Default The Sleeping With Long Hair Blues

I didnt find anything via a forum search on this, so I apologize if it has been done.

I have thin, long hair... mid-back length basically. It tries to kill me when I sleep so I usually pull it back into a loose ponytail with a soft scrunchie like this one. Even with something that soft, my hair breaks a lot during the night. I wake up looking like a bottle brush. Woe! Angst! Tips? Hairnet maybe? How hard are those to sleep in? My poor hair! It took me years to get it from this style cut (yes, I know that isnt me) to where I am now, I'd hate to ruin it!

I put mine back into two braids behind my ears...so I can sleep on my back or sides without it bugging me.

my hair gets soooooooooo tangled in the middle ofthe night-- if its in a braid, it tangles, if its in a pony tail, it breaks and tangles, when the scrunchie falls out... my hair is halfway down my back as well-- i have no advice, but lemme know if you find an answer!!!!

My hair is down to my upper-to-mid back and thick, but I also have this problem. I usually wake up being choked to death by it. Sometimes, I deep-condition it and put it into a very loose bun at the very top of my head before bed. When I wake up, I take it out and my hair is soft, full of body (slightly wavy) and not snagged at all. I use similar scrunchies to Paige, with a bobby pin to hold it together better (so I don't have the scrunchy on too tight). If you don't want wavy-ness try it with 100% dry hair. Usually works for me.

Yep, yep, yep! This is what I do, as well. I also have a soft pillow case...satin. I put a spray in conditioner (very light mist) just before I braid my hair. I braid my hair very loosely and it works like a charm.

I swear by my wooden hair sticks, altho, if my hair is very clean, they can slide out. I put it on top of my head in a bun, & secure it w/the sticks. Sometimes I put a bandana around my head, & stuff the hair in it.

My satin pillowcase is probably the best thing I ever did for my hair. I sleep with my hair in a loose ponytail on top of my head. It's just past my bra strap and chokes me if I don't.

Huh. I'm the anomaly, I guess...I have long, straight, fine hair (but a TON of it) down to the top of my butt and I sleep with it loose. No problems whatsoever, run a brush through it in the AM and I'm done.

Well with hair down to my ass, it is a MUST to always use satin pilow cases. Also 1 braid that is very LOOSE! I have slept this way for shit most of my life. When you turn over toss the braid away from you....After having long hair all my life, i am very aware of my hair when i sleep.

I have no problems with tangles when i wake up. Bu then also everyone sleeps differently...If you are a toss and turn kinda person all night....Knots will happen.

I have waist length hair, but I just roll it up in a scrunchie when I sleep, too. Just make sure it's nothing too tight or you'll end up with a lot of break-age the next morning. If it's really frizzy one day, that biosilk therapy spray is the most amazing stuff I've ever come across! Spray it LIGHTLY over your dry hair, and brush. I also use biosilks shine serum and mix a few drops in my conditioner. My hair's never looked better!

I have long straight hair and I don't have a problem with sleeping but I do have a problem with pieces of my hair falling out all over the place.

In one sweeping arm motion I throw my hair up and behind me as I go to lie down. I let it dangle over the ned of the bed and onto the floor. Having my hair like that allows me to move around abit in my sleep without constantly having to rearrange my hair, plus if anyone else is in the bed it doesn't get in their way.

Paige, why don't you wrap your hair. Start with a horizontal part in the crown area and then wrap from behind the ear, down the nape, around the other ear, then back to the front? Take some banana clips and hold it down, or wear a scarf.

Silk Pillowcases! My hair is about hip level and very fine. I have silk sheets and a silk pillow case and it really helps the tangles. Also when you comb your hair(yes i said comb) use a no more tangles and start from the bottom. This works wonders in terms of stopping breakage

im not sure if there's much of a difference but try sleping on a silk pillow case...also maybe try a leave-in night conditioner...it might help keep moisture and stuff in your hair and prevent breaking...i think pantene pro-v makes one

My hair just brushes th top of my ass crack and I just toss it up toward the top of the bed, over my head when I go to bed. That helps keep it from wrapping around my neck and avoids all the pulling/breaking. I can't stand sleeping with my hair tied up in any way.

I, too, do the over-the-head toss...I've never had a problem with tangles this way! When I was younger I put it into two braids behind my ears, but the overhead sweep is soooo much more comfy in my opinion.

I have the same problem. I solved it by buying a "slumber cap"...it's a satiny feeling, shower-cap type thing for sleep...very comfortable to sleep in (I'm really picky/sensitive too, but I didn't have any trouble) ...cheap too. It was 4 dollars at the local K-Mart...I know Sally's has versions too
