING REGULARLY! The yeast sticks to your ribs and makes ya bloated, I promise.

I buy Oxygen mag. from time to time and some of those ladies...Um ewww. It's too much, the issue i am looking at right now that has many ladies with rippled abs is the Feb. 2004 mag. That's just too much. Again alot of these ladies do fitness competetions, so if you want to know their secrets, they always have ladies showing how to get that "six pack look."

    ^ I hear that Pamela.

Shape Magazine is probably my favorite supermarket porn rag; those chicks have simply amazing bodies.

Good advice... but besides the traditional crunches, eating right, cardio cardio cardio, try flexing and holding your stomach muscles throughout the day - you know, like you're trying to show them off. It's any easy way to progressively tighten and tone your abs. (now, if you look constipated when you do this, then you're doing something wrong )

Of course, this alone doesn't do the trick, but it can help you tighten up when you're normally just sittin' around

What's that weird bulge? The one on the right? You look like a furry little slut.
