    Default OMG. They weren't kidding!

Holy shit. Literally. I just started taking Tonalin CLA. And on the label there's a warning that "This product may cause gastrointestinal distress." OMG. Let me tell ya what. They were not joking around about that. I'm sitting on my toilet for the 6th time in the last two hours!!!! I really hope this goes away soon. Has anyone else had any side effects like this from taking the CLA? If so, how long did it last? I'm getting really tired of sitting in my bathroom.

If I were you, I would go off it until your stomach clears up, then reintorduce it gradually. Work up to 6000 mg a day over a perioed of a week or two. It soundsl like a lot of truble, but the resuslts are Defintely worth it.

    Hey ladies,

Which Tonalin CLA are you guys using? I tried looking it up, but there are so many different brands. I tried doing a search on SW for this...but didn't come up with any big threads.

I haven't had it bother me much other than a little gurgling in the tummy. Definitely not six times a day on the toilet! I only take 3000 per day so maybe that is why.

Take the CLA Tonalin with a meal, preferably a substantial one (not juice & muffin breakfast.) My brand does not have the tummy trouble warning (Swanson Best Weight Control Formulas.) So maybe you should switch brands if the trouble continues. My friends are taking the Rexall/Wal-Mart CLA and report no problems.

I had problems with my bowel movements being looser although not quite as bad as you are describing, the whole time i was on it. I did reintroduce it gradually but finally I just quit taking it because it was not worth the trouble. Hope you feel better!!

Take it with milk (regular or 2%), it helps curb the gas...

Sorry to be so late in replying to this. I haven't been active on SW in a while.

    www.tonalin.com

Also, Tonalin is Tonalin. Its just that other manufactures pay to market it. ie GNC,Viatmin World, etc. I hope this makes sense, I'm super tired right now.

Does this product really work for weight loss? If so. I will run out and buy it right now! I read something about acne w/ this product? Is that right? I have bad skin already! But if this causes the stomach problem mentioned above then that would be good for me! I have the opposite problem and need to take Zelnorn. So maybe this product will actually help my stomach and help to lose this 10 lbs that I gained after having my breast augmentation.

Tonalin is not a diet pill. Its simply an oil. Our bodies need fatty acids that we don't get enough of. Its either sunflower or safflower oil.

They're not like diet pills. Most, if not all diet pills contain stimulints to raise your heart rate etc.. CLA doesn't have that.

I had the worst stomach pains from these pills. Never any squirts but just really bad cramps. It's been 2 weeks but i've stopped taking them. The only time i took the pills and didn't get any pain was when i ate it with a tuna sandwich. I think someone posted in another thread that you need to take it with protein. ie. milk etc. Also i didn't build the dosage up slowly either. I started off taking 6 pills and usually all at once so i wouldn't have to think about it for the rest of the day. So maybe if you're taking these pills like i did then maybe that's why you're sick.

I'm going to start taking them again but the right way. 3 pills at first, building up slowly to 6, not taking them all at once and always with a high protien meal.

It's funny....I thought i was that 1% out there that got sick to my stomach from these pills. That was the percentage i read from a study they did on CLA.

Um ya....I had major bowel problems....but nothing solid...all liquid. It was horrible. But it lasted for about 2-3 weeks. Doesn't really happen anymore. Either my body got used to it or it's because I started taking it with milk & always eating some kind of meat with it. =)

Use the Tonalin brand of CLA and make sure it's made of SAFFLOWER, not sunflower oil. It's not like diet pills because it's something that we were getting naturally from meat, eggs, etc. until the sources started to get messed with (all the chemicals). And yes, it f you take it with milk (preferably 2% or no fat), it should curb any bowel side effects.

"If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or lactating please consult a health care professional before taking this or any other dietary supplement. "

Has anyone asked their doctor if it`s okay to take this while breastfeeding? I don`t have a dr. right now, but am assuming since this is natural without stimulants that it would be okay to take while breastfeeding?

    I wanna try it too!!

I wouldn't. Just remember that anything that goes into your body the baby can get through the milk. It's probably too advanced for an infant's digestive system...

Um . . . the Tonalin brand is made with Sunflower oil, other brands look to be made with Safflower oil.

    ?

BTW, I'm interested in the supplement but leery due to the studies that suggest it can cause insulin resistance which is a pre-diabetic marker. *shudder* Weirdly, it either seems to be that most people in the study develop insulin resistance or that everyone does not. I've been poring through Medline archives and I'm stumped.

    Any word on this?

I love that it keeps my tummy flat by keeping an build-up out. It keeps me regular even when I'm low carbing, which we all know is a awful side effect. I take it with a little bit of gatorade and take my multi-vitiam at the same time since I need fat for some of them to disovole correctly. I stopped drinking milk becuase I found out my body has slowly became lactose. My doc thinks its becuase I've cut of diary for the better part of a year and now my body doesn't have enzymes to break it down anymore.
