Default Tortured nails, what to do?

I have really weak nails, and am a freak about the solar and acrylic nails. I ge tthem super short and french so they look real and natural. Customers always notice and compliment me on my nails, saying I take care of myself, and I do. but when iI take these off to let my real nails breathe, my natural nails are hideous. The damage the fake ones do is awful, the surface is bumpy and the tops are all uneven and my fingers hurt. I know if I keep them off for like a month or two I can get them looking healthy again, but they would never be as pretty as the fakes, b/c they are stupid and break. I want to let them heal , but im worried it will cost me dances. That sound insane when im writing it but i know its true, quality customers like well manicured girls. What to do? and does anyone else have this problem? Im a little obsessive about it.

i hear ya girl... i have the same exact problem. i have short brittle nails that don't grow at all naturally. so i am a nail addict too. i used to get acrylic nails (the damage was awful) and switched to LCN gels thinking the problem would get better. what do you know i have the same problem. when i had them taken off i cried the pain was horrible. my real nails were breaking and bending. i had to make them stop, even though there is still some gel stuck on them still. they are literally paper thin. i have had them off for about a week now and i am dying to get them back on (they look like shit like this and i need them for work). i take a hair/nail supplement but they still look horrible. i have been trying to let them breathe.. but i don't know how much longer i can go on like this. i have no solutions to share with you... but if anyone can offer you a better idea.. let me know. good luck.

take vitamin e, megadoses, and eat GOBS of gelatin. animal gelatin works much better than pectin. and see your doc- you might have an infection that makes them so brittle.

Im sure there is no infection, and brittleness would be caused by lack of viatims. Which isn't my case, anyways. My nails have been like this since i was young and the fakes have made it worse. I want to leave them off for awhile, maybe I will try this week and see if earnings go down at all.

Prenatal vitamins are great for your nails. They're loaded with tons of calcium and vitamins that make your nails grow really strong and healthy. I used to take them and everyone thought I had acrylic tips but they were completely natural!

I was getting my nails done too (acrylics/gels) for many years. My nails are very weak as well. While I was still dancing I just couldn't take it and took them off to give my nails a break. I let them rest a few days, and started using Revivanail. You can use it as a base and top coat. I used that and a sheer pink polish for 2 months. My real nails grew back and damage was gone. It didn't affect my earnings without them for those 2 months. I think I was self conscious about it the most. I just kept focus away from my nails. I got over the feeling after a while. I don't dance anymore but I was missing the acrylics, so I tried some pre-fab nails you buy the drug store. After trial and error, the Nailene glue on nails are awesome. (The ones that already have the glue on the nail are not as good). Been using them for months now and they don't do the damage acrylics or gels did. I can type, do dishes, clean, whatever and they last about 2 weeks! Love em! I get the french manicure ones. So glad I gave them a try. And they are cheap, $5-$6 every 2 weeks. Cheaper than going and getting them done.

No matter how strong someone's nails are naturally, if they put the fakes on, their nails will go to shit.

The only way you can combat this is by not wearing fakes at all. The nail cannot breathe at all with the glue and all the other stuff that is in the fake nails. I took off the fakes last March (a year ago March) and have been doing manicures every week...I put vitamin E oil onto my cuticles every night and massage that into my nails and cuticles with a soft toothbrush. I put vitamin E lotion on my hands and then wear the gloves to bed so my hands get warm and the skin absorbs the lotion and oils more easily.

My nails looked beautiful and were very strong. They don't look that way now, but only because I am in the middle of a full re-model and so they're broken and all...but when we're done...

Plus, fake nails hide a buncha dirt and bacteria and you're more likely to transfer that to your face and break out. Former, are you SERIOUS?! Glue on nails?! But, what do they look like????

Do you take them off yourself? That could be the problem. If you take them off correctly (which invloves time and care), then your own nails will be long and they can be manicured.

Yeah, I thought they would be crap too but I really like them and I get compliments on my manicure and I just laugh. They have a remover for them, it's basically a acetone based remover and you soak your finger in and the nails dissolve off. My nails underneath are in good shape and I get the bonus of the perfect nail look without all the work. This is an pic I just took, these have been on over a week already. (Never took a pic of my own hand before)

They may not work for everyone but I love em. They look like when I used to get acrylics with a french manicure. When I take them off every 2 weeks I let my nails breath for one day and put vitamin E on them to make sure they stay healthy. I use the natural length, not the real long ones.
I tried a few brands but these are by far the best. Nailene Real French or French Express: http://www.nailene.com/artificialnai...eal_french.asp

I personally hate fake nails & the look. Some look great & natural though. But anyway, don't put fakies on. You can get fungus.

Anyway, here's what you can do. Get some good supplements...I suggest you get the ones I bought bc they have tons of great ingredients for nail nutrient.
The pills are called Shen Min.
It has Biotin, Silica, Collagen, Patothenic Acid, Calcium, Vitamin C-D-B6, Zinc....& a shit load of other good stuff.

Get Sally's nail thickening nail polish too.

no i dont get fake toenails, so they arent damaged like my fingernails. I ve been wearing solar finger nails for like 6 months or longer, thus the problem. Thanks for all the suggestions, i think ill leave them off for awhile and use the vitamins and etc.

I wore acrylics for over 5 years, and my nails were DESTROYED !!!
I like the Nailene brand, but the Revlon brand, in my opinion, is even better. Be sure to get the "flexible" ones...they have some "give" to them, so they don't break as easily (not to mention as painfully) as acrylics.

I, too, do everything with mine on, and I am constantly getting compliments on my nails.

What I like best about these is that, the moment one comes loose, or looks a little worn, I can replace it in seconds (literally), and I'm good to go !!!
