    That gave me goosebumps. The genre's not new, though. James McMurtry and his alt-country peers have been telling it like it is since the '80s. Lots of people, especially from the burbs and big cities say that country music sucks, but that's quite possibly because they've never heard country music. The stuff they play on country radio is pop music with a Pro Tools twang and sugar coated hooks, not country. Alt-country has a rock edge to it too, but it's way closer to the root forms of Americana (folk, traditional country, bluegrass) that speak to our truest cultural history and address politics with gloves off.

    If you hate the wrote flag waving on the country dial, check out the "other" country going in in Nashville...and Texas.
