    Startup Money

I'm new here and had a question... I've always wanted to strip but never had the nerve. Now I'm stuck in a low-paying freelance job and I seriously need cash - boom, instant nerve! I want to start stripping to make the cash I need, which would be about $15,000 or $20,000 to pay off all my debts, loans, and medical bills, and build up a little safety net. $30,000 would be even better because then I could move overseas (I used to live in Australia and I want desperately to move back, but I'm also thinking about moving to Thailand for awhile).

I am fairly attractive - could stand to lose about 15 pounds, but I figure dancing would knock that off pretty quickly. I have thought of a stage name and a character, and I'm ready to go except for the massive financial investment. I wonder if anybody here can tell me how much it would cost me to start up, like buying outfits, lingerie, shoes, makeup, hairdos, nails, etc. and how quickly I can expect to make it back. And can I deduct all that off my taxes?

I'd also like to know if I'd need a license; I live in L.A.

And how does the tax thing work? Do you have to keep track of how much you make and report all that at the end of the year, or do you get a check from the club with deductions or what?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice you might offer!

Do a search on taxes here in Dollar Den you will find alot to answer your Q's on that. They will tell you what you can deduct and cannot.

For start up money..you dont need alot. Youll need gas to get there and back..preferably a car (hope you have one). Hope you have makeup something anything...eyeshadow, foundation etc. I wish I had stripper shoes when I first started...they are anywhere in btwn 45-70 depending on the store you get them from. I order mine from Snaz.75.com now- great site.

You dont need hairdos...maybe a flat iron or a curling iron. You dont need alot to start though at all. Just 1 pair of shoes, 1 outfit (including thong) , makeup, and body spray. I personally cant work without baby wipes.

How quickly you make it bad depends on the club, area and how hard you work. You can make anywhere from negative money to hundreds of dollars on your 1st night. Its not much of an investment when youre new but after you get "pro" then you can dump more cash into yourself.

I survived my 1st night with my clear 4in shoes from prom, one outfit, a bag of makeup and body spray. The next day after I made some cash I bought some shoes and an outfit. I bought waaay too many outfits after that..hehehe.

Thanks! I don't wear much makeup typically, just powder and occasional lip gloss and mascara, so I expect I'll have to drop quite a bit on that. I'm told I'll definitely need foundation, highlighter, eyeliner, and all that, plus I want glitter and the pretty glitzy stuff.

I'll also need some jewelry; do you know where I could get pretty clip-on earrings? One of my ear piercings pulled through and I can't wear a regular earring in that ear now. Fixing the forked earlobe is one of the things I want to earn money for! I also need the highlights redone in my hair because my roots are showing pretty badly.

And do you think it's worth taking a pole dance class? I don't know the first thing about pole dancing or what to do with a pole.

Thanks a bunch for all your help!

I wouldn't worry about taking a pole dancing class. After spending time in the club and watching other girls work, you'll learn a lot!

Don't worry about having EVERYTHING the first night you work. Just buy stuff you need as you go along. Your club might even have a costume lady/house mom who can give you great deals on the things you need.

Please no glitter guys dont like it either it gets all over the clothes. You can have someone at MAC help you find some basics or you can just go down to your local drug store and pick some stuff out if youre good with makeup.

A housemom is someone who can do your hair, sew a hole in your clothes, have extra tampons and baby wipes, can do your makeup etc. They do all sorts of things make sure to tip her well.

Dont worry about a pole class yet...if you want to then go for it but I think you said you were on a tight budget so yea nix that idea. Pole classes are for girls who want to be better at the pole and really like pole work.

Jewelry is awesome always helped me stand out. I would try the mall like Claires or Afterthoughts for some cheap stuff.

I love pole work; I go to strip clubs as a customer whenever I can afford it and I always love it when people do pole tricks. We always sling twice as much money for it, so I'd like to receive it! But I'll try and pick up whatever I can on the job and maybe take a class once I can afford it better.

