Default Fever Blisters / Cold Sores

I take lysine every day to prevent them but when I'm really stressed or abuse my mouth I get them anyway. Thursday night I suffered a humiliating public dumping by a guy I was really into, and then on top of all that heartbreak I spent six hours last night making out with some guy. So now I have TWO cold sores and I know they'll look godawful by morning.

I've been applying Abreva like crazy so they're not very big, but they're there.

The sores themselves aren't so bad, but when they go after a couple of days, it takes forever for the skin to heal back up and I always have a flaming obnoxious red scab on my lip that lasts a couple of weeks. It's hideous and I can't go in and audition to dance with two of these. Anyone know how to get rid of them and heal faster??

Cover with makeup. Cold sores shouldn't stop you from getting hired, unless you're talking about auditioning at PEC or something

Ask your doc for a prescription for Zovirax. It is a topical cream that works wonders! The first time I feel that tingle, I start putting it on once every few hours. It stops the outbreak immediately. You can even put it on under lipstick and go to work.

Not to sound like a complete loser....but I carry it with me at all times! All it took was that one time I left it home. I had laid out by the pool all day, and when I was getting ready in the locker room, I could feel that tingle. By the time my shift was done, it had spread completely across my lower lip and I looked like I had gotten punched.

Even if you don't have a primary care physician, and doc can prescribe it for you. I've gotten it from my gyn and my dermatologist.

The one thing that works for me is, taking garlic capsules, Kyolic brand. You must take 1 a day. Eating garlic, even every day is not enough. Use to get 'em BAD, but now when I do, they are very tiny, barely noticable. Did you know lysine is most effective on an empty stomach? Also eating yogurt helps. When I do get one, I use Campho-Phenique, rubbing alcohol, tea tree oil. Aloe vera for the scabs & there is a Vit. E stick sold @ ulta, health stores, it's about 3 -4 $ & contains spf 15. try to always keep spf on lips

I can't take Zovirax. I used to, and it gave me two episodes which the doctor told me later were TIA's (mini-strokes). Apparently it does that to only a couple people out of every thousand, but I'm one of them. It was in pill form but I'm scared of the topical cream; when you've forgotten how to speak and can't remember your husband's name and have one arm uncontrollably flopping around, you don't want to chance a repeat occurrence!

I didn't know about garlic though. That's cool; I love garlic.

This is so annoying. I have a little one near the corner of my mouth, and a big cauliflower in the middle of my upper lip. Verrrrrrry sexy.

Is the zovirax like valtrex? I asked my dr for a script for the valtrex so I can have it around in case I need it..when i feel the tingle i take a pill or 2 and then i take 1 or 2 more 12 hours later. It has worked wonders for me!

I think Zovirax and Valtrex are the same drug. Its generic name, IIRC, is acyclovir (I might have misspelled it).

Try spraying with Colloidal Silver - a co-worker tried it and hers were gone / healed totally within a couple of days! It can also be used as a preventitive, just do a search for Colloidal Silver andcoldsoresand you should find info!
You also don't need to worry about Argyria when you use it topically.
