Default To pole or not to pole

That is the question. I personally love pole work. But it certainly comes with risks and takes alot of energy and learning. At the clubs I have been to, of course there is always a pole, but maybe 10% of girls actually use it.

Why did you choose to do pole work or why not, just curious?

PS: Other than the usual acrobatics, the most unique pole trick I saw recently was this dancer would bend at the knees, one hand on the pole high, one low, both arms fully extended. She then rotates slowly around the pole barely lifting her feet, and occassionally every so slightly lifts her feet off the ground like maye 1 inch. Sounds kida dull but when you see it, it looks like she is floating, like a magic trick cause nothing moves but her feet lift off the ground. Kinda werid when I first saw it, now it mesmorizes me.

I learned a few tricks because I think it looks cool. It's also a great way for me to entertain myself when It's slow...

I just thuoght they looked bad ass and HAD to learn them. Now, I'm a pole monkey..my stage sets are almost all pole tricks, interspersed with floor work. I'd say almost all the girls in my club work the pole. We each have our own little trick that's different, so it's not different girls doing the same damn tricks all night.

My signature move is this...we have a big horizontal bar that runs above the tip rail. I grab the pole and hike my legs up, wrap my knees around the pole, and swing upside down...hitting the side pole for momentum....then I swing up and grab the pole with my right hand, and let my right leg down, so I'm hanging by one hand/one leg, and arch my back...and glance down at the custys and blow them a kiss. They love it, because I'm literally right above their heads....

But for me, the pole tricks are just FUN! I LOVE doing them....and I've found they usually help me get more tips on stage. Especially when I'm in a whacked out pole position and make killer eye contact.

This may vary in different parts of the country, but strictly from a money perspective, I don't think it's worth the time or the risk. Yeah, a few guys may tip you an extra dollor or two, big deal. Now, I love watching girls do pole tricks, I think it adds to the overall fun atmosphere of the club. But I'm the sole support for my son and me. If I got hurt doing some fancy pole trick, we would be in bad shape. I'm not doing anything too risky for a few extra dollars on stage.

I agree that you're stage $$$ isn't greatly affected by whether or not you can do a couple of tricks. My club has eight stages but only 2 of them even have poles. Those two stages happen to be in areas of the club which don't aren't the most high profile so it's rare that anyone will really be paying attention to your tricks.

However, we do have 5 pole tables that run down the center of my club, another one by the main stage, and yet another by the private dance area. These are all highly visible areas. If there's a party of four or more sitting at these tables, I can usually convice them to give me twenty bucks to jump up there for a song. If it's slow I'll jump up and do a trick while passing by just to get exposure and attention. Either way, I get noticed by customers and project the image of being high energy and enthusiastic even when the club isn't jumping. That does help me make more $$$.

i haven't yet started dancing, but i do plan on investing quite a deal of time into learning pole work. why? because it's beautiful, interesting, challenging, and it seems like a lot of fun. also, i have health insurance which my mother pays for, am not supporting a family, and really only interested in dancing for the fun of it, as well as for putting money away for a rainy day and financing my shopping habit and my love for exotic pets. so it won't negatively affect my life or that of others very much if i do get injured (aside from the pain, of course) and have to take a few months off.... i'm not sure if my decision would be different if i were paying for education, rent, etc.... i probably would only want to do a few pole tricks, especially if i didn't have a good insurance plan. they're good for variation, and interest in the routine.

We have these fat crucifix like poles that are really limiting on what you can do. I usually jump onto the cross at the top and hang upside down like a monkey while I take my top off. Ppl seem to like that even though its really easy. In general, doing pole work doesn't make an iota of difference in regards to earnings though. Guys have seen it all and are bored by now.....

Pole work is just fun. Besides when you are one of the few girls that does pole tricks...it makes you stand out. May not make you any more money...but it does get people's attention.

    I love pole tricks...

