    Default Eyeshadow

I hardly ever wear makeup and I am a total doofus... I usually just wear powder and lip gloss, with sometimes blush and mascara. Obviously for the club I'm going to need more. I got some lip liner that looks good under the gloss, and I think my eyes are my best facial feature, so I really want to make them pop. What colors should I be looking for and how do you apply multiple colors without looking like a drag queen?

And how do you do that gorgeous cat-eye thing? Whenever I try it I look like someone punched me out. Not QUITE the look I'm going for!

I know brown and pink look good with blue eyes, but what else? And can I wear brown eyeshadow with black clothes? Clothes-wise, I wear soft colors and pastels a lot, with the occasional red or bright blue if I'm feeling bolder. I have really fair skin with freckles and blue undertones, if that helps. That's me in the avatar.

Thanks in advance for any help!

With your pale skin and i'm guessing if you have blue eyes go for the rose color maybe pale pink or peach color around your eyes -- get one that is shimmery and go light on the mascara also (use an eyelash curler as well), light pink blush and nude gloss -- get some body shimmer as well, i think you can get some in body lotion.
If you are talking about putting eyeliner under your eyes with the "cat eye" theme, i'd suggest you try thin lines ontop of your eye lids with a brown eyeliner and it extend it a bit about the edges.

if that doesn't make sense then sorry

That helps a lot, actually! Thanks. I hadn't thought of peach eyeliner but I bet that would be really pretty.

peachy colors look great with blue eyes. also another thing, the brushes you use make a big difference. instead of using the little sponge applicator that comes with the shadow, get a set of brushes. they don't have to be expensive. i like to use an angle brush to line underneath my eyes with brown eyeshadow, it will look pretty with your blue eyes. then when doing your lids, use a shading brush. i like to put a peachy color on the part closest to lashes, then a kinda shimmery brown in the crease, and a little neutral white or light color under the brow. make sure to blend them together! stripes don't look good lol.
best advice is practice!! or go to a makeup counter and ask them to help you out! good luck!

Hey, this is coming from a total makeup whore....have you thought of charcoal? Charcoal liner, smudged a bit and gone over lightly with matching eyeshadow is hott, with a shimmery white near your brows to widen the eye. Also don't forget the mascara!! Haha

Charcoal? No, new one on me! I've lined with very dark grey eyeshadow before and it looks good, but it also looks pretty gothy with my coloring. *I* like the goth thing, but it's not where I want to go with my stage persona. She's a lot sweeter than me.

Thanks everybody for the tips so far! I'm going out for peach eyeshadow and shimmery mascara later today and I'll give it a try tomorrow. Everybody at work is going to wonder what the hell I'm all made up for!

I watch two communities on LiveJournal for eyeshadow/makeupping.

    http://www.livejournal.com/community/eyeshadowsluts/

This one has all kinds of folks posting their looks. Everything from subtle to outrageous. Lots of inspirational stuff here.

    http://www.livejournal.com/community/makeuptutorials/

This one is moderated, and you might have to join it to see all of the tutorials, but its another good one to browse through....

Otherwise, I suggest going to a MAC or Sephora store, or a department store with good makeup counters, and try a makeover. A lot of those folks are experts.

The most important rule about eyeshadow application is that there are no rules.

There is no such thing as "best" colors for specific eye colors. Find some colors that you like and learn how to apply them to bring the most dramatic looks to your eyes. I love looking through the Sephora mailers since they have some really great eyeshadow application shots. While brown and pink are nice for blue eyes...violets and greens tend to make blues "pop".

You can also take a make-up application class/lesson from the folks at MAC.

I was just going to say the same as Venus, start at MAC for sure.
I have the same colouring as you, blonde, blue eyed and freckly with fair skin.
Right now i'm loving "Honesty" by mac eyeshadow, it's a warm brown colour.
Why don't you try doing a smokey eye with brown shades? The brown shadow contrast to blue eyes makes them pop, and you can still look sexy with a smokey eye and its less harsh than a black or grey based smokey eye.
A good (and EASY) smoky eye look that works for gals like us:
Use a shimmery coral/peach colour as your base (make it similiar to your skin colour)...apply it to your entire lid up to your eyebrows. Then, "contour" your eye with the brown eyeshadow (meaning find the crease of your eye and emphasize it with the shadow), then take a pearly colour and apply it just under your eyebrows on your brow bone. Blend, blend, blend! <-- Play around with this until you get the desired effect. Then, line your eyes with a dark chocolate liner and smudge it lots. A lot of girls make the mistake of lining the entire top and bottom part of their eyes which can make them look closed in (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!), so if that happens to you, only do the outer edges. Then finish off by lining the bottom inner part of your eyes with black liner (I recommend Smolder by MAC! lol...) and lots of mascara.
Don't get me wrong...there is lots of other good makeup out there besides MAC but in my experience, the staff is most knowlegeable and the products are all really good quality.

****To find MAC in your area go to their website at www.maccosmetics.com, I believe there is somewhere on there to find locations. I'm assuming you're in the states and it should be easy to find, they have it here in Canada!

You have to get GLEAM by mac. It's a beautiful peachy-shimmery color that is great under anything. I highly reccomend it. You andI have the same coloring and it's the one color I can not live without. GLEAM! Don't forget.

Mac pigments are great as well and bring some pop to the eyes . I went to school and I did a makeup lesson for my friend in school. She has blond hair and blue eyes but just a bit tanner than you. Here's a pic...I use all mac eyeshadows, with brown as a smokey look.

You can use the same eyeshadow and get diffrent results
    1)Powder-Soft & Subtle
    2) Wet your brush and dip it in the shadow- Intense & brighter
    3) Gel- Longer Lasting & A little in between the above

Just make sure to apply eyeshadow primer. It keeps the shadow from creasing. I think pink would look innocent & sexy on you.Just the more intense you get with one feature soften the others up (ie: charcoal eyes & clear glossed lips or rosy cheeks and a brown liner)

Omigod, I'm totally loving these links!

Anyway, I learned to do cat eyes by starting with a color just slightly darker than my shadow at work. That way, if I messed up it wasn't totally obvious but I at least had the chance to practice. Once I had it right, I bought some M.A.C. eye concealer for a base, darkened the corner shadow - voila!

My only "secret" is that a lighter color or whitish pigment (MAC, too) along the water line at the bottom outer corners of the eye can really help them pop. A MAC artist taught me that.
