Default ANY COMMUTERS OUT THERE? need advice!

How far would you commute to work? I'm a college student and I am considering going to class early in the week and driving 2 hours up to canada to dance on the weekends because my city is notoriously shitty for dancers. Is it crazy to commute every weekend? Its 2 hours each way and I'd most likely stay in a hotel while I'm there. I think I could keep up w/ my schoolwork, but I'm not sure. Do any other girls commute a long way to work? Is it driving you insane? Any info would be very much appreciated.... I need advice!! Thanks

If you stay and work Fri and Sat nites I dont see the problem. Lots of girls do this from LA to Vegas (4 hours) and from Sacramento to San Fran (2 hours +/-)

Yeah, I think it's doable. You'll be tired, though. But from what I hear about Seattle, you're better off.

I only work a couple of nights a week here and commute is about 1.5 hrs one way in the winter and anywhere from 2 - 3 hrs in the summer. If the money is worth the drive I say go for it. Like someone said above me, go up for a couple of nights and then commute back instead of two or three times a week.

I used to commute 1 1/2 hours each way to my club b/c it was the closest to my home besides the shit hole club that I quit in disgust. I only did it on weekends b/c that was really the only time that the money was worth it. I should've stayed in a hotel during football season and during Xmas break. I hope your car doesn't crap out on you.

I have been doing exactly that since March. I drive 3 hours and stay in a hotel thursday night thru sunday morning. I am going a little nuts, but it is sooo worth it, I make 3-4x what I would make at home. I don't recommend anyone doing it this long, but I am buying a house in the new area and get to stop commuting in 2 months, yay! Make the most of your time while you are there but don't burn yourself out. I bring or buy my own groceries, fast food was getting sooo tiresome. Good luck

Commute down to Portland. A lot of Seattle girls do just that. You won't make bank, but from what I've heard you will make more then you will in Vancouver Canada. Most girls take home $150 (Canadian) which is like $120 USD. At least in Portland you will have a chance at earning up to $500 a shift over the weekends. The clubs with alcohol will hire underage dancers. The dances are air dances in Portland, too. If making money is your goal (and not just having travel expenses covered) then Portland is a better bet, and still only 3 hours away from you.

Are you aware of all the possible clubs in Washington? Go to mensclubfinder's search , insert Washington for your state and click search. Maybe there's a club near you that you didn't know was there.

not to rain on any parades, but your 'international' commute adds a couple of potential new wrinkles. The first of course is that you can't expect to keep making the same border crossing with the same car and the same license plates week after week after week without somebody at the border taking notice. Sooner or later you ARE going to get pulled aside and searched/questioned, which leads to the fact that ...

US citizens working in Canada are supposed to obtain a Canadian work visa. This is not all that hard to obtain, but it DOES create a 'public record' of the fact that you are working as an exotic dancer. The visa form also includes an entry line where the Canadian gov't informs the US gov't (and IRS undoubtedly) of the amount of money you are expected to be earning working n Canada. Obviously if you declare all of your income and pay appropriate US and Canadian taxes this is not a problem, however ...

Since you are a student, I presume that you apply for and collect TAP, Pell Grants, Student Loans etc. These financial forms are also automatically shared with the IRS by American colleges. As long as the amount of income you listed on the financial aid forms includes your expected Canadian club income, you're fine - however you may also wind up being ineligible for some financial aid money. But if for some reason you accidentally didn't include your Canadian income on your financial aid forms in order to insure your eligibility, that's called fraud if/when the IRS computers eventually connect the dots.

as I said, commuting internationally adds a whole new level of potential complications.

Actually, I'm hoping it won't be such a big deal because I have dual citizenship. I am considered a citizen in both the US and Canada. Also, I don't have financial aid for school, its just me, myself, and I, so i'm not too worried about that either. I have alot of family in Canada, so my plan is to tell the border guards that I am visiting my father in BC and I'm going to buy all my clothes up there and just keep them at work. Of course I'm going to check out the clubs there first a few times before I decide to make the weekly commute, but I'm optimistic!

Is that worth doing? I live in L.A. and am about to start dancing pretty soon, and I've heard of other women in L.A. working in Vegas. It might be an advantage for me not to be recognised, as I have a regular freelance job and don't want to risk losing out on work by people who write me off as a dumb stripper. But I was put off by the fact that I'd have to schlep 5 hours each way every weekend and miss all my weekends at home, plus in Vegas I know you have to have a license. Is it really worth the hassle and travel to get out of L.A.?

I think I'd check out Portland like Paris said - probably better money potential. Alot of girls do commute and as said if you stay a couple nights and work it can be worth it, especially to be able to make decent money without dealing with the sleaze factor we've heard so much about in Seattle.

    1. There's a reason so many girls travel from LA to dance in Vegas.
    2. As hard as it can be to make money in Vegas, LA is known as THE shithole for dancers.
    3. Alot of LA girls fly Southwest, etc for the trip - cheap flights and if you're doing it most weekends you'll rack up alot of free flights.
    4. IMO, Phoenix is a much better market for strippers than Vegas, money potential is as good or better here, and with ALOT less bullshit. I'd try Phoenix instead of Vegas if I were you. Especially as a new dancer - the hustle is EXTREME in Vegas. You can get flights to PHX just as easy as to LV, but PHX seems to be often overlooked by travelling dancers because they've got stars in their eyes dreaming of some nonexistent pot of gold in LV
