Default Teens debate SC in local rag

Okay, get this. Our local paper has a section for teens with articles written by teens. Here we have a 16 year old debating an 18ish year old on the merits of SC's.

Thought you all might get a kick out of this, and maybe send a few comments to the paper as to the appropriateness of having teens debate something they should know nothing about.

    Should be illegal

    Should be legal

This is among some of the funniest crap I've ever read in my life. Both of these girls are morons and have no clue what they are talking about. I'm sorry, but if you've never stepped foot in a sc, I don't think you should be debating on whether or not it should be legal, or for that matter anything about it!

Im sorry but reading things like this just makes my blood boil. Why an earth are teenagers debating the pros and cons of SCs? Shouldnt they be discussing acne or braces or somthing they have some first hand knowledge of? I hate it when other women bring up the issue of womens rights as an excuse to ban SCs. Surely the whole point of womens rights is having options, having the right to choose your own path-whatever that may be. By closing SCs down, you take those options away and in doing so surely take away womens right to choose this path. How can this girl understand a subject like womens rights when shes not even a fully grown woman herself.

It disgusts me when I hear people suggesting that stripping and prostitution go hand in hand. Its obviously the opinion of someone who has never been in an upmarket club and has no idea of the industry. I also hate the tone of pitty in both of these girls articles. Both are of the opinion that all strippers are only doing this job through desperation or as a last resort. I happen to love my job. I have a University degree which I need for my day job but I still dance at night because I love it and I like the extra cash. I dont need to be a stripper. My day job makes me enough money to be comfortable but when I gave stripping up after I left Uni, I missed it so decided to go back. Im not a single mother, a student or "trying to make ends meet" Im just a woman who loves her job and happens to be quite good at it and I know several other girls who are in a similar possition to me.

The opinions of both these girls are uneducated and narrow minded. They obviously have a preconceived idea of this subject and have not really taken any time to research any of their ideas. How many strippers did they interview for example. Have they visited any SCs or interview anyone that has? I very much doubt it.

Im sorry to go on so much but I hate how these girls and girls like them try to make me feel bad about what I do. There are many bad aspects of society that are in urgent need of attention, as far as I can see, SCs are the very least of our worries.

I say stand tall and be proud. Dont let small minded people affect how you view yourself o how you live your life,

I wrote to them, here's what I said:

“In essence, they are the same business -- the selling of a woman's body.”

Hmm…. Let’s see. Do you buy magazines? Have you watched T.V., EVER? Seen a movie lately? Open your eyes to the world and you will see that sex sells. Period. Every magazine you purchase will have a sexy woman on the front: Maxim, Jane, FHM, Cosmo, Elle, I mean, the list goes on and on. Sex is everywhere, whether you like it or not.

The real question you should ask yourself is WHY someone goes to a strip club. The club does not force any person to go to their establishment, just as no person forces one to cheat on their wife. We provide a service, and it is at the customer’s discretion on what he/she chooses to do on their time. A strip club provides adult entertainment, and nothing more.

“No matter how inexorable the conditions of a personal situation are, there always are other options”

Don’t assume that entertainers/dancers/strippers don’t want to dance. Men/women are working at these clubs because they want to. Most are good at it, and yes, make quite a lot of money. Of course there are other options, but what do you suggest? Understand that there is a huge difference between working at night and working during the day. Nightlife is a different world all together, but since you are a teen you have not had the opportunity to experience this yet. These people are not able to sustain their lifestyles by working in an office, nor do most have the education or knowledge. Suggest to me other options that allow the freedom these people enjoy, as well as an income they are used to, and then you have an argument.

“What is worse is that strip clubs are idealized in the movies.”

So don’t go. Freedom of speech.

“Filmmakers depict strip clubs with a clean, "friendly" ambience and simply portray them as an establishment at which to have a good time. Society even sends the message to desperate women that this is what they should be doing; this is a reputable way to earn a living if all else fails.”

They are. Have you ever been to a strip club? Have you carried out your journalism by actually researching a variety of clubs in your area? Did you think to compare strip clubs with regular night clubs? I didn’t think so. Just as you have an argument, I see no tangible information to back up your accusations. You would have a much better case if your article wasn’t based on your own opinion. What movie tells women to be a stripper? And who decides what is reputable or not? And who’s business is it if one either wants to be half-naked on the cover of a magazine or naked in a private club?

“No single woman admires a man for stopping in at a strip club.”

No man is worried about what a single woman thinks of him stopping in at a strip club. I promise.