For me, I do see a big difference in my tips if I do pole tricks compared to when I'm tired or sore and don't do them. Especially if I'm not getting my $5 to strip, I'll whip out a pole trick and get my money almost immediately. And if we're packed, I do REALLY well on stage with my tricks, compared to the girls who just prance and pose.

BUT if I'm sore or just not in the mood, I don't do them. Like someone else said, I mostly do them just because *I* want to do them. It's fun, keeps my energy up, etc.

I like to do them to keep myself entertained...I WISH I had been more careful, since it took months for my back problems to go away after I toned down the pole work a bit (when you hide a grimace by curling around the pole as you slide down, that's not good.)

Just depends on the dancer, I suppose.

Personally I never get bored looking at beautiful naked women, and if there's pole work involved, then all the better. Spinning, hanging, dropping, floating, whatever, its all good.

I will always tip for pole work, even a girl I may not ordinarily tip, cause it looks cool and I know it has to be hard to do. My wife will also always tip for pole work, cause she works out and can appreciate the strength it takes to do pole work.

i think it puts the fun in stripping... it can be just as beautiful and expressive as modern dance or ballet.

The first time I saw pole work by the girls in the club, I knew it was for me. I was hanging upside down in the first two weeks. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the pole! I usually work in at least two tricks or inverts in each set. I think it earns me extra attention and extra tips.

it took me a while to start pole tricks, but once I did I found them all kinds of fun. They made a set a little less monotanous.

Places where I have gone to work, have asked me,

Well, little lady, what can you do?

Yeah, I get on the pole, and I show them.

    No more questions.

    Did I get the job?

    Duh. Like yeah.

My club just has a catwalk, so I HAVE to get creative with floor work.

I started off doing some pole tricks, but realized my money neither increased or decreased with each trick, so now I pretty much stay off the pole. Slow, sensual FLOOR work increased the QUALITY of my tips though (bigger denominations and attracting guys with more money to spend), but not necessarily the quantity of people coming up to the stage.

As a customer though, I may tip a dancer who I normally would not find attractive if she does pole tricks or aggressive floor work. Can't say I'd get a dance though.

I barely know any pole work, but I'm debating buying one of those poles you can set up at home. Does anyone have one of these? Are they worth it?

I looove pole work...it's fun and looks cool, even if it doesn't always increase your tips. At the last club I worked at, though, we had a guy who used to come in about once a week, and he would tip me 20 each set, just because he liked my pole work...especially since I was basically the only girl in the club who did any. Plus, I've found that female customers who come in with big groups or in couples tend to tip more for girls who do pole work...I don't notice too much of a difference in the number of laps I give, though.

As for having a pole at home, I'm in love with mine...I think I must drive my roommates crazy because I'm constantly swinging around on it. However, if you are just interested in learning more tricks and have some time at your club when it isn't busy, you might want to just goof around on the pole there...

Ryrie, what is your pole at home made of? I had a polished stainless steel one but I sold it on Ebay as it was too slippery. Your skin cant grip it at all. Im trying to get a hold of a brass one (hard to do in Australia!). I heard those powder coated ones are good but too 'grippy' they drag on your skin? Brass is sposed to grip AND let you slip just right. Just wondering what you have as you seem really happy with it!!

I think pole tricks are sooo cool. I want to learn more. Here's the ones i do

    spins
    inverts
spin that ends in an invert
both hands extending in front of pole and my legs up in the air for a floating impression.

Pole work is so much fun ! I highly recommend an at home pole for all dancers to increase earnings and keep things interesting. Having a pole at home allows you to learn and make mistakes without being embarrased.

I prefer the painted ones like those sold by Lil Mynx over brass poles. Brass requires alot of upkeep with a special brass cleaner which is MESSY. All that I have to do to clean my painted pole is wipe it down with a damp cloth and it is good to go .

I love pole work. And yes I've noticed an increase in earnings when I do pole work versus no pole work. Its fun, it keeps it interesting. My club is in a college town. The college kids love crazy pole tricks!
