    Default drink rant

i work at a club (like most) that does not allow us to say no to a drink. i might have 1 or 2 drinks with alcohol in them at the start of my shift and after that i hint to the bartender to start making them non alcoholic. many of the girls i work with are under 21 and the bartender always makes them non alcoholic drinks even though the customer is unaware of this. am i the only one here who just wishes guys would put that money into dances or tips instead? i mean.. some guys will buy me 4 or 5 drinks thinking i'm getting wasted. i understand it's a nice offer to buy a girl a drink. i just wish more guys knew that by the time they get there i've probably already had like 20 freaking non alcoholic drinks and am so full of sugar and liquid by that point that i feel like i'm going to be sick. i actually feel a whimper comming on every time a guy asks "can i buy you a drink?".
i also feel like it's ripping the guy off charging him 5 bucks for a drink with no alcohol in it, but what am i supposed to do? drink 20 alcoholic beverages while i'm at work in the middle of the day? i think not.

Dont finish the drink you DO have and they won't ask to buy you another....

Don't you sell bottled water? Most guys don't care if you are drinking booze or not.

They can't have you miked at work.... tell the guys after the waitress leaves that you aren't allowed to turn them down...OR

get up and hustle dances rather than sit with them long enough for them to buy you more,.... etc....

That is sucky of the club to put you in that situation..

Maybe you could talk to them about raising the dancer drink prices and giving the girls commission on the drinks?

I hope you're getting drink commission money.

I had to hustle drinks, so I would drink half, then excuse myself and dump the rest in the trash or down the bathroom sink. Or, I would encourage the custie to buy a drink for another dancer.

I discovered I had blood sugar problems this way- having to slam drinks all night. So, my advice to you is to tell management that you have a health problem that is aggravated by excess sugar/ alcohol, and if they don't ease up on the drink hustling, you'll be forced to leave because they probably aren't providing health insurance for you and you cannot risk your health over a stripping job. Be reasonable about it and they'll probably give you leeway. For every one dancer who wants to teetotal, there's another three who will gladly take up the slack for her.....

we don't get drink commission. i don't even know if drink commission is common around here. the drink thing is the only problem i have with my club... but i've been told it's the same rule everywhere around here. also, theres no "dumping it in the sink" because we arent supposed to get up and leave with a drink someone bought for us. if a guy buys a drink we're supposed to sit and talk with him while we drink it.

This is ridiculous....they expect you to drink all night, and not get bloated or sick? What as*holes. I had a prize potbelly from hustling drinks for several months. Never again.

You need to get a few dancers together on this and demand some changes. I have friends who could not work where you do because of hypoglycemia and diabetes. Or coolly mention you consulted a lawyer and he said.....

Get some girls behind you and they'll have to budge.

The ONE drink I've heard of that can be hustled without ill effect to your body is a "fake" Vodka Tonic (really just tonic water with a lemon peel.) But I'm sure some custie will catch on, it's too easy to spot.

    Yeah, this is complete bullshit....

furthermore, isn't it illegal to sell a drink as an alcoholic drink when it isn't?

Um, are you SURE you're not getting an hourly wage based on the amount of drinks you sell???

Anyway, when a guy wants to buy you a drink make sure you just tell the waitress you'd like WATER and make sure the customer hears your order. (After your first couple of alcoholic ones to get your night started, that is.) If the customer has a problem with that then he's NOT someone you want to be with, and if the club won't sell a $10 glass of water something is really fishy there...(I haven't personally seen a club where there isn't a sign somewhere that states 'Employee drinks may or may not contain alcohol' or something like that; learn where it is to show him if he gets all mad.)

I know I couldn't drink even as much water as I see being consumed nightly by some of the girls, but this also gives you an excuse to go to the ladies room--where you may be 'asked' by someone along the way to do a LD--getting you away from the table and the drinks for a bit.

I've got a solution. Pretend to be getting shots and just have them put water and a little tiny bit of alcohol for smelling purposes. Then you don't have a big drink in front of you and don't have to sit around trying to finish that drink. Take you shot of water, say thank you, and move on.

I worked at a club that for every "virgin" drink that you sold, the waitress would get a $2 commission, it was suppose to be for the dancer but the dancers let them keep it in exchange for hooking them up with dances..... My favorite "fake drink" was a fake lemon drop made with lemon juice and water with sugar on the rim.... I never once got the drink questioned if it was real.
