    Default Mononucleosis...?

I think I have mono.....I had a "stomach flu" recently that I posted about in BB, but now my neck lymph nodes are swollen again. I have other mild symptoms...my friend had a serious bout with mono in college and I know someone with acute mono (Epstein-Barr.)
I will go to the doctor but wanted to ask for info here because having mono is different for everyone...it might be a minor thing or it might last for months....this stinks since I had a physical for a job planned soon and I might have to postpone it....
(PS It's called the "kissing disease", but it can be spread in other ways. Common in schools.)

You could also be HIV positive. Have you been tested? Don't mean to scare you but.....

It might not be mono, there are a number of things that can cause your lymph nodes to swell, mono being one of them. It's important to get tested quickly, like you said, mono is called the, "kissing disease" but there are lots of other ways to spread it. However, I think it is pretty contagious at first, you don't want to share the misery. I've never had it myself, but have known some people (adults and kids) that have. While some of the symptoms lasted six weeks or so, I'm prety sure that they were not contagious for that entire time. Hope you feel better.

I had mono when I was 12. It was going around my school. From what I recall, I was out of school for 3 or 4 weeks. It hurt like hell to swallow and I remember feeling tired all the time. Then you feel better, but you're still not allowed to go out and "play."

My test initially came back negative for mono (damn Naval Hospital) so they gave me amoxicillan. Then I broke out in a spotty rash from my head down my torso. Then they tested me for mono again which came back positive.

For some reason I'm thinking that once you have mono you don't get it again. Or is it that you are more likely to get it? I'm not sure but it was 20 years ago that I had it and I've not had it since. *knock on wood*

Even though you feel better you're still supposed to take it easy, something to do with your spleen I believe.

    I hope you feel better.

i had it when i was little as well. i was told i was not allowed to run because my spleen could burst if i fell because it was more sensitive or something. i do not remember the pain i felt or anything though, but i was out of school for a few weeks and had to rest.

Thanks for the info and well-wishes. I am going to get tested for HIV and mono, since I can't have this screw up my job prospects......it's hard for me to guess since I travel so much I get sick frequently from being in different places....it could be something I just picked up and has been dormant.......
I won't be kissing anyone soon. Heh.

It's easy to test for..... just a quick monospot test.
