The only cities that I know require liscenses are: Phoenix, Houston, and Las Vegas.

Dont forget San Diego
you live like an ivy vine
you can only survive by clinging onto trees
that's your flaw

It varies from county/ city limits- one downtown club might require it, another outside of the limits, no. Fresno, CA demands a business license, not that you'd want to work there.
Just to have for tax purposes, better get licensed. Cops will write you a ticket for anything these days. Hungry county coffers!

Philadelphia requires business privilege liscences to work as an independant contractor. 225 dollars i think it is right now.

Didnt Los Angeles used to? Still does? When I lived in Long Beach, a friend used to dance in LA. She said she had to have one there.

Marasmus ... "Ladies don't fart. They butt-laugh."
Marasmus says, "Oh no, that wasn't gas, it was merely a rectal chuckle."
Marek says, "A friend of mine got punched in the face by a dominatrix stripper about two weeks ago and I thought of you."

don't forget Atlanta and Toronto !
There's also a definitive difference between cities which require dancers to obtain a "general" independent contractor business license in exactly the same vein as street vendors, versus cities which specifically require an exotic dancing license. The former only creates a public record that a particular person is in business for themselves, while the latter creates a public record that a girl of particular name and address is working as a 'stripper'.
So what cities require exotic dancer licenses? Also, who has access to the list of girls possessing these licenses and how do they affect our chances of entering the "career world"?

Washington state also requires licenses.
Only in the Seattle area, I think.
Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

Lake City does, just outside of the Seattle city limits... and I'm pretty sure a friend from Spokane told me that they need a license over there, but I am not sure if that's true.Originally Posted by Paris

Atlanta and Toronto are 'dancer's licenses' as well as Vegas, Houston and lots of other cities. These 'dancer's licenses' are granted by local cops or city/county officials after a criminal record and background check of the applicant. They create an official public record of the fact that a girl of the following name, age, address, SS# etc. is licensed to work as an exotic dancer. Since this is a public record, it is basically available to anyone who asks to see it ... ex-husbands, private investigators, potential 'straight job' employers, determined stalkers ...
Tennessee doesn't require licensing as of yet. The Supreme Court did rule however that if we ever did require them, that it would be unconstitutional for the information (that you were an entertainer or even worked in an adult entertainment establishment) to show up on any background check ~ saving you from discrimination in any way...

Being a 'public record' means exactly that ... a gov't held record which is available to the public for inspection. Unless there is some specific provision in the local dancers' licensing law which restricts disclosure to 'authorized' persons (meaning cops, courts, private detectives, prospective employers), anybody who wants to walk into the city hall / county office where the licensing records are kept can ask to see them. Sometimes the city / county will charge a small fee for clerical services to get/find/copy the license records. And even in jurisdictions which might balk at simply showing a non-'authorized' person dancer's license records, a determined person can file a Freedom of Information Act request and the info will have to be released. When you say “public record” does that mean anyone of the public can obtain such information? The main thing which serves as limited protection for licensed dancers is that these are almost always 'local' records, and will not be entered into statewide databases which are accessible for automatic searches. Thus in order to find out that a particular girl holds a dancers' license, whoever is asking would need to know which specific city / county licensing authorities to check with. However, if a particular girl lives in the same city in which she holds a dancer's license, it's pretty certain that angry ex's, family courts, prospective straight employers, even determined stalkers, will know exactly where to go looking for her dancer's license info.

Technically thou, wouldn’t a company require legal permission from you to-do a legit background check?
What is required when your crossing the boarders? do u need visas too?
And when i got licenced here it cost me about $280 after all was said and done.Originally Posted by noelle

Please don't start with spelling issues now - it'll never stop. Besides, it's considered nonhelpful and disruptive.
The Brits, Canadians, and probably Aussies and Kiwis spell it "licencing," anyway.
A friend of mine works in Kansas City and has to have a license.
need one in hawaii - only $20 tho and no background check or anything like that...
