Arrow Input needed from the BEST of the best!

Good morning (or whatever it may be for you at the time that you read this) everyone!
I have requested your presence because I am in need of the best suggestions that I can get from those who are willing to help. After years of NEVER advertising based on a strong belief of word of mouth business, our owner has caved a little bit and gave us the okay to create a website for our club.
Now we are all working together to help put together an informative and yet enticing website, that will be beneficial to both our customers as well as our dancers.
So here are my questions to you:
-What are the basic things we need on our website? (While we have general idea, a standard checklist would help keep on track)
-Dancers, what kind of information would you like to see on a website that you think may spark the interest of future clientle, what kind of information would help you?
-Guests, what kind of information would be of interest to you. Would you like to be able to send little messages to your ATF? Maybe suggest a playlist or an outfit?
-Suggestions from DJ's (...Last night a DJ saved my life lol) and anyone else who may have some iput would be very helpful as well...

Also does anyone has a list of 5 really good club websites that we could look at to kind of get a starting point for creativity. It would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to this post.

We have an "Only the Best" , but I don't think we have a "Best of the Best".

I like Delilah's website for here in Philly. www.delilahs.com. As a dancer it would be great to see pictures of what the other dancers look like, club layout, audition times.

I like my clubs' website. But most of the time it's hard to get in, but that could be my computer being stupid. I do have to say though, I don't think you should copy their format or their ideas. take some time and just come up with a good idea. Maybe post pictures of the club and the girls(those that want pics online), some clubs put the schedules online but some don't b/c of crazy customers. Have the information of the club in the website(drink prices, dance prices, how many girls, dress code, etc)

hope that helps! I'd give ya the name of the website but i'm sure they'd be pissed if someone copied it

Agreed. I have always liked their site.

Others that stick in my menory from over the past few years...

The Cheetah in Atlanta-- It was redone not long ago.

I think for guests the Mens Club site isn't bad either, though I've noticed it it isn't always working properly.

Here's the site for the local club:

    http://www.goldclubcenterfolds.com/main.php

It would be a very good site if it were completed (portions sitill under construction after all the years it's been up), kept current (although I was very fond of a couple of the ex-waitresses and one of the ex-bartenders, and it's nice to see their pictures, some have been gone for a year or more).

It has a calendar, that's only marginally attended to. It's not unusual to find the place closed with no information on the calendar.

It has a forum section that some, but not nearly enough, of the girls use. It's an incredible (safe) customer contact, advertising, scheduling opportunity that is rediculously under utilized.

Additionally, although the club has started listing the girls that are working at that time on a dry erase board inside the door, they're missing the opportunity to do the same thing on the website. It would cut way down on phone calls and probably increase business.

Separately, get voicemail. Include club hours, directions to the club, girls that are working, and other common questions. This just comes from watching the poor bartender trying to collect the cover, get drinks, and answer the phone at the same time. From what I've heard, most of the phone calls seem to be the same few questions over and over and dorks who think its fun to call a strip club and be an annoying moron.

most club websites have to be generally the same to get information across ( times the club is open, wheter it servers alchohol or not, pictures of the girls etc) include all this but in your own style. also if your club has certin promotions or specials on certin days of the week be sure to include that as well. silkexotic.com has a good site. i wish my old club would have had a website so i could see pictures of the girls that i used to work with or pictures of the club. well, good luck!!!

Haha maxine I always like the Northern's website too

Things I think make a good website in general:

    1. Clean design - don't need to fill every page with background pics and tons of text. It's distracting and makes it difficult for the reader to find what they're looking for. Also IMO there's something to be said for a site that is noticably lacking in flashy add-ins and unnecessary intros - most people's computers still may not read alot of program-heavy sites well and a big flash intro at the main entrance may be really fun for programmers but to the average reader it's just a nuisance.

    2. Intuitive layout - Organize everything into logical sections and put links to those sections in an easy to find location on EVERY page. Usually along the top or down one side.

    3. Good color choices - it may be helpful to look up what certain colors generally signal to readers. Marketers study this and use color to generate the desired response from their target audience. That said, the most important thing here would be to choose background / font colors that work well together and are easy to see/read. You don't want to make your readers strain their eyes - they'll leave the site.

    4. Post all the info your readers want or need and keep it up to date. This give the impression you're running a good business, know what you're doing, and generally makes the business more attractive to potential customers/workers.

    5. Links page - exchange links with other related sites to help generate traffic.

As far as content, I think a good club website has the following:

    1. FAQ page - business hours; bar type (no alcohol, BYO, beer/wine only, full bar); dance type (topless, nude, bikini - table/couch/private dances - vip or no, etc); pricing - entrance fees, basic dance prices (vip prices not necessary), drink price range; whether food is served and basic info on that (type of menu, kitchen/bufet hours); bachelor party info; any other club-specific info readers should know.

    2. Location page linked from main page - address, landmarks or cross-streets, directions, phone number, email if someone will be answering msgs.

    3. Dancer gallery - I think getting a good photographer (not the manager or owner but a REAL photographer whether amateur or pro) to take some nice pics of some of the girls who actually work there is best. People want to see some of the real dancers - get someone who can make them look their best to take pics.