Listen, I understand your disgust with strip clubs, but for goodness sake, do your research first. Don’t forget that there are clubs for women and men.
The bottom line is that strip clubs are a facility that provides entertainment. It is not our fault if someone chooses to walk into an establishment and spend money. There are so many vices and temptations in this world, and this will never change. What one needs to consider, are the reasons behind the motivation on acting upon impulse. A person’s will is a very powerful, yet delicate characteristic of the human mind. Don’t kill the messenger.

Yeah, I thought that I knew everything too when I was these girls' age.

Life will shit on them eventually. Having one's naive teenage notions destroyed is part of growing up. The one suggesting that clubs be shut down looks like she services her high school's football team on her knees anyway.

“Filmmakers depict strip clubs with a clean, "friendly" ambience and simply portray them as an establishment at which to have a good time. Society even sends the message to desperate women that this is what they should be doing; this is a reputable way to earn a living if all else fails.”
Now what blithed movie was this? Clean, "friendly" ambience? (and what's with the quotes around friendly). I must have missed that one between Showgirls, Blue Iguana, and all those B-movie turkeys with Shannon Tweed in them.

good response nychaos, you said pretty much what i was thinking. What really upsets me is that they are teenagers, don't they have more important issues to debate? if they haven't experienced it i don't think they could be judgemental.

"What virtues do strip clubs perpetuate? Women aren't making an honest, joyous living, and men aren't upholding any self-dignity."
hmm...that's funny i thought i was happy and i'm out there working my butt off trying to make enough to pay my bills...what right does she have to tell me i'm not making an honest living.

i hope karma comes back on her...wouldn't it be funny if in the future she started dancing?

okay, she's 16. She isn't allowed legally to watch those kind of movies for one (they are R or NC-17, like Showgirls is.) And secondly, she's about five years off from being legally allowed to go to a SC. (In Ohio at least you have to be 21.)

Although one might say its attitudes like these that breed stereotypes, remember that the people who wrote this article are in fact young and uninformed teenagers and not adults who one would expect to know better about adult life. These teens have yet to learn about life and the realities of adult entertainment and the choices, etc that accompany them. I wouldn't talk about karma and such at this stage, they don't realise the naivete of their own words just yet.

Sure, they should learn the importance of research but for now, I'd just take it with a pinch of salt. I'm sure the responses they get from lots of other infuriated readers will teach them that!

    I couldn't agree more !

And I find it a bit upseting that the paper published this story considering one of them was a minor. Maybe it is my just my maternal/female nature but it just doesn't sit right with me.

It would have been a better article (imo) if both of them had been like say 21

Argh.. this article irritated the he** out of me. My young daughter would NOT be writing an article about SCs and sure as heck would not have her photo on the page next to her article... thats just odd. Why a picture of these girls? I dont get it...

It's a page for teens in our Sunday paper. They always have this point counterpoint thing, and they always show pictures of the two teens debating the issue. What gets me more than anything else is the poor judgement in picking the topic. Someone should be fired.

No kidding! What moron thought it'd be a good idea to have teenagers debate the merits (or lack thereof) of stripclubs????

Interestingly, it shows that last week's topic was whether old bands should be revived or not. How the hell do they go from that to stripclubs??? Last week's topic was an example of an age-appropriate topic for teens to debate. Furthermore, most adults don't have nearly enough information to intelligently discuss whether strip clubs should remain legal or not - who ever thought a couple high school brats would???

Another thing I find funny is their idea that only scummy dirty men go to strip clubs. I'm sure their own fathers have both been at a crazy bachelor party or two (or ten!) with strippers, and I can also name plenty of upper-class professional business men (and women) that visit strip clubs. Wow - the naivete and idiocy is amazing.

First they should get fired for picking such a stupid topic. Then they should be fired again for publishing such ill-informed writings.

And I think the pictures in the paper is really weird too, don't their parents want to protect them from weirdos?

I would definitely question the editor in charge of coming up with that topic also. They do need to be fired for allowing these teenage girls to talk about a place they are too young to go to. What's next week, 13 year olds debating about porn movies. "I believe anal porn is degrading to women......"

Well....I'm gonna take the OTHER side of the argument (LOL.... SOMEONE ought to!!!!). For one, I'm glad to see these girls debating SOMETHING other than makeup and fashion. Admittely, BOTH of them get their facts out of whack (although, frankly, the "pro" girl was closer to the truth).

From my OWN perspective, when I was 16 I hardly knew a SC existed, much less THOUGHT about one. If you'd asked me, I would NEVER have considered even setting foot in one. Ugggg.......... Of course, by 19, I was a regular full-time dancer.

    Go figure.....

