2K a month sounds like an awful deal, especially with only 1-2 days off! And I would be suspicious about what the private dancing entailed.

I've heard some very scarey stories about dancing in China.I'd love to travel to other countries but it seems kinda risky.I'd check out how the laws are pertaining to prostituion before going outside the US.Good luck if you decide to go.Let us know if you like it.

Okay. I am not a big fan of mindless terror that borders on agorophobia. But I've personally never met, or even corresponded with anyone who has danced in China proper and unless you find someone I would be skeptical. I have met people who have travelled to China and they have told me that rule of law does prevail, despite some rumors to the contrary. As long as you use some common sense like A) do not ever give up your passport. They don't need it, shouldn't have it and if they need someway of assuring that you finish your contract - tough. They may hold your return ticket (if, and only if, they bought it for you). You get nothing from them but their word, your work should be sufficient. B) same as you wouldn't go to a new club without cabfare home, the first time you go anywhere, be prepared to leave. That means be able to buy a ticket home. C) ask about utility fees or whatever in the accomodation. It is usually not high, but I hate it when they say it is free and then charge you $30.00 a week. It's just impolite. And D) really consider that the money sucks. Even if everything goes as planned and you go for two months and don't buy so much as a meal you come home with $4,000 (and 1 day off a month? Are they mad?). That is a lousy salary for any job. And finally note that it is a party planner, not a club owner or agent. This makes me raise my eyebrows skeptically. Private dances in a private party? Hmm. And this party is going on for three months? Hmm.

Also, find out where you would be and whether or not there is an American consulate in the city in the event that you do need it.

I can make $2K here in 4-5 days, often less. No point.

Prostitution is rampant in China. The Hard Rock cafe in Beijing is a pick up spot at night and tour guides offer extras and FS there.

As far as I know, western style strip clubs are non existant in China. There are hostess bars where OTC is encouraged.

Never danced in China, but I wouldn't trust this offer at all! Atrocious spelling, horrible deal [roughly $68 a day] and very little other information. Quite unprofessional.

I lived in China for 1 year and travelled around alone all over. I was a pro dancer/singer in cabaret, and the idea of anyone "go go " dancing out there is scarey. these are my reasons as to why :-

The accomodations will be rather 3rd world, as they can't afford to put you up in a nice hotel - but that's the least worrying issue.

People in China do not have the same wealth, and what may seem like a good tip to you - once converted from their currency to yours - won't add up to much. Also, this is very new to China, and the men are very timid in nature, unlike other asian countries...and may even be quite shy and so it may take some time before they get accustomed to the way of doing things western style in this kinda environment,

MOST IMPORTANT? ok...i don't wanna sound mean, but - i can tell you, having done business both alone and with a company, in China, a contract is worth the paper it's writen on. They will in most cases, list a bunch of promises that won't happen. You can't do anything about this either. What are you gonna do - sue them? in China? no.

Do they offer a work visa? if they tell you you'll get it in Hong Kong or once you arrive in China, that's a lie. They did that to us. Unless you are given a work visa in your passport before you leave, then you are going out there on an illegal basis on a tourist status, and if the shit did hit the fan and you were either caught or needed rescue....you would be in a lot of trouble.

Even if you are legal, with all the papers, that still doesn't change the fact that the contract will not necessarilly be honored, and believe me, if you think you can just call the police and they'll come and get you - first of all, it's more likely they won't speak english, and second of all, it's very likely they will contact the club and inform them of your report - and they won't prosecute the co. as they are probably paying off the police, and if they're not, and you report them - they will probably start to pay off the police....who are famous for dealing with things this way. unless you have a U.S consulate near you ( which you'll only find in major cities - and only a few) then this is a major risk. REGARDLESS OF WHO IS WORKING WITH THEM, AMERICAN OR OTHERWISE...YOU COULD DISSAPEAR!

You can do one thing though - contact the US consulate in China, give them all the details of this company, email them the add/whatever correspondance you get from them. If they do not already know anything about these people, they will find out for you.

Believe me there are better ways to go travelling when it comes to countries like this. Most Asian countries, especially India, should be avoided. you'd be better off earning money in the US and then just flying yourself there on a vacation.

Do let us know what you end up finding out -

    Take care,

    Gerry,
