    Default Your Stage Routine

So I have been practicing in front of the mirror today - for a WHILE. I sported my gorgeous new 6 inch stilettos, started with an outfit, and stripped down to a thong, dancing to Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares To You". I moved slowly, engaged in "eye contact" with the mirror (LOL), tried to make smooth transitions between moves, and always tried to be aware of all my movements.

But, I notice that I don't have a "routine" whatsoever - every time I dance to the song, I do it differently. My movements are the same, but the order is different. And don't get me wrong, I KNOW variety is great and the same old routine can get boring quickly, but I want to have a routine down for my audition. I've never danced before, so I want to go up there and look like I know what I'm doing and that I'm confident in my movements - I just want to be prepared.

Do you girls have any advice for me? What's your onstage routine?

just go up there and do what feels natural. don't make a routine b/c then it will look scripted and boring. I had to go do an audition today and even though i have been dancing for 2 years i was still nervous and shaky. I had no idea what i was going to do on stage so i just let my body feel the music and had fun.

you don't have to look like you know what you are doing, they can teach you how to dance. At the club i just got hired at there are some girls that can't dance at all, but they don't seem to care. As long as you are having fun, that's all that matters.

    hope that helped...

dancing in front of a mirror is a great way to work up your confidence and practice moves, but there's no need to worry so much about your audition, just get up there, move around, take your clothes off and you'll look good. honestly i did TERRIBLE at my audition, forgot everything i had practiced, hung onto the pole for dear life. they hired me anyway and now i get lots of compliments on my dancing. its nothing special, but i look like i am having fun (sometimes) and people are suprised that i've just started. shows how much the audience really knows.

routine, schmoutine. the question i got most from my (ignorant) friends was "oh gosh, do you have a routine? can i see it?" which made me real nervous, because who knew what they were going to play anyway? turns out i didnt really need to worry about one, and they were wrong. with your determination, i bet you look great. get out there and go! good luck.

I don't see how a dancer could ever have a set routine of moves onstage as customers will come up to tip (hopefully) and interupt and change whatever your routine may have been.

Just do what is comfortable and flows well with the music.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, cigar in one hand, scotch in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

It's good if you vary your routine- if you do the same thing over and over, people will quit coming to your stage- the "Seen That" syndrome. It would be like wearing the same outfit for months.

Just relax. People are usually busy looking at your body before they get alll hung up on your choreography. I would advise trying to be "smooth" and sexy in your movements...the first week I danced I was advised about this.

Yeah, don't bother getting a routine down. Girls who do the "routine" are boring and look bored.

Next piece of advice is, find another song! That Sinead O'Connor song may be real sexy at home but it'll only cause sleepytime in the club. Need something more upbeat. Doesn't have to be anything too hard-hitting or fast, but definitely a better tempo. Most clubs won't even allow "Nothing Compares to You" to be played, EVER.

This is why everytime I see "Striptease" I get pissed off. It was on the other night I and I flipped out.

    -The shoes Demi wore...FORGET IT.

-The stiffness of her routine made me think I was in a morgue.

-Using her real first and last names?!?!?!?!? COME ON!!!

-Bringing her daughter to the club and someone actually allowing her in?

Ok, sorry about the rant. I dont' use a routine,. I just listen to the music and go with it. I tend to use mid-tempo (Mariah-It's Like That) to slow (Sadeness by Enigma). Either way, I move kinda slow-not molasses in Vermont in the winter slow, but slow and sexy.

I also tend to walk around naked or topless when I can. It makes me more comfortable with my body and believe it or not, it can show on stage. You can always tell the ladies that aren't confident and the ones that are. Once you forget about taking it off and can just do it, that's when you'll be "there".

Minah, I thought the same thing about Striptease. They also moved a lot faster than most girls in clubs these days. I don't remember the last time I saw a dancer move that fast in a real club.

Serendipity, just pick music you like and enjoy dancing to. It doesn't have to be a sexy/sensual song. It can just have a good beat. I'm sure you have other songs you like.

What I did when I first started was watch the girls for a looong time before my 1st night. Then I just mimicked their moves....afterwhile I got better moves of my own.

Hey! I agree with the other girls. Dont set up a routine. Now, you can use certian parts of songs to do certain pole tricks but other than that always try something different. As for music, I started out with the music i liked, which is hip hop, but after time went by, I realized that i made more money dancing to rock. You just have to get comfprtable with yourself. Something else, to give you a variety, is to ask what ever customer you are sitting with what he feels like hearing. Chances are if he likes the song, he will tip you more. Just make sure it is a common song....lol dont try to dance to songs that arent well known. ask the DJ and he should be able to help you deicde. Some of my fav songs include

Nickleback: Figured you out, feelin way to damn good
Lincon park: crawling, in the end
Techno is really good, no matter what it is
    Nine inch Nails:closer
Most Metallica songs are well known and have a good pace.

    Hope this helps!!

The Cure, The Cure, The Cure.

They're totally some of my favorite music to dance to. Lullaby is a great song. If your club has two-song-sets like mine, pair it with Fascination Street or Burn.

Another one of my favorite sets lately is one I had the DJ put onto the computer just for me -- The Get Up Kids, Grunge Pig and Walking On A Wire.