I agree that it's a stupid idea for them to be debating this. The one girl even admitted to never having set foot in a strip club, so how could she know anything about them? That's sort of like saying "Yeah, sushi is disgusting! I've never tried it, but it's gross anyway." They're just ignorant. It was funny to read though.

Well, I read the news article.............

and my stupid, stupid mind kept regurgitating it over and over and over.

So, here is my modest contribution.

The most consistent thing about stories like this is that it is done for hype (like here) and when the hype finally dies down and begins to weather away, nobody cares anymore and it never gets mentioned any more.

These kind of storeis aren't sensational.

If you would kindly give me free reign on how nude dancing can corrode customers automobile mufflers while they are sitting in the club watching the festivities, we may have something worthy to report.
The truth is, there is no evidence that women's puke caused the corrosion, and even if it is true, there has never been an art piece confronting said issue.

    It's all bullkrap.

In fact, the only lesson to learn from all this is the more bile the media pukes up, the more corroded and toxic its outlets become.
As with most bulimic high school girls (damn, it's been only a few years since I was one), editors need to get over their obsession with how they look and focus on what's important: the design of bathroom fixtures.

The Teen Strip Club Debates reminds me of "The Onion" Point-Counterpoints.

HELP! SANDAL SEASON IS HERE AND MY FEET ARE A MESS

    By Tricia Duckett

Help! Sandal season is here, and my feet are a complete mess! I've got rough heels, ugly calluses, and ragged cuticles. Winter weather really did some serious damage to my feet. Oh, God, please, will somebody please tell me how to get these tootsies back in step for the beach? Somebody call 911! They're a complete disaster!

I love getting my toes pampered with a professional pedicure, complete with aromatherapy massage and a coat of fire-red polish, but I don't have time to wait for an appointment at my favorite spa. What can I do right now? Summer's heating up, and I've got a major fashion emergency on my hands!

I am in serious need of rehydration. But with so many great new moisturizing products on the shelves, how can I tell which one will get rid of this dry, flaky skin? I've got the basic equipment at home: pumice stone, contoured file, toenail clippers, and pedicure sponge, but what should I do? Should I soak, then exfoliate? Or the other way around? Should I use foot-bath salts, overnight cream, or soothing foot gel? Help! I'm going crazy!

In the past, Aveda has come to the rescue. I've had good luck with the Pedicure Essentials Repair Cream. But there are so many other great products out there. Should I hit Bath And Body Works and pick up some amazing wildflower-scented oils? Should I splurge on Revlon's pedicure system? Or should I go for the Body Shop's Foot Relief, with tea-tree oil that continues to exfoliate while feet are in socks or shoes? To be honest, I don't think any of those are a match for the train wreck that is my feet. Help!

I know that soothing my feet helps relieve tension and puts me in the right state of mind for summer fun. But these feet look so hopeless, I don't even know where to begin. Oh, if only I could hide them under my boots for just a few weeks longer!

I'm running out of time. The fashion calendar says I've got to lose the heavy shoes and slip into a pair of cute flip-flops or sexy sling-backs. But they're not going to be so cute or sexy on my hideous feet. Help! Save me!

HELP! I'M TRAPPED IN A BURNING BUS
    By Cindy Waymer

Help! We're trapped in here! Can anyone hear us? Please, God, help! Somebody call 911! Help!

A tire blew, and we careened off the highway. I remember rolling... there was an explosion. The bus was tossed over the side, and we slipped down into the ravine.

It's getting hot. I can't move my legs. My feet—they're stuck. I can't feel my feet! I see fire up front. Help! I'm trapped in a burning bus!

Water! We need water! It's an emergency!

Can anyone hear me? Please, somebody find me! There are 10 of us down here. Help! There's broken glass everywhere. Then the bus rolled... oh, God. Is it sliding again? Help!

    Hurry! I need help now!

It's dark, and there's smoke. I don't know what to do. Which way is up? Should I try to drag myself out of a window? I can't just lie here. Is there some way to put out the fire? Can anyone hear me? Are you alive over there?

I need a doctor. Doctor? Doctor! Somebody tell me what to do. Does anyone on this bus know what to do? Is anyone trained for this? If only I had some sort of tool. Is there an ax or a hammer or something around here?

    Emergency! Emergency! Send an ambulance!

Does anybody have a phone? Oh, God. I don't even know where we are. We rolled into a meadow. I smell it burning. It smells like oil and pine needles. Help!

It's the end. I know it. It's hopeless. I guess all I can do is await my fate. I should try to face it calmly.

Oh, God. I'm running out of time. I'm not ready to die! There's so much I haven't done yet: have children, write a novel, travel the world. This can't be the end. Help! Save me!
