Pilates!
What's wrong w/ crunches?
Maybe you just don't like the standard form? Or do you have an injury that prevents you form performing them?
Check out these 3 crunch variations.

Drink more water! Increase your fiber intake.... both keep my tummy at bay. Also to get the most bang for your buck, when you do cruches, do them on a decline bench....
A tummy or pooch is also from too much fat in your diet.
Clean up your diet. You should not be intaking more than 50 grams of fat...PER DAY. I guarantee that if you clean your diet up a bit more, that will start to just fall off.

Oh yea a clean diet helps more than anything.....of course thats only 80%. When I started my diet lifestyle change (still perefecting it) I gave up bagels, cereal, pasta and other high carby things. Of course those are good for you but all in moderation. Eating too much of one thing can lead to the gaining of weight. Bagels, cereal and pasta I think are better in smaller portions is eaten at all.
Anyways..Ive found that bicycle kicks, captains chair and crunches on the ball work best. Also maybe try roman chair.

You've got to do a bunch of aerobic activity as well as the pilates/crunch stuff. Because crunches will tone your muscles but won't get rid of any fat that is over them. So I'd probaby suggest running or swimming or any excersize that really makes you sweat a lot. Damn it, this thread reminded me of how long it's been since I've worked out....
I'm confused, but the Chewbacca Truffle Shuffle cleared it up. - Emily
crunches just firm up, but doesn't get rid of the fat
you really need to change your diet, like Venus says
I am doing a diet plan that really made a difference on my belly fat.
7 days ago I started with a 2-day juice fast (and protein drinks)....approx 1200 cals
then for the past 5-days I've been eating approx 1300-1500 cals with JUST lean protein (tuna, chicken breast, egg whites, protein drinks), vegetables (no regular potatoes or corn) and fruit (choose the kind that has fiber in it like blueberries, apples, plums, etc.)... no sugar or salt.
so now a week later, such a HUGE difference in my belly
You need to keep as much "hot" blood in your abs as possible. Do full range ab work. Like V-ups, hip lifts, and such. Also, don't be afraid to buy one of those ab wheels. NOT ab "roller". These are small wheels that have a handle on either side. You get on your knees and roll out as far as you can, then using ab strength, roll back up to what amounts to "doggie-style". Those fuckers work your abs like nothing else!

Ladies, no matter how many crunches you do, or what ab routine you try, you are just spinning your tires. Take it from me.
You want those nice abs, and that "thin skin"?
Cardio.
Do at least 30- 40 minutes a day, with a quick ab workout every day or even every other day, and thank me later.
If you like more details on diet an utrition le tme know.
Before i train for a show, Im doing cardio every day, twice a day. My ab workout lasts a HOT 10 minutes.. lol..its all in the cardio and diet. We all have abs, they ar ejus thiding under the fat![]()
I agrre you must do cardio. I am climbing steps many times a day also step machine and bycycle 40 km everyday.
I know girlfriends who can do many sit up but do not have flat gut.
You must jog if you can (i can't) so I do stepping and riding until I am so tired and legs are burning.
God luck darling.
My trainer always tells everyone who asks her about getting rid of their tummy that it's all in the diet and not as much as the crunches. Seems to have worked for her so I listen to her!

Bunny is right, the one thing that you can make in the kitchen besides food, is a great core/set of abs. Great abs are about 90% cardio and diet. You should do about 30-45 minutes of high intensity cardio at least 4-5 times a week.

In most cases, to see that much wanted "six-pack", and I mean ALL six, you need to be below 10% bodyfat!

You cannot spot reduce; fat is spread in a layer over your body.
VG and Emily are right; it's about your diet, diet, diet. Cut out the processed crap and start pounding water and lean proteins.

I don't get it. When i go hard at crunches i will get a flatter stomache! Is that not spot training. I don't walk more or increase any other activity....Just crunches???
Pamela
Diet, aerobic exercise and crunches all play a role in getting your abs fit.
Another factor is continuous proper posture. It's one of the most passive, yet effective ways to keep toned abs in shape - It basically works on the principle of "belly in, chest out, shoulders back". Standing sideways in front of mirror, stretch your abs up starting from the muscles just above your pelvic region, and lift your entire torso upwards (using only the muscles in your abs). Your entire ab region will flatten and you will feel the burn almost instantly, depending on your fitness level.
The good thing about this exercise is that it can be done sitting down, standing up, walking or even running. Plus, you'll start getting comments about your good posture.

Spot toning will get you spot specific results (although doing all crunches and no lower back work is a big no-no...)Originally Posted by Pamela
However, you cannot eat a fat-filled diet and then have a layer of fat over your abs and expect to have a popping six-pack. And, you cannot "lose weight/fat" on your abs or legs or wherever and leave everything else the same. It's simply not possible.
You may notice more results in the body parts that you are concentrating on...but your full body will change...not JUST those parts.

Walk as much as possible! When I lived in France, I did not have a car, did not work out, but I had to walk EVERYWHERE and up TONS of stairs.....and there wasnt much fast food where I lived. I ate mostly fish, pasta (yep!), rice, baguettes(yesp, more carbs), coffee, tea and chicken every once in awhile. I was so tiny when I came back....I'm 5'5 and was about 115 , which is actually really skinny on me because of my body type and muscle mass from running track in first few yrs of college. When I came back, people were like...whoaa....My avatar shows what I looked like when I came back. I think cutting out fast food, fries, and unnecessary salt ad sugar from your diet will help stop the pooch. I am fighting a small tummy now being back in the States because I practically *live* in my car and dont make time for the gym....LA is not a walkable city....(tears!!!)