    4. Daily/weekly specials. Some clubs also post a coupon for free/reduced cover or first drink to get people in the door, which can be printed off the site.

    5. If dancers have schedules, post a schedule page. Link the girl's name on the schedule to her pic page if she's in the gallery. If you have features, post the upcoming feature schedule and related promos as well.

    6. Club pics - get the photographer to take some nice pics of the stage/club/vip area.

    7. Employment info - audition policy, best times for dancers to call or come in, staff hiring info, etc.

    8. Keep the site complete and current! It looks better to have a simple site with working links and pics and current info than to have something fancy that isn't complete or doesn't work properly.

    9. Once the site is complete, be sure to go to your club's page on tuscl and stripclublist and update with your site url. Submit to search engines and links pages.

I'm glad this topic was brought up because let's face it, most SC websites are awful. For tips on designing a website in general, I suggest the following site:

    http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/

Whatever you do, don't put a stupid FLASH INTRO on it, (or at least give users a bypass link). In fact, if you're going to use Flash at all, make sure it has a constructive purpose. People are coming to the website for information, not to check out the web designer's mastery of Dreamweaver MX.

Galleries are nice, but there's usually a high turnover rate in these clubs, so it may be more a pain than it's worth. Also some gals may not want their pics up there. Whatever you do, don't hire models who are not dancers at your club to pose on your website. I'd rather have a dancer's schedule up there, but again whether that's posted or not should be at her discretion.

Also, a number of users are still on dial-up, so if you have to use a lot of graphics (and Flash again), make a HTML only version for slow connections. A lot of your users are just are looking for information anyways. The site should stress the amenities at your club (drinks, cigars, VIP area, etc.)

Always have a menu bar on every page. I can't stress that enough.

    Here are some good examples:

My club advertises the shit out of daily specials. Our website sucks. Once you're on the first page, you really don't know where to click to go for further information. Since all the specials are on the main page I find many customers specifically coming in for the specials. Great for you, bad for me. "I'm just here for the steak." ... "I'm just here for the two for one beers between 6-7" ... "My friend dragged me in. I only do two for ones and since today isn't that day, I won't be buying dances." I know I'm being selfish, but it irritates the shit out of me. Especially when I've approached all of the 30 guys in the club, and they all say the same thing. My advice? Advertise the shit out of the girls! Specials are cool and all, but really, if you really only want to run specials on Bud Light, open a real bar. Put pictures of girls on your site, with the girl's name and a tentative schedule. If you don't have schedules, just ask the girl to commit to one day.
Sorry about the rant. I'm only at my club for a little while longer. Since I'm close to being done with it all I'm realizing how much my owners and managers give a shit less if I walk out with money, only if the alcohol sales are where they're supposed to be. If you have the hottest girls in town and advertise it, alcohol and everything else will boom too.

Having an online shop might be worth looking into. Shirts, hats, souvenirs, or maybe dancer-worn or related items customers may want to buy. It doesn't even really have to be something from the dancer, you could just claim it is and no one would be the wiser. Just a way to generate some $ without too much work involved.

Yes, forget the flash. Web designers say the average surfer give the webpage something like 30 seconds to load, after trying to check out the sites suggested i reckon it's closer to about 8 (I'm impatient, and don't really care if I see the site or not) Not everyone has a new computer or fast dial up speeds. Don't forget to resize the information on photo's to reduce download time or use thumbnails that click to a larger image (I hate waiting for a photo, especially when it's not worth the wait)
Also simple navigation so you know where you are and can get back to a good page. If I get lost in a website I usually click off and never return.
The internet is like fast food for the brain. Its supposed to be quick and easy.
Also webdesigners forget thier own advise and do the slow loading fancy shit "cos they can" so make sure you stress you want fast and simple!

Oh, so many great ideas have been expressed. The cardinal sin of any website is to waste the visitor's time. Outdated information, confusing navigation, ambiguously named sections, dead links, "under construction" pages, long load times. You've heard it here from all the people posting. Those are cardinal sins. You're designing the site to be functional, informational and maybe a bit entertaining for the average customer, so think about the experience it's going to give them.

Before official launch, get several people (selected employees, customers, friends, Romans, etc.) to test drive it and give you comments. Heck, post a link here and we'll give you feedback. Then adjust accordingly. If you can, watch over their shoulder as some of them navigate it. You'll learn what they find confusing and hard to find. The link that you thought was clearly labeled may mean nothing of the sort to the average user.

As has been stated, keep it up to date after it's launched. It's not only a lost advertising opportunity but also embarassing to your business image if the home page is advertising a promotion from three months ago. The webmaster or anyone with the appropriate knowledge should be looking it over on a regular basis in order to spot outdated material hiding in the nooks and crannies. That person should routinely browse through the entire site as if they were seeing it for the first time. "Oops, Trixie's picture is still up there in the photo gallery when she left two months ago. Better get to that right away."

    Good luck.

    -Ev

Make sure it has a PANIC BUTTON (a button they can click if the wife or boss comes into the room that takes them to ESPN.com or something).
