Default StripperFest: Black Rock City 2005 (Burning Man)?

I know most years a solid group of members head out to the Black Rock Desert for Burning Man. I couldn't find a thread for this year though. I know of one member going this year and another teaches dancing lessons, but is anyone else making the trip?

I figured it'd be fun to set a time to meet up since we'd be out there anyways.
We all imagine ourselves the agents of our destiny, capable of determining our own fate. But have we truly any choice in when we rise, or when we fall, or does a force larger than ourselves bid us our direction. Is it evolution that takes us by the hand, does Science point our way, or is it God who intervenes keeping us safe.

So much struggle for meaning, for purpose. And in the end, we find it only in each other. Our shared experience of the fantastic. And the mundane. The simple human need to find a kindred, to connect. And to know in our hearts... that we are not alone.

It's located near lovely Gerlach, Nevada, about 120 miles north of Reno, literally out in the middle of nowhere.

    From the Burning Man folk:

Trying to explain what Burning Man is to someone who has never been to the event is a bit like trying to explain what a particular color looks like to someone who is blind. In this section you will find the peripheral definitions of what the event is as a whole, but to truly understand this event, one must participate. For a brief yet eloquent overview of the entire event from the time of arrival to the time of exodus, please read "What is Burning Man?", an essay written by participant and one-time web team member, Molly Steenson.
For me it's about acting like a big kid (taking more toys this year), getting away from the commercial world (as well as one can), and bonding with my friends.

I'd go... There's so much information on that site! Could someone give me some cliff notes? What was that about dance lessons, Pryce?

EDIT: OOOOO! "Burn the Man" I get it! Awesome!

It seems interesting enough it is a place to try to let out your inner most expressions and thoughts ( without Drugs ) . You kind of let go of your normal everyday self , never have been but it could be a place that I may find one day who knows . I dont know maybe I am wrong can anyone give some insight ?

If you're not intending to go already, it would be hard to get ready in time now - especially for first-timers. It's best to find people you know who have been before and go with them. That's not to say you can't do it alone, but you'll have to read a LOT. The survival guide covers the biggies. Planning what you need, financing, packing, and traveling is most of it. Bella, what kind of info are you looking for?

CuriousJ, you are correct. Drugs do show up - you'll notice rollie-kids out at night and lazy smokers during the day. But drugs aren't the main attraction. The news media likes to portray it as a drugged pagan orgy. Not true.

As for the dance lessons, we had a member here who provided them one year. I'm not sure if she is returning, but I believe her camp is. Here is a break down of stripping related events (there are more):

Pole Dancing Classes (Beginners to Advanced)
    Cardio Strip Lessons
    Pole Dance Revolution Competition
    Beginner's Belly Dancing
    Advanced Pole Dancing Workshop
    Advanced Tribal Belly Dance Class
    Women's Beginning Pole Dance Workshop
We all imagine ourselves the agents of our destiny, capable of determining our own fate. But have we truly any choice in when we rise, or when we fall, or does a force larger than ourselves bid us our direction. Is it evolution that takes us by the hand, does Science point our way, or is it God who intervenes keeping us safe.

I had no idea at the complexity of the whole concept here - it grabs all your creative desires but you are participating with the whole group of visitors as a whole or not ! The camps ,villages , communities . I really dont know how you would prepare lol .. I would say read the manual go the first time maybe with some previous BM participant or by yourself . It sounds like you are going to be in awe the first time anyway then you can better devise a plan for your next visit - well ? Its crazy in a really neat way - it is hard to explain ..

Yeah, I can be there in about 4 hours.

Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!"

Sorry I didn't post with more time. It's really much more than a StripperFest - which is why I didn't try to plan it out. There are many who would want to attend a SF, but not Burning Man and vice versa. I was mainly trying to see who was already planning to attend so we could meet up and say hi.

At this time I'm planning to attend next year and there does seem to be quite an interest...I'll post earlier next year and try to actually coordinate something out there. We could have an official camp "Stripper" or "StripperWeb".

I'll be keeping an eye out Mag!
