    Default Cheap Outfits?

Okay so I had shoes that I bought for about 60 dollars, I wore them once they broke. The store said no exchanges, they had a sign I didn't have my reciept with me anyways. But I also bought this cute outfit and on the bikini top it is held together by a rhinestone heart and then there are hinges which keep the material to the heart.. The hinge broke off on one side in the wash! Now I figure I can find a way to sew this back on but it's pissing me off because the outfit was like 65$ I think. My ? is are all dancer clothes this cheap or am I just getting ripped off?

I agree. ALWAYS hand wash. And no, clothes aren't supposed to be that cheaply made.

basically dont buy your clothes at walmart, sears, kmart, jcpenney, the thrift store or anywhere else.

if you look cheap people will treat you cheap.

Ross, Marshalls and TJ Maxx are good stores as long as you buy all designer labels.

Back to dancer costumes. They are all made of polyester to facilitate hand washing, and shoes of vinyl.

Certain types of costumes should not be bought because they will wear out quickly. Anything with glitter or sequins will not last. Same goes for outfits with fur trim. Bikinis with beads are tricky. You need to make sure the beads are SEWN in. Silk screened patterns will fade out with repeated washings. I would not recommend buying outfits like this.

T backs and tops with thin straps will unravel as you wear them.

It is better to buy solid color bikinis. They will last longer.

Look at how the closures on an outfit are sewn on. Can they take repeated opening and closing?

Or if an outfit has stress points that can easily come unsewn, can they be sewn up easily.

As far as shoes are concerned, when you buy clear shoes, make sure the heel strap is not all vinyl, but reinforced with colored plastic where the shoe fastens. All vinyl straps will rip and cannot be repaired.

A high quality robe which will last along time is made by Delicate Illusions. You can go to www.delicateillusions.com to see their styles.

Lastly, it is good if you travel a lot to walk through costume stores in every city you go to. If you visit a lot of costume stores on a regular basis you will find some excellent markdowns.

The more costumes a dancer has, and the less frequently she wears them, the longer they will last, and the less dingy they will look. Same goes with shoes. Having several pair of the basic colors such as clear and black, will prolong their life.

SOME costumes can be put in the washer, if they don't have any adornments, BUT they need to be put in mesh lingerie or sweater washer bags, which you can get at Wal Mart for under $2. That way the bra clasps won't get caught in the holes of the washer or dryer, and the strings won't wrap around the washer agitator and damage the outfit.

It's best to hand wash your outfits every night after work and drip dry them. And give them a break before wearing and washing them again.

I had a pair of shoes break a week after I bought them, let me exchange them for another pair after 30min of complaining to customer service. I am super picky when buying outfits, if for nothing else then how long they will last.

From what I have seen in sex toy shops that also sell clothing- the quality leaves alot to be desired, and the prices do not match the quality. It would be in your best interest to shop around and keep an eye out for markdowns like mentioned above.

I bought a bikini top, thong and pair of assless chaps at a store in a local mall, (one of those stores that have scanty clubwear for a 'cheaper' price) the whole set cost me $35.

The next week I was in NC and browsing through Priscilla's, a popular spot for local dancers to get their gear- and the same outfit was $60!!! I couldn't believe it- that was highway robbery...

We have costumers that set up shop in our dressing room almost every night. They're not cheap, I'll spend anywhere between $65-$95 per outfit. However, if a clasp breaks, a hem falls, or I punch a hole through a seam with my 6" heel, they always are willing to repair it on the spot for free. They'll also customize an outfit for me, like if I like a certain design but prefer it in a different fabric, length, color, etc.

A good place to find dirt cheap work clothes is Forever 21. I know they're everywhere here in Colorado and the west in general. They have new stuff every week so you can always find something. The quality isn't great, but if something falls apart you're not too upset 'cause it cost 25 bucks or under. If you absolutly love something from there, buy two. However, I have a few peices from there that have lasted well over a year...

The most awful thing i ever saw was a girl go on stage 2 inch payless shoes with SOCKS, and we're not talking the cute ones.... we're talking hanes.... and this dress.... I think she made it herself oh and no make-up, she said becuase she was allergic to it..... She couldn't understand why they did not hire her, afterwards the manager told me that the girl wasn't even a newbie, at least then you could teach her somethings, she put on her app that she had been dancing for 6 yrs.....

If you have a friend or can hire someone at a fair price, I know a few girls who make their own costumes. They are pretty easy to design, and you can get tons of colors and fabric textures for a not bad cost.
But if you can't find someone skilled.........just drop your $$ on store clothes. Don't risk it.

Growing up, Mama taught me how to design my own dresses and cut andd sew them. But, damn, I just don't have the time much more.
I only do this, if I have got to have that darn dress or gown, and I don't have the money at that particular moment. But for most stuff, heck, why bother, its cheaper to go out and buy.

Riiigghhttt... I'll keep that in mind when I see 6" heels at costco.

As for dancers clothes... My rule of thumb is that they're ALL cheep (cuz, well, they are! Some more than others), so wash them by hand and replace them regularly.

Hand wash everything. Airdry it. Mend items when you first start to see signs of wear. Don't wait until there is a hole in the side...the moment you see the thread unraveling, get to it sistah!

LUSCIOUS shoes, i dont care what style, these are like the cutest shoes on the planet but their life is 1-3 wears. I sooo love the look but they are glued together by hand. When I tried to take them back the sales lady told me to glue them back together, arghhh did I go off on her , they were 79!! I thought I had bad luck the first time, bought another pair, exactly the same from a different store 40!! they fell apart the first time! This store gladly exchanged, but, They suck, just a heads up.

Buffie, I just checked out Luscious shoes, I couldn't find much, but yea, they looked really cute! For good shoes, I've found Pleasers to last for years!

I get a lot of my dancer clothes at Forever 21 here or at H&M when on the East coast. Thing I love is cheap prices, ok quality but best is that its different than the same ol' that everyone else wears at the club...

Everything I have made for me now unless its really really cute. It only costs me 30-60 made or not made for me. Shoes I will pay good money for and I only buy Pleasures cuz I wear them out but I wear them for at least 6 months.
Ive shopped at www.stripperzone.com and their stuff was pretty good. I just bought a bunch of tops and thongs there though.

Tina, how did you get to order from them delicateillusions.com? They say they need a sellers permits or federal tax ID certificate to order. I really like their stuff too. I dont even know what a tax ID is?

Most of what I own I bought from the costume maker in Guam. She went from club to club. It's all still useable after 3 years, so it's a testimony to finding a seamstress.
I also buy secondhand from other dancers. There are a lot of bargains on the Internet too.
Occasionally I get work items at Ross or a similar store, but I try to look as sexual as possible at work and some items don't look "indecent" enough.
PS I shop at thrift and consignment stores- never at high end stores. No one ill treats me because they usually notice my measurements and smile first instead of the clothes. ; P
My aunt and uncle dress like hayseeds and they're worth a million dollars alltogether. Don't be so quick to judge!