    What is MAC?

Also, I hear that She-Laq will seal the glitter and keep it from getting all over everywhere. Is that a bad rumor? Or should I just totally stay away from glitter? I love glitter so I guess I should try some out at home first.

hehe MAC cosmetics you can find them at your local Nordstroms or Macys.

Yes, stay away from glitter nothing more than a married/guy with gf hates is glitter all over his face when he comes home from "a meeting" then greeting his wife/gf. Some guys like to remain anonymous from their wives/gf's about their SC endevours so they dont get in trouble or wvtr the reason and stripper glitter on the face is a dead give away a woman has been there OR they are a bad cross dresser. lol

Damn. I love glitter and had high hopes for She-Laq. Personally, I find it outrageously sexy when a stripper is wearing glitter, especially in her hair. I really love that ethereal fantasy look in a woman; it accentuates that soft goddess thing that some women have. But I thought of shedding glitter being a problem for the male customers; I just hoped the She-Laq would keep it from scattering.

I know a makeup artist who swears by it. She says NOTHING will come off if you top it with a little She-Laq. What do you know about the glitter that sprays in your hair?

(Way off topic, I know, sorry! I can start a new thread if that's what I should do.)

REALLY. Good to know! I don't smoke and you can't smoke indoors in California, so I don't worry about that too much, but now I'm trying to think of some other way my hair could ignite. Geez, this job has all kinds of unexpected occupational hazards. :-)

Say NO to glitter!!! Seriously, you'll just get it all over the guys and they DON'T appreciate it. Save that for raving/nightclubbing, not work.

You'll need a bit more makeup than you normally wear, but don't have to go all out to begin with. Get some light foundation, blush and eyeliner to go with your powder, gloss and mascara. You can experiment with more makeup after you've started making money.

Don't worry about trying to go all professional in the beginning. Just get the bare essentials to start with and build gradually. Get 1 or 2 outfits, a couple thongs and one pair clear or black shoes and the makeup suggested above. The rest you'll accumulate in due time. Guys LOVE new girls, so work that! It's a good selling point - looking like a fresh newbie means $$.

Also, if you haven't even started yet, you have no idea whether you'll like or be able to handle it. You don't want to spend alot of money/time preparing only to find out you can't hack it. Start slow.

    Thanks.

I think I'll do fine... I've always wanted to dance and I'm looking forward to this. I just want to practice dancing in the shoes a little more and practice the makeup tricks, and then I'll look for a club. :-)

I was lucky enough that my bf helped me to start out, and it wasn't too bad. At the time, I was really worried I was spending too much for nothing, but my worries turned out to be invalid. Here's a breakdown of my starting out investment:

$45 pedicure, couldn't afford the manicure and did it myself
about $50 for a brazilian wax; never did it again and I advise you shave if you aren't that fuzzy
$145 for an outfit and extra g-strings; before I knew where to buy cheap clothes. I think it was worth the extra money to be able to go to the store for my first outfit and try on the clothes (and get my guy friends' opinions) versus buying online.
    about $90 for makeup basics
about $50 for cosmetics (scissors, combo lock, wipes, etc.), as outlined in the newbie section, as an initial survial kit
$16 for accessories, thank you Claire's Boutiques
$90 for shoes, since I insisted on starting in my now standard 7in pretty ones

I made $200 my first day shift and was really stunned, then I made over $600 for the next one. The income kept increasing with experience. I took a portion to invest in two more outfits and waited a few weeks before getting everything I needed. It was two months before I paid back the initial investment to my beau, but getting a credit card would allow you the same "luxury" of having a loan for startup.

I know what all my start up expenses were because it's outlined on a spreadsheet for tax deductions from last year. Keep all your receipts and track your expenses. A credit card could give you a monthly report for this, as well, but be sure to budget each month to pay the entire balance. It isn't worth paying interest on business expenses.
...and the day came, when the risk it took to remain closed in a bud became worse than the risk it took to blossom.
