I have broad hips, and it's hard to keep my butt in shape, what excercises have you ladies found that work, and are guaranteed to tone your ass?
thanks ♥

Lunges and deadlifts and squats, oh my!
Good mornings, squats, dead lifts...and you it's absolutely imperative that you have perfect posture doing these exercises.
There are lots of things you can do to tone your butt. Stairclimber machine, ecliptical machine, walking uphill on the treadmill and pilates. I do all of these plus the lunges. I get enough squats at work, lol.
There's a machine at the gym called the Reverse Leg Curl, where you lay on the bench stomach down and lift weight with the muscles on the back of your legs & your buns. You'll feel the burn. Yeah, guys will stare at your behind, but wear ugly baggy shorts and you'll feel less exposed.

I feel the burn in my butt when I do stationary bikes at the gym.
Yes, I use this machine too.Originally Posted by madmaxine

I haven't been to the gym in a while. Last week I was playing tennis, with the "running" & "squating" down to pick up the ball...made & STILL the muscles on my butt cheeks hurt.

Running full-on sprints across a baseball diamond also works. That distance seems to be just right. And I mean SPRINT as hard as you can. Start off with 10 and move up to 25 or 30. If you can do this twice a week, it will really help out with glute strength and defenition. Surely you have a park nearby with a BB field?

Since I have weak ankles thanks to those wonderful heels I wear at work..... I opt for low impact exercise/activity.
I have the Windsor Pilates for Bum video and I can tell you those exercises work
Otherwise, walk.. walk.. and walk some more!

If you belong to a gym you can target the butt on either the leg press or hack squat machines by placing your feet near the top of the platform. This will lessen the effort placed on your quads and shift it to the glutes. Make sure to do a full range of motion.
If you dont belong to a gym, get yourself a "balance ball", like the one in the Core Secrets infomercial. Lay with your back on the ball and roll forward so your knees bend and your butt touches the ground. Use your legs to push you back up and repeat.

i ride my bike up and down a very steep hill for twenty minutes about 3-4 times a week. and the gears are set for flat ground. so there's lots of resistance.![]()

Also, Spinning class burns the hell out of your lower body!! I've been doing it for a week and have noticed a difference already.
haha i know what you mean with the squats at work

thanks for the advice!
I work out with a trainer, do pilates, watch what I eat and I STILL DESPISE my ass. My boyfriend took some pics of me this weekend and I was like holy shit I didn't even know my ass looked as bad as the pics came out. Gross. I'm doomed. I just have horrible ass and thigh genes.
Google this: Bun and Thigh Roller.. I SWEAR by this little contraption.. my ass is hard as a rock by using this.. fifteen minutes three times a week... I can't wait until I can start exercising again..![]()

Squats with weights!

I used the stair climbing machine that has revolving steps. I put it on a lower level so it is moving slower and lunge up skipping a step and at the same time lifting my other leg back and squeezing my buns. I do this for about fifteen min. in addition to 45 or 30 min. of some other cardio and I've noticed my ass went from saggy and jiggly to a perky tight round thing. I also use my leg machines, lunges, squats, lifts and all that, but those methods should be pretty easy to figure out.

to tone the ass you must also tone the hamstrings- these two go hand in hand.
my favorite ass-blasting ex's are 1. one-legged deadlifts on a core board, 2. lunges and 3. one-legged squats on the machine.

Working in front of a mirror will make you more conscious of your posture. If you use a wider stance and squat deeper you will recruit your glutes more in the exercise. Don't do this if you have knee problems, though.Originally Posted by *auroralily*

but those excercises don't mean anything with out a proper diet to go along hand in hand -- you can't just work 1 certain area when you work out you workout every single muscle in your body and the first place you put on fat will be the last place you'll lose it.
